American Tax Officer

Chapter 155: Chapter 120: Verbal Battle in the Courtroom

Taryn was originally thinking of refusing.

But he was helpless when the Native Americans offered him a price he couldn't refuse.

Eventually he reasoned that losing a lawsuit under the IRS's court was a common occurrence and not a disgrace, so he clenched his teeth and took on the case!

Amidst these thoughts, Ditter Tevin and the three others had already been brought to the dock.

Kiesa first looked at Ditter and asked, "Mister Ditter, you're now accused of tax evasion, planning an attack on IRS agents, fleeing from crime… among numerous other charges. Do you have anything to say?"

Ditter first glanced at Taryn before turning his head and saying, "I did not plan the attack on IRS agents; it was someone else's doing, I was unaware!"

It was clear that Ditter had been coached.

And the person who had coached him knew very well that among his many charges, attacking IRS agents was the most serious one.

If this charge could be dropped, then perhaps he might live to see a day outside prison in his lifetime!

Kiesa asked, "Someone else? Who are you referring to?"

Ditter replied, "I don't know!"

"But according to the information submitted by the IRS, it's obvious that you orchestrated the plan and you're the only one with the motive!"

"I don't know; anyway, it wasn't me who directed it!"

Kiesa's expression darkened and she looked toward Director David sitting in the front row and said, "In that case, let's have the chief person in charge of this case, Director David, come up and present his statement."

David stood up, walked down to the court, and said, "Your Honor, according to the third page of document number four that I've submitted, there's witness testimony related to Ditter's assassination attempt, and the witness is Iman, the defendant, who is right here and can testify at any time!"

Kiesa flipped through to the document David was referring to, then looked at Iman and asked, "Mr. Iman, as the perpetrator, who instructed you to assassinate Director David?"

Iman lifted his head and said, "Your Honor, the assassination was Ditter's idea."

"You're talking nonsense; I never instructed you to fight!"

Ditter immediately roared out in anger.

At this point, Taryn also raised his palm, indicating that he wished to speak.

Kiesa said, "Please, defense attorney, speak!"

Taryn stood up and said, "Your Honor, according to the information I have, Mister Ditter indeed didn't instruct Iman to assassinate IRS agents. Someone else directed him!"

"Someone else? Who?"

Taryn turned to Iman and asked, "Mr. Iman, as far as I know, you've never met Mister Ditter before, and you have a deep relationship with Virginia. Was the assassination act directed by Virginia?"

Upon hearing this, the people in the court finally understood.

It turned out that Ditter's side was planning to pin the assassination on his subordinate, Virginia!

And everyone's gaze was then focused on Virginia's face, only to find that although his expression was somber, he remained silent, as if he had anticipated this outcome all along.

Of course, it was impossible to have foreseen this in advance, as humans don't have such abilities.

The only explanation was that they had colluded beforehand!

Kiesa looked at Iman and asked, "Mr. Iman, is what the defense attorney has said true?"

Iman was momentarily at a loss for words.

Because indeed, as Taryn had said, he had always been serving under Virginia and had never seen Ditter.

So even if he knew that the deed was instructed by Ditter, without Virginia's confession, he had no direct evidence to prove it.

Eventually, he could only cast his gaze toward David, his eyes seemingly telling David: I am powerless!

But David was in no hurry at the time; he leisurely said, "Your Honor, I would like to call a witness named Sapir."

"Granted!"

Soon after, Sapir was brought out by an Inspector.

Seeing his appearance, Ditter's eyes instantly flared with fire, his emotions stirred up because he had just heard that Sapir was attending as a witness.

That is to say, he was here to testify against him!

In the midst of these thoughts, Sapir had already taken a seat in the witness stand.

Kiesa then asked, "Mr. Sapir, please first state your identity!"

"Yes, Your Honor!"

Sapir first cast a wary glance at Ditter, then looked toward David and after organizing his thoughts, said, "I am a lawyer for the Ditter Criminal Group. I was primarily responsible for helping Ditter with money laundering and avoiding various legal issues..."

Kiesa asked, "So you're a high-ranking official in this group?"

"Yes, Your Honor!"

"And regarding Ditter's suspected assassination of IRS agents, do you have any testimony?"

"I was present when Ditter was preparing for the assassination, and I heard with my own ears that it was Ditter who instructed Virginia, and it was Virginia who eventually found Iman..."

"You bastard, you betrayed me, I'll kill you, damn Sapir!"

Before Sapir could finish, Ditter had already lost his temper and was lashing out like a storm, ready to pounce if not for the Inspectors on either side restraining him.

"Bang, bang, bang!!!"

Kiesa picked up the gavel and struck it down heavily three times, scolding, "Silence! Defense attorney, do you have anything to add?"

Taryn was silent.

He didn't know about Sapir's involvement, and it seemed that Ditter hadn't mentioned to him last night about Sapir testifying, so he was somewhat caught off guard.
