Chapter 15 - The Value of Attribute Points x A Huge Loss!
Chapter 15: The Value of Attribute Points x A Huge Loss!
“What a little monster!”
Netero stared at Lorin, who lay collapsed in the distance, his eyes filled with a mixture of shock and excitement.
Compressing his sense of time with sheer mental power!
This was a state that Netero had only managed to enter after reaching the peak of his martial arts and physical strength at the age of forty-six. After expressing gratitude to the martial arts that had elevated him, he had spent two years in the mountains, performing ten thousand grateful straight punches every day, before accidentally stepping into this domain.
And it took several more years of refinement before he could truly control this ‘miraculous’ state.
But today…
He saw it in this young kid.
Although the boy’s performance was still raw, far from Netero’s own level, it was already terrifyingly impressive.
The most puzzling thing for Netero, though, was…
How had this kid, with such an average physical build, been able to reach that kind of speed?
When Netero first entered this domain, his body was already at the human peak, and even then, it took years of training for his body to adapt to the speed. Otherwise, no matter how much one compressed their sense of time, if the body couldn’t keep up with the mind’s speed, it would be like watching a lantern show in slow motion.
But seeing Lorin exhausted and unable to move, Netero had a guess.
“An authentic little monster.” Netero cursed inwardly, but a smile crept onto his lips.
He hadn’t misjudged him.
“That kid’s down for the count. Do either of you want to go next?” Netero turned and looked at Gon and the others.
Hmm.
Before the prey grows strong enough to hunt, why not train the toys a little?
“I want to! I want to play!”
“I’m done! I surrender!”
Gon and Killua gave completely opposite answers, then looked at each other in confusion.
“Hey, Gon, didn’t you see what just happened? That old man is way out of our league. There’s no way we can get the ball from him,” Killua puffed his cheeks.
“I know! But it’s okay if we can’t get the ball! I want to see if I can enter the same state as Lorin,” Gon’s eyes sparkled with excitement and anticipation.
Though Gon might be a bit simple, he wasn’t stupid. Lorin wasn’t much stronger than him earlier, so if Lorin could suddenly become so powerful, he wanted to try too.
Killua was momentarily stunned by Gon’s words, but then snorted softly.
“Do whatever you want! I’m going to sleep. But don’t get your hopes up…” Killua glanced at Lorin before turning to leave.
Compared to the clueless Gon, Killua better understood just how absurd the things Lorin and Netero had just displayed really were.
Watching Killua leave, Gon didn’t say anything more, but eagerly turned to Netero and said, “Mr. Netero, let’s start! I want to become like Lorin!”
Netero was stunned by Gon’s enthusiasm, silently admiring the boy’s ambition.
He had lived for over a hundred years and had only seen one such monster, yet here was another. But Netero simply smiled and encouraged him: “Alright, let’s see if you can reach that level too.”
…
Listening to the conversation between Gon and Netero, and hearing them start their game again, Lorin didn’t mock Gon.
He knew that Gon had that potential too.
In the Chimera Ant arc, after Gon forcibly matured through the use of vows and limitations, transforming into Black Gon, he and Killua, who had entered the Godspeed state, once engaged in a true Heart Drop Punch exchange.
Though neither spoke a word, Killua clearly heard Black Gon’s self-reproach.
However.
For Gon to tap into that potential, without resorting to such a dark path, he would likely need to undergo decades of training, just like Netero.
But…
“Why was I able to do it?”
A trace of confusion arose in Lorin’s heart.
He didn’t think he was currently on par with Netero or a fully matured Gon, but why had he been able to easily enter such a high-speed state?
As this question formed in his mind, Lorin quickly found an answer.
His thoughts stirred.
Level 100 God System
Name: Lorin
Level: 1 (20/1000)
Vitality: 1
Mental Power: 1
World: Hunter x Hunter
Undoubtedly, Lorin had been able to enter that high-speed state because of that one point in vitality and one point in mental power.
Initially, he had thought that one point in vitality merely boosted his physical abilities beyond the average person, and that one point in mental power only gave him better control over his body.
But now…
“The value of one attribute point is much greater than I had imagined!” Lorin murmured to himself.
And just then, Lorin noticed a small change on his system panel.
“Experience: 20?”
Lorin was stunned.
He remembered clearly that his experience had been at 14 when the second test began, and the physical exertion during the test couldn’t have earned him even one point of experience.
So…
“Did I just gain it?” Lorin’s heart began to race.
It seemed like… he had discovered a shortcut to leveling up.
If this experience had been gained just now, then the reason was obvious—it was that high-speed state where time was compressed!
Lorin, feeling the exhaustion in his body, realized that if his earlier guess about gaining experience through physical training was correct, then it made sense.
No, it didn’t make sense at all.
Lorin suddenly snapped out of it.
Given his stamina, running continuously for a day and night wouldn’t leave him this exhausted.
If he ran for a full day and night, he would certainly gain dozens of experience points, but now he was this tired and had only gained six points? How was that fair?
It wasn’t fair!
Lorin’s initial excitement quickly turned into frustration.
He had suffered a huge loss!
