Chapter 426 Wolf Pack
"Little brother, you must come back safely!"
Victor grabbed Chen Yu's hand and shook it continuously while handing over a small wooden token.
Chen Yu couldn't help but frown, disliking the melodramatic farewell.
"Sir, you should keep this kind of protection charm for yourself," he said.
Victor was displeased, "This is not just any protection charm, but a very rare kind of wood. Everyone who has come back alive from the Augustus Divine Mountain did so because they had a charm made of this wood."
Interest sparked in Chen Yu, and he said no more, simply pocketing the small token.
"Old man, just wait here for my news," he assured.
After exchanging a few comforting words, Chen Yu got into a car with Jin Lingsu.
The two of them drove eastward, planning to cross the Caucasus Mountains and enter Augustus Divine Mountain directly.

"You've already got so much treasure in Mutuo Ancient City, why are you still following me? Augustus Divine Mountain is not a place for treasure hunting," Chen Yu said.
Jin Lingsu leaned on the passenger seat, playing with two pieces of colorful desert stones she had cut open.
"That is Augustus Divine Mountain, after all. How can the Lakato Family's stronghold not have treasure, and besides, there are also the treasures of the old man of the mountain in legend," she argued.
Chen Yu shook his head helplessly.
The old man of the mountain had indeed amassed an extremely hefty fortune in his heyday roaming the Western Regions.
But hardly any of it was found during the time at Xu Liewu Fort, proving that the cunning old man must have hidden his treasure somewhere.
In fact, Chen Yu understood that although Jin Lingsu spoke of caring about the treasure, she was truly concerned about his safety.
The two had been through so many adventures together that they shared a bond thicker than blood.
Moreover, Chen Yu had saved Jin Lingsu's life more than once.
Along the way, the two chatted on and off, not realizing how much time had passed until the cold wind outside the windows made them shiver.
Jin Lingsu hurriedly took out a prepared coat and threw one to Chen Yu.
Just a bit further, and they would reach the Caucasus Mountains, a place of extreme altitude and frighteningly low temperatures.
Many had tried to drive across this terrain but ended up stopping mid-way.
As the light faded, they parked the car on an open stretch of land and set up their tent against the mountainside.
Chen Yu shivered, sprinkling the alcohol from the car over the firewood.
[Alert: danger is approaching]
Chen Yu was immediately on alert, "Be careful!"
Jin Lingsu was startled; in this icy and snowy environment, her perceptive abilities were at their lowest.
But since Chen Yu had spoken up, it meant there was definitely danger nearby.
He tossed aside the firewood that he had collected, and smoothly pulled out a spike.
Before long, a large pack of wolves appeared not too far away.
Jin Lingsu gasped, seeing such a large wolf pack for the first time, the alpha wolf in the lead looking unusually robust.
It had a terrifying scar over one eye, presumably inflicted by a hunter when it was very young.
Its thick silver fur shone brilliantly under the moonlight.
Chen Yu took a deep breath and discreetly drew his short knife.
Just as they braced for combat, a shout came abruptly from not far away as two burly men, wrapped up tightly, approached with hearty laughter.
"Haha, these two guys are actually afraid of the wolf pack!"
"We made a bet just now. If they're afraid, that woman is mine."
Chen Yu couldn't help but frown as a flood of data appeared in his mind.
The wolf pack in front of them was plainly raised by these two men, who had committed who knows how many misdeeds in these woods with the help of the wolves.
And now they were even betting on him and Jin Lingsu.
The two men, brandishing their weapons, began to slowly close in with the wolf pack under their control.
"Kid, judging by the state of your car, you must have loaded it with lots of good stuff, just unload it and hand it over to us. And this woman, we can take care of her for you. As for you, just jump off the cliff."
Chen Yu seemed to hear a joke, chuckled twice, and then prepared to deal with these two goons.
Just as he was about to make a move, Jin Lingsu's figure flashed and in the blink of an eye, she was riding on a man's neck, her spike viciously stabbing down.
The man didn't even let out a scream before he became a corpse.
The remaining guy was scared out of his wits; he hadn't expected Jin Lingsu to be so quick.
Before he could react, Chen Yu approached him, pressed a spot on his forehead, and the blue-white glow of the electric current produced stunned him into unconsciousness.
The surrounding wolf pack, seeing their owners incapacitated, began to crowd around.
Jin Lingsu clenched her teeth, crouched halfway, ready to fight to the death.
Chen Yu, however, walked over to her nonchalantly.
"Don't worry, they're just beasts. Scare them off and it will do!"
He then took a horn from the car, played the sound of a strange bear, and threw it aside.
On hearing such a sound, the wolf pack dared not linger any longer and scattered in fright.
Only then did Jin Lingsu breathe a sigh of relief.
"I never thought that in the Caucasus Mountains there would actually be people driving a wolf pack to rob others."
Chen Yu too looked quite vexed; he hadn't anticipated this sort of thing either.
They made do and stayed there for the night, and the next morning they continued on their way.
The roads in the Caucasus Mountains were not easy to travel. It took a whole day before they finally crossed the mountains and arrived at a Gobi Desert.
According to the map, they only needed three hours to reach Mount Augustus.
Chen Yu was indeed tired; since leaving the Caucasus Mountains, he had been driving for twenty-five hours straight.
If he kept this up, he feared he would die from exhaustion.
Fortunately, it wasn't long before a small town appeared in front of them.
Chen Yu immediately perked up, parked the car at the entrance of the town, and ran in with Jin Lingsu.
The town seemed very prosperous, with dozens of vendors at the entrance alone, though their faces looked numb.
Chen Yu didn't bother with that, he went directly to a stall and ordered two glasses of pomegranate juice.
The town had a distinctly exotic charm, with rich fragrances drifting through the streets and alleys.
Dishes like jar-cooked meat and stewed lamb head were everywhere to be seen.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
Having driven for so long, Chen Yu was tired and simply ordered two lamb heads from a nearby stall.
After just one bite, several men dressed in white robes approached him.
"You're from out of town, aren't you? Do you know the rules here? Everyone who arrives must pay a hundred taels of gold for the freedom to move around the town. You've broken the rules, and now you can only die."
What do you think?
