Chapter 507: Chapter 5 Ling Shen_1
Wang Ba didn’t have time to think more.
His gaze was drawn to the scene in front of him.
Outside the Teleportation Array stood a huge stone platform with an air of antiquity.
On the platform stood nearly a hundred Cultivators. Except for those who were obviously wearing the uniform Daoist robes of the Wanxiang Sect, most of them differed in appearance and attire, suggesting that they were here to participate in the examination.
About half of these people were Foundation Establishment Competitors, the other half were Golden Core true people, and there was only that bald female Cultivator who had reached the Nascent Soul stage.
They all gathered respectfully around a young Cultivator in a solemn Daoist robe, as if being lectured.
Wang Ba could vaguely guess that this person must be the Vice Palace Master of Benevolence Hall, Luo Yuzhong, who had spoken earlier.
However, this was not what attracted Wang Ba’s attention.
Right in the center of the platform stood a Formation emitting dreamlike radiance. Within the Formation floated a giant Spirit Beast.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
“Ling Shen?”
Seeing the Spirit Beast that was as large as a house with its shell slightly open revealing a sticky body inside, Wang Ba’s eyes showed surprise.
Ling Shen was a sea Spirit Beast. Wang Ba had never seen one in the Chen State or Yan State, but he had read about it in books, which is why he recognised it at first glance.
He also recalled the characteristics of the Ling Shen Spirit Beast immediately.
‘Ling Shen, with a long lifespan, hard on the outside, soft on the inside. Otherwise indistinguishable from ordinary sea beasts when young, but once a hundred years old they grow to the size like a bucket and a Mirage Pearl forms within them. From then on they hold the power to charm, with a single thought they can induce a city of mortals to fall into a dream state…..After a thousand years, they grow even larger, with the ability to bewitch Cultivators… After that, every thousand years they face a tribulation. After nine tribulations and ten thousand years, they grow as large as a palace and even Nascent Soul cultivators cannot escape their illusionary control, and their souls are lost…..’
“Why is there a Ling Shen here?”
Wang Ba thought to himself, puzzled.
His gaze unconsciously moved towards Yao Wudi, only to see Yao Wudi avoid his gaze somewhat guiltily.
“Ahem…Excuse me… It’s just a coincidence, I didn’t expect that Luo Yuzhong has already become the Vice Palace Master of Benevolence Hall…”
Yao Wudi coughed dryly.
Wang Ba was left speechless by his words.
Oh well, perhaps it was just bad luck to run into it as soon as he arrived.
Seemingly having heard his own name, the skinny young Cultivator with a kind face on the higher area of the platform, surrounded by people, turned his gaze in the direction of the sound.
He glanced at Yao Wudi and paused slightly on Wang Ba standing next to him.
There was a hint of surprise and interest in his eyes.
Feeling the gaze, Yao Wudi quickly turned his head back. Seeing it was Luo Yuzhong, his eyes revealed a hint of warning.
Luo Yuzhong smiled slightly with ease and met Yao Wudi’s gaze.
Then he casually withdrew his gaze.
He continued his conversation with the Cultivators who had rushed from various Ghost Markets.
His attention, however, was mainly on the bald female cultivator recommended by the Ghost market in Yu State.
…
As time passed, the number of cultivators on the platform gradually increased.
The three Golden Core true individuals next to Tang Ji from Yan state had already blended with other Cultivators, trying to gather information.
Tang Ji himself was also chatting casually with Senior Brother Ma and others whom he had met before.
Even Yao Wudi, after seeing several familiar comrades, also left Wang Ba to renew old friendships.
This greatly reassured Wang Ba.
At least it seemed that not everyone in the sect was against his master. He still had some old friends.
His days in the Wanxiang Sect would not be entirely overrun with enemies.
After meeting several Foundation Establishment Competitors from different kingdoms, Wang Ba was also quickly integrated into the group. He was engrossed in conversation while waiting for the examination to start.
“Alas, I don’t know if I can successfully pass the examination… I heard it’s quite strict. Out of a hundred people, usually only about a dozen or twenty can pass.”
A Cultivator couldn’t help but sigh.
In his eyes, one could see both longing and an undeniable worry.
The Cultivator’s remark immediately gained the approval of the other Foundation Establishment Competitors around him.
Whether they genuinely found it challenging or were just pretending to agree.
Wang Ba didn’t think much of it.
Both Yao Wudi and Tang Ji were confident in him. He felt that as both were Nascent Soul peak stage cultivators, they would not be mistaken about it.
Of course, Wang Ba wouldn’t go against the current either.
He just went along nonchalantly.
However, at this time, a cold snort was heard.
“As cultivators, we should stay devoted and be competitive. Yet you guys are doubting yourselves before the examination even begins, how can you reach the end? In my opinion, you should give up now.”
Upon hearing this, the faces of the crowd immediately soured.
Immediately someone coughed:
“My dear friend, we are just expressing our feelings to ease our minds. Why do you need to belittle us?”
Wang Ba, however, followed the voice and saw a somewhat familiar-looking young Cultivator who had a bit of youthful flavor standing not far away, shaking his head repeatedly.
“It’s the disciple of Martial Uncle Qi from earlier…”
Wang Ba recognized the person in one glance.
The man sneered, “Did I belittle you? Wasn’t it you who was belittling yourselves just now?”
“You! You are no better than us, also a Foundation Establishment Competitor, what do you have to be arrogant about!”
A Cultivator protested angrily.
“No, even if I am arrogant, it has nothing to do with my Cultivation Base, unlike you. When your cultivation base is high, you are arrogant. When it’s low, you feel inferior. Although you are cultivators, you are merely slaves to your cultivation.”
