Chapter 566: The Power of the Legendary Army, Hades... Is This It?
As the commander of this battle, Boris held most of the authority over the formation. Under his command, all the legends, demigods, and the other nine gods acting as formation cores erupted with their powers.
The immense energy quickly condensed into a thick and resilient defensive barrier above the army, formed through the power of the formation.
In that moment, all eyes were focused on the barrier, some filled with tension, some praying, while others were confident and hopeful. Then, the massive Celestial Star, powerful and awe-inspiring, like a world-destroying meteor, crashed down onto the protective shield of the formation!
Boom!
A terrifying shockwave surged from the formation, causing everyone within to feel a heavy pressure, immediately urging them to mobilize their energies, fully focused on preparing for the impending counterattack.
However, the next moment, everyone froze in place. The reason was simple: the mighty Celestial Star, which had seemed invincible and world-shattering, shattered upon impact and exploded into a raging inferno that spread across the formation’s barrier.
But soon, the power from the formation itself negated the flames, extinguishing them little by little. In other words, that Celestial Star had been destroyed just like that?
Not even the demigods who had transmitted their powers expected this. Even Eterna was caught off guard, staring at the undamaged defense shield in astonishment. He had expected that the shield would be broken by the Celestial Star, and then the formation would unleash a powerful counterattack to heavily damage this legendary army. But to his surprise, the Celestial Star... was that all?
"What... what just happened?"
"Did we actually survive?"
"The power of that Celestial Star... seems like it’s not that much after all."
"Could this be a test from that demon?"
The group couldn’t help but murmur, looking up at the figure in the sky. Though fear still flickered in their eyes, it wasn’t the same panic or hopelessness as before. Had Boris been right? Was this Hades really just some insignificant threat, only capable of wiping out cannon fodder? Was he actually powerless against their legendary army?
After all, they were the legendary army! Moreover, Sterl had only managed to massacre that cannon fodder legion because their formation had been broken. Without the formation, even other gods, despite their AOE abilities, wouldn’t have achieved the same level of destruction. It was just a matter of time.
However, despite these reassurances, given the terrifying display from this creature earlier, no one dared to act carelessly. They still harbored some wariness and hesitated to make any moves.
"Is this the formation of the legendary army…?"
Sterl’s gaze rested on the defensive barrier. This legendary army truly lived up to its reputation as the backbone of the Ashen Temple in this war. Although a portion of it had been decimated by the Godslayer Crossbow, there were still 80,000 to 90,000 legends remaining. Most of them were mid-level and high-level legends, with a notable number of Ascendants, just shy of demigods. Even a significant number of demigods were present.
Such a legion, combined with a powerful formation, producing results like this wasn’t surprising. Furthermore, this formation was anchored by ten gods, amplifying its power. Even an upper-tier god might find themselves helpless against it.
As for the Celestial Star he had just unleashed, it wasn’t a mere probe. It had been a fully-powered Celestial Star, stronger than any he had released before. Yet, it had only managed to achieve such minimal results.
"Let’s try again."
With that, Sterl raised his hand toward the legendary army once more. Instantly, everyone’s nerves were on edge, watching his movements cautiously and preparing to resist with all their might.
A radiant glow began to coalesce in Sterl’s hand, the light gathering rapidly until it formed into a brilliant, dazzling beam. It looked almost divine, but the aura it exuded was nothing short of annihilation.
With Sterl’s base attributes significantly enhanced, the Destruction Divine Light had naturally grown much stronger as well. Without hesitation, he aimed it at the legendary army below and unleashed his strongest single-target attack in his arsenal.
Seeing this, every legend and demigod, including Boris himself, pushed their efforts to the limit. They channeled their energy into the formation, driving it to its absolute peak to counteract the incoming assault.
Boom!! n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
The Destruction Divine Light struck the turtle-shell-like defensive barrier dead-on. The force behind the attack was far greater than that of the previous Celestial Star, impacting everyone contributing to the formation. Many of the weaker legends felt their chests tighten, struggling to breathe under the pressure. Even the stronger ones experienced a noticeable shock.
And yet… that was it!?
Within less than thirty seconds, the formation had completely recovered. The defensive barrier above them remained almost pristine, unscathed. The shock and disbelief on their faces were evident as they stared up at the barrier.
"What the hell! It’s really fine? Is this some kind of hallucination before my death?"
A legendary soldier patted here and there, finally confirming that he was truly unharmed. The power of their formation had actually withstood this monster’s attack!
This discovery sent a wave of joy through the ranks. Panic slowly turned into exhilaration, and smiles began to replace the fear on everyone’s faces. Indeed, their formation was invincible!
What was Hades? What was the War God of Orichalcum? Even if he had killed five gods, he still couldn’t destroy their powerful formation. Under the protection of the formation, even divine power seemed insignificant!
"We’re fine! We’re invincible! Not even this monster can harm us!"
"Kill him! Kill this damn butcher, this cruel devil, and send him to hell!"
As they snapped back to their senses, the soldiers unleashed a collective roar of anger. They immediately focused the full power of their formation and launched a Suppression, intending to crush Sterl and permanently remove the fear that had taken root in their hearts.
Eterna was slightly confused but quickly realized what was happening. He knew Hades’ strength—although formidable, it was still only at the level of a weaker Divine Power. No matter how strong, it was still not on the level of an upper-tier god.
Therefore, while he had no problem dealing with ordinary gods, the power he released with each move was far beyond what a non-divine entity could resist. But breaking through the legendary army’s formation, one that was strong enough to resist even upper-tier gods, was simply impossible!
Sterl, however, showed no surprise. It was as though he had anticipated this outcome all along. But there was one thing Eterna had misunderstood: it wasn’t that he couldn’t break through the shell, but that it all depended on whether he wanted to or not.
"No wonder this legendary army can withstand the Godslayer Crossbow, even in such a rushed state," Sterl muttered, a hint of admiration in his voice. "The power of a formation, once properly condensed, truly is extraordinary."
It made sense now why even divine forces would develop their own legions. When a formation reached a certain level of strength, it was no weaker than any individual power. This also made Sterl’s desire to create his own legion even stronger.
Of course, before that, he would need to gather more soul power. After all, creating a legion would require a massive amount of soul energy. Not only did he need to strengthen himself, but he also needed to store energy as a backup plan. Soul power was never too much to have.
With that in mind, he subtly signaled Boris. Then, with a thought, he activated all his internal energy and began to mobilize his full strength.
"Celestial Stars! Celestial Stars! Celestial Stars!!"
With each flow of energy expended, vast amounts of star power gathered in the sky, forming enormous Celestial Stars.
One… two… ten… twenty…
Even though Sterl’s energy and vitality were now several times greater than before he joined the Orichalcum Kingdom, he still had to drink a bottle of restorative potion.
Before his last drop of strength was spent, the sky above him had gathered a full one hundred Celestial Stars, each swirling with terrifying Flame and exuding a heavy, oppressive aura!
However, this time, none of the soldiers in the legendary army looked afraid. Instead, their faces were filled with madness and ferocity.
"Is this the best you’ve got?"
"Just some parlor tricks to scare us. This time, let’s show this Hades the true power of our strength!"
A hundred Celestial Stars—a force that had previously brought utter despair to all who witnessed it—now only fueled the battle spirit of this legendary army. Far from being afraid, they were brimming with confidence and enthusiasm.
This was why many high-ranking individuals always kept an air of mystery around them when facing others. Once their true nature was revealed, people would realize that they were not invincible after all, and that would strike a massive blow to their authority and status.
Now, in the eyes of these soldiers, Hades was no longer an enigmatic "higher power," but just another fraud exposed.
"Fall!"
In response to the taunts and excitement of the legendary army, Sterl was completely unconcerned. Everything was going according to his plan. This self-assured legendary army was nothing more than a succulent meal he had already set his sights on.
"Come on, unleash all your power! The Ashen Temple is invincible!"
Boris, too, let out a loud cry, using his formation command to channel all the power of the soldiers. The legends and demigods in the legion gave it their all, pushing their strength to the limit, with the formation almost ready to burst under the strain.
But no one noticed the sinister and cunning look in Boris’ eyes.
As the massive power of the legion gathered, the defensive barrier enveloping the entire force grew even thicker, like an unbreakable wall, one that even an upper-tier god would find frustrating to penetrate.
At the same time, the hundred Celestial Stars, carrying an overwhelming force, began their descent, ready to strike the barrier and shatter it into oblivion.
But just as this was about to happen, an unexpected change occurred!
