Chapter 424: The Heritage of Yunlan Sect!
“Overestimating yourself!”
Protector Feng laughed arrogantly as the power of the black chains surged again. The chains' tips broke through Yun Shan’s Dou Qi defenses and viciously shot toward his heart.
At this critical moment, a red figure moved with a speed nearly imperceptible to the naked eye. In an instant, the figure appeared in front of Yun Shan. Just as the sharp tip of the black chain was about to pierce Yun Shan, the figure reached out and grabbed it.
Under this grasp, the once terrifyingly powerful black chain shattered completely.
Flame Dragon’s strength had already reached the peak of nine-star Dou Ancestor, nearing the threshold of breaking into the Dou Venerate realm. It wouldn’t be long before he followed in Little Silver’s footsteps and attempted such a breakthrough. With his current nine-star Dou Ancestor peak strength, dealing with Protector Feng, who was merely at the peak of four-star Dou Ancestor, was almost effortless.
“Who are you?”
Seeing his attack so easily neutralized by the red-haired middle-aged man, Protector Feng’s hidden eyes flashed with horror as he exclaimed in shock.
“The one taking your life!”
A fierce voice erupted from the red-haired man. Immediately, a blinding red light surged from his palm, emitting an energy fluctuation that struck fear into the heart.
“Flame Dragon, don’t kill him just yet. Just subdue him,” Nalan Yanran quickly interjected as Flame Dragon was about to finish Protector Feng.
Upon hearing her, Flame Dragon let the red glow in his palm fade. With a flash, he appeared behind the black mist with uncanny speed and gave a light tap, scattering the black mist completely. It revealed the figure of a man fully cloaked in black robes.
“So, it’s just a spiritual entity!”
After dispersing the black mist, Flame Dragon immediately discerned Protector Feng’s nature. Without hesitation, he extended his powerful Dou Qi-imbued hands, grabbed Protector Feng by the neck, and restrained him effortlessly.
“Thank you, Senior, for saving me!”
Seeing Flame Dragon destroy the black chains and capture Protector Feng, Yun Shan expressed his deep gratitude.
Hearing Yun Shan address him as "Senior," Flame Dragon waved his hands and shook his head. “Yun Shan, sir, you are the master of the Lady of the House. How could I dare accept such a title from you?”
“This… Yun Yun is your mistress, so… Gu He is your master?” Yun Shan asked in disbelief, his expression full of astonishment.
“Yes, Yun Shan, sir,” Flame Dragon confirmed with a nod.
Protector Feng, now restrained by Flame Dragon, was equally shocked. From their conversation, he quickly pieced together the relationship between Flame Dragon and Yun Shan.
To Protector Feng, the red-haired man before him had to be at least an eight-star Dou Ancestor, or even a nine-star. And if someone of such strength called another his master, that master was surely a Dou Venerate at minimum.
Realizing this, Protector Feng understood he had severely miscalculated today.
“This is all just a misunderstanding,” Protector Feng said with difficulty, his voice strained under the oppressive red energy binding him. “I am Protector Feng of the Hall of Souls. For the sake of the Hall of Souls, I hope you will spare me.”
“Silence!”
Hearing Protector Feng's still sinister voice, Flame Dragon roared at him, “If you dare interrupt again, I’ll destroy you right here and now!”
Having witnessed Flame Dragon’s terrifying power and hearing the murderous intent in his words, Protector Feng immediately fell silent.
By this time, Nalan Yanran had approached Yun Shan and respectfully asked, “Grandmaster, are you all right?”
“I’m fine, I’m fine. Your grandmaster isn’t that fragile!” Yun Shan waved dismissively.
“It’s good to hear you’re fine, Grandmaster… But Grandmaster, could you tell me why Protector Feng came to see you in the dead of night? What kind of deal was he trying to make? Also, this ‘Hall of Souls’ he keeps mentioning—do you know anything about it?” Nalan Yanran asked, her questions coming in quick succession.
After asking, she quickly added with sincerity, “Grandmaster, please don’t misunderstand. I’m asking these questions out of concern for your safety and that of Yunlan Sect. I mean no disrespect.”
Yun Shan was not offended by her questions. Instead, he replied openly, “Yanran, I’ve never met Protector Feng before. I’ve only had dealings with Protector Jiu, who mentioned him. As for their organization, it seems to have many Protectors with power similar to theirs. Beyond that, I don’t know much.”
“This matter is significant—it could affect the survival of Yunlan Sect. It’s best to inform your master and mistress as soon as possible,” Yun Shan said gravely.
“Grandmaster, my master and mistress left Yunlan Sect a few days ago and are currently traveling. They’re not here at the moment,” Nalan Yanran replied, shaking her head.
“Gu He and Yun Yun have left? Did they mention when they’d return?” Yun Shan asked in surprise. He had already come to rely on Gu He as a pillar of support.
“I’m not sure, Grandmaster,” Nalan Yanran responded, shaking her head again. She then spread her wings and flew to a spot three meters in front of Flame Dragon, shouting at Protector Feng, “The Hall of Souls you mentioned—what kind of force is it, and why have you come to Yunlan Sect?”
The Hall of Souls was known for its secrecy. Even many factions in Zhongzhou had only heard of its name, let alone the remote and barren northwestern region, where knowledge of it was almost nonexistent.
“Heh heh, little girl, the Hall of Souls where I serve is so terrifying that if I told you, it would scare you to death!” Protector Feng sneered.
“Ah!”
Before he could finish speaking, Flame Dragon’s foot slammed into him, eliciting a pained scream from the soul entity.
“Speak properly, or I’ll erase your soul on the spot!” Flame Dragon roared angrily.
Protector Feng, who had already been terrified of Flame Dragon’s threats, realized that his usual tactic of intimidating others with the Hall of Souls’ reputation was utterly ineffective here. Flame Dragon clearly didn’t know or care how powerful the Hall of Souls was. Desperate to survive, Protector Feng reluctantly decided to explain.
“Have you ever heard the phrase ‘One Hall, One Tower, Two Sects, Three Valleys, Four Clans’? This describes some of the most powerful factions in Zhongzhou! Among them, the One Hall and One Tower hold the highest positions. Even the weakest, the Four Clans, each have at least one Venerate in their ranks.”
“The Hall of Souls, where I serve, is one of the most revered forces in Zhongzhou!” Protector Feng explained succinctly.
“So even the weakest of the Four Clans have Venerates in their ranks. Then your Hall of Souls must have several Dou Venerate experts, right?”
