Chapter 6
Forget it, given that her mind is not clear at the moment. This is not her true intention.
Lu Yu said in a low voice, "Drive."
The driver did not dare to delay and stepped on the gas pedal.
Gu Wan and Lu Yu arrived at almost the same time.
Seeing the two people getting out of different cars, the housekeeper couldn't help but break out in a cold sweat on his forehead. He had gained a deeper understanding of Madam's amnesia.
However, Gu Wan didn't think too much about it. After taking her precious puppy inside, she found that dinner was already prepared. The steaming hot dishes looked especially tempting. Gu Wan also didn't think too much, took off Beibei's leash, washed her hands, and walked towards the dining table.
Gu Wan didn't look back, so she didn't notice Lu Yu's momentary stunned expression after falling a few steps behind.
Now that she had lost her memory, of course she would not come over as usual, take his arm, and then walk into the house with him.
Lu Yu slowly exhaled.
After he went in, Lu Yu always felt that something seemed to be missing in the living room today, but he didn't think too much about it. Seeing that Gu Wan had already sat down, he took off his suit jacket and went straight to the dining table.
The housekeeper beside him wanted to speak but held back. He decided it would be better to keep quiet for now and talk to the master alone later.
After Gu Wan sat down, she soon discovered that among the dishes on the table, there were few that she liked to eat. Gu Wan thought that they should suit Lu Yu's taste more.
Indeed, Lu Yu didn't feel anything was wrong and started eating quickly.
Gu Wan couldn't help but sigh inwardly.
Seeing the chef still busy in the kitchen, Gu Wan thought for a while and finally spoke up, "Can you add another stir-fried shrimp?"
Stir-fried shrimp is a very common home-cooked dish. And the ingredients needed are all available in the fridge, so the chef didn't think to refuse.
Lu Yu's chopsticks stopped for a moment, seeming to glance at her.
Gu Wan smiled at him slightly, looking puzzled.
Lu Yu wouldn't have paid attention to this kind of thing before, but for some reason this time, he silently took note of the stir-fried shrimp dish.
After about a minute, the piping hot stir-fried shrimp was brought out.
Gu Wan's right wrist was broken so she could only use her left hand. She did have some training at the hospital over the past few days, but after all, it had only been a few days and she was far from dexterous.
Seeing Gu Wan's clumsy movements, Lu Yu couldn't help but chuckle.
But not long after, as he kept watching, he stopped laughing.
Gu Wan struggled by herself for nearly five minutes without thinking of asking him for help.
Similarly, Gu Wan also thought that the man had been sitting there watching for a full five minutes without offering to lend a hand, so he probably didn't want to help.
So before Lu Yu could say anything, Gu Wan had already asked the kitchen for a spoon.
Gu Wan eventually gave up using chopsticks. She had forgotten that although the shrimp were sweet and tender, they were so small that they were difficult to pick up.
So the two of them finished their meal in silence.
As the sky gradually darkened, just as Lu Yu was considering whether he should take some time to watch a movie with Gu Wan in the living room, he saw that Gu Wan had already put the leash back on Beibei's head.
Although Beibei was quite old, her spirit was still strong as ever. Right after dinner, she had desperately rubbed against Gu Wan's legs, running circles around her. Gu Wan was powerless against the affectionate pup, so of course she had to take her out for a good walk.
Although it was only a short meal, Gu Wan's attitude was much more natural.
"I'm taking Beibei out to play. We'll probably be back around 9 o'clock," she said.
Lu Yu was waiting for her usual "Come with me," but she didn't say it after all.
Lu Yu irritably pulled off his bow tie.
With the housekeeper's reminder now, he had also noticed that the wedding photos in the living room were gone.
For the first time outside of work, Lu Yu felt confused and at a loss.
On the other side.
Gu Wan discovered that there was not only a golf course here but also a huge man-made lake.
Beibei seemed to know this place rather well. Without hesitation, she brought Gu Wan here. Judging by this, it was clearly not their first time coming.
As Gu Wan looked around, it was fortunate that she hadn't asked Lu Yu if he wanted to come just now. That would have been quite embarrassing if she was rejected out of hand.
The August night was stuffy and hot. Thankfully the man-made lake was big enough that although it was still hot, it felt better than other places. No wonder so many people came here.
Probably because she had just moved here and was accompanied by a well-loved dog breed, Gu Wan found that Beibei didn't seem to have the best rapport with the other dogs - the popular and well-received breeds like Huskies, Samoyeds, and Golden Retrievers congregated together, leaving no room for Beibei to blend in. Gu Wan felt the only dog that could be considered Beibei’s friend was probably that fiercely-looking German Shepherd dog which was similarly ostracized.
As Yungshi Border Collies walked by, they seemed to disdainfully glance at Beibei and the German Shepherd before sauntering away. This left Gu Wan and the dog-walking maid revealing awkward but polite smiles.
Only then did Gu Wan realize that most of the people walking their dogs were maids and gardeners. With the season and temperature, there were fewer owners coming out.
Gu Wan couldn't help rubbing Beibei's head, thinking that Beibei really couldn't live without her. According to the housekeeper, Beibei's appetite had diminished greatly over the past few days when she wasn't there, so this was truly a sweet burden.
When Gu Wan looked up again, she saw that the German Shepherd was staring fixedly at them. Gu Wan hesitated for a moment, then tentatively reached out her hand.
Just when Gu Wan thought her subtle gesture would surely be ignored, she saw the German Shepherd tilt its head as if receiving some signal before enthusiastically coming over.
Gu Wan happily petted the dog, gradually forgetting the time until she came back to her senses and saw it was already past 9 o’clock.
Looking at Beibei panting heavily after playing Frisbee with the German Shepherd, Gu Wan waited until Beibei had rested enough before bidding farewell to the friendly German Shepherd and its dog-walking maid.
Seeing the German Shepherd still looking longingly at them, Gu Wan smiled and said, "Don't worry, we'll come back tomorrow."
It seemed as if the German Shepherd understood as it immediately wagged its tail.
Allowing the hot night wind to gently brush her cheeks, Beibei trotted ahead with her little short legs. From the window of Lu Yu's study, one could just make out Gu Wan's figure. But the night was too dark for Lu Yu to see anything clearly except the white bandage on her forehead.
Then came the sounds of opening and closing doors.
Lu Yu could almost imagine Gu Wan taking the towel handed by the maid and squatting down to carefully wipe every paw pad and toe crevice of the little dog, just like she always did.
Lu Yu also knew it wouldn’t be long before Gu Wan would come here under the guise of bringing him milk, trying every way to be affectionate with him for a while and get him all fired up before urging him to go rest.
And that was almost exactly what happened.
Looking at the previously clean towel which was now black all over, Gu Wan couldn't help but tug Beibei's ears.
Beibei looked at her innocently until Gu Wan's anger completely dissipated.
Gu Wan yawned, just about to go upstairs when she happened to bump into the maid coming out of the kitchen holding a glass of milk.
Seeing her, the maid automatically moved to hand her the tray without a thought.
Gu Wan was puzzled and didn't take it. "What's this for?" she asked.
"It’s for you," replied the maid.
Only then did Gu Wan know that she actually had a habit of bringing Lu Yu milk every night.
"And then would I usually add something else to this?" Gu Wan asked quietly.
The maid aunt shook her head, unclear.
The butler who had been eavesdropping the whole time didn’t want to hear any more at this point.
Sure enough, the next thing he heard the Madam say was, "Since nothing else is added to it, what difference does it make whoever sends it?"
The main difference was that Gu Wan's former wife tried every means to spend more time with Mr. Lu, but now she suddenly started to think about it from a bystander's perspective, the housekeeper thought.
After being stunned for a while, the nanny also understood, and wanted to say something several times but eventually kept silent and went upstairs.
Gu Wan thought about it and turned around to pour a glass of milk for himself in the kitchen.
After finishing the milk, Gu Wan found the master bedroom and methodically started washing up, while thinking about whether he should sleep separately from Lu Yu.
On the other side, in the study.
Upon hearing the knock, Lu Yu's hand paused from sending a message.
Right after he said in a low voice, "Come in," he realized the next second that the person who came was not Gu Wan at all, but the family nanny.
Lu Yu didn't say anything, but the nanny felt something was very wrong. She didn't dare to stay any longer, and after putting the milk on the table she hurried away.
Lu Yu stared at the glass of milk for a long time, not knowing what he was thinking. In the end, it was the message popping up on his phone that brought him back to his senses.
Seeing his assistant asking what plans he had next, ideas of some previous plans flashed quickly through Lu Yu's mind, but he abandoned them all in the end.
I plan to rest for a few days.
When he saw this sentence, Assistant Qin thought there was something wrong with his eyes. He refreshed it several times before finally confirming that it was not his problem, but Mr. Lu did say that.
Not caring at all what the other party had thought, Lu Yu muted his phone before heading to the master bedroom.
At this time, Gu Wan had just finished washing up, his whole face still flushed, like a peach blossom dipped lightly in spring water.
Just as Gu Wan struggled to apply something to his face in front of the bathroom mirror, a man’s hand suddenly reached over to take over the job.
Gu Wan only felt rough fingertips sliding across his cheeks, dot by dot, as if he had never done such a thing before. His actions seemed a little slow, and even somewhat awkward, just like his expression now.
In the few seconds that Gu Wan stood still with his body stiffened and mind halted, Lu Yu suddenly said coldly, “I happen to be taking a few days off, so I can go out and have fun with you.”
With Gu Wan's mind already not turning very fast, upon hearing this he blurted out, "No need."
Then Gu Wan added, "I made plans with Qianqian to go shopping."
Lu Yu's actions stopped immediately, and then the whole room fell silent.
