Contract Marriage: Emperor CEO's Secretary Wife

Chapter 206 - Overslept

Chapter 206 - Overslept

She gradually fell asleep despite being so restless, days of fatigue sinking in as her eyelids slowly closed. Her breathing steady and quiet while she was being pulled to the dreamland.

Meanwhile, Lu Chen pulled the door of their shared bedroom ajar after withdrawing from Lu Qiang’s room. A curl appeared on his lips seeing his wife’s slumbering figure, her shoulders up and down under the blanket. He carefully entered the room and walked over to Xiu Mei’s bedside.

He crouched beside her and tenderly gazed at her sleeping face.

"Hm." He lightly chuckled hearing the soft snore coming from her. He gently stroked her hair.

The wife must have been really tired. She was even softly snoring in her sleep for the first time. He watched her sleeping figure in amus.e.m.e.nt while recalling her lost expression back before he left the room and tucking her to bed.

His eyes dimmed a little bit as he thought of why she suddenly became like that. He was still quite worried even if she was with his father-in-law during the burial and so he had someone guard her throughout the day without her knowledge.

And it seems like his wife was trying to poke her nose into the dangerous waters.

He lifted his hand and brushed his fingers on her hair as he continued his trail of thoughts.

’Yu Ming Xi... is it really his work?’ He wondered. His subordinate gave him a printed copy of the conversation Yu Ming Xi had with his men after Pei Ji Huang’s burial.

He was already clear of what his activities are abroad, but he was more interested in his statement that he was somehow involved with Pei Ji Huang’s death.

He didn’t exactly say that he killed him, but he did something to confuse the authorities during their investigation. Meaning, the possibility that Yu Ming Xi didn’t kill Pei Ji Huang still stands.

He continued staring at his wife’s sleeping figure.

Xiu Mei woke up quite late the next day. It was already past the time for breakfast and almost the time to bring Lu Qiang to school.

"Oh my gosh!" She almost shrieked as soon as she saw the flashing red numbers on her bedside clock. She spun her head and looked at the space beside the bed and touched it. She felt no warmth realizing that Lu Chen must have woken up hours ago already.

Damn it! It was already so late. Why did Lu Chen not wake her up?! She couldn’t even prepare for their lunch too!

Without washing her face or doing her normal morning routine, Xiu Mei dashed downstairs and was met with the two men—one big and one small, making their way over to the front door. The kid was already wearing his backpack and the other one holding his work bag.

Both heard the rushing footsteps from the stairs behind them, making them turn their heads.

"Mom? You’re awake!" Lu Qiang exclaimed in surprise seeing her mother’s figure running down the stairs. His cold and sulking expression disappearing from his face in a flash as he couldn’t stop a smile forming on his lips.

Beside him stood his father, who also turned around him like him and saw his mother’s figure approaching them. His cold expression turned warm as he saw his father immediately step forward to come over to his mother.

"Good morning, wife." Lu Chen greeted, as he pulled her into his arms and pressed a kiss on her hair. "Sorry, did we wake you up?"

He said while brushing her messed up hair, understanding immediately that Xiu Mei rushed downstairs as soon as she woke up. Else, she would have tidied herself up first before leaving the room.

Xiu Mei lightly pushed his chest and raised her head to show him her furrowed expression. She was rushing downstairs to catch up to them that she completely forgot to grab her tablet from the bedside table before going down.

Thankfully, her husband understood what she was trying to say.

He continued smoothening her hair as he nonchalantly replied, "I knew you were too tired so I wanted you to sleep in for today so you could get enough rest that’s why I didn’t wake you up."

Xiu Mei’s brows furrowed even further as she glanced at Lu Qiang, who also walked over to her and stood obediently by her side as if waiting for them to finish their conversation first.

"Don’t worry, our son will be fine. The chef already packed his lunch and snacks so he wouldn’t get hungry. I’ll also drop him off before going to the company today." Lu Chen said as if he was uttering a report to his wife. And then he threw a glance at his son who was silently watching at the side budging him to speak.

Lu Qiang, of course, picked up his father’s signal and opened his mouth in support. "Dad’s right, Mommy. I’ll be fine. Just take a rest for today so that when I get home later, we can talk all night again."

Xiu Mei bit her lip as she glanced at her son and to her husband. Is this really alright?

"It will be fine. It’s just for today anyway. Tomorrow, I promise I’ll wake you up again if you sleep through your alarm." Lu Chen appeased her as soon as he noticed his wife’s dampened mood. He lightly brushed his palm on her back as he spoke to her in a lowered voice.

"I’ll even wake you up like a princess if you want to." He softly muttered in her ears.

Xiu Mei’s brows still furrowed, but this time, in confusion.

Wake her up like a princess?

He added while winking, "I can add a tongue for better and deep experience too. Maybe with less clothing as well if you allow it?"

He even lightly bit her ear immediately sending shivers down her spine.

Xiu Mei’s eyes jumped finally realizing what he meant. Her heart did a flip as her cheeks flushed red in embarrassment at the rogue words escaping from her husband’s mouth. Her hand instantly flew as she slapped his chest and pushed him away putting distance between them.

This guy!!! Is he itching for a beating ah?!

How can he be so rogue and shameless in front of their son ah!!!

She frowned and pouted as she heard him chuckle while he watched her reaction.

He was even having fun teasing her!!!

She harrumphed in annoyance and crossed her arms looking away and deciding to ignore him. Watch her sleep very early later so she’ll not oversleep tomorrow! She won’t let him have his chances! Hmph!

The butler watching at the sideline watched the three people interact with each other. But as much as he wanted to not disturb them, he had to remind the two masters about the time because they’re gonna be late.

After being reminded by the butler of the time, Xiu Mei could only give up and surrender to the two men in front of her. She could only send her son with a kiss since she didn’t bring her tablet and he’s still learning sign language. For her husband, she threw him a glare but Lu Chen was stronger than her and so she was quickly pulled into a hug and a short kiss before finally deciding to leave.

She followed them to the car and sent them off while waving goodbye. After returning inside the house, the butler informed her that breakfast was ready and so she pointed upstairs, trying to tell him to bring her breakfast in her room instead. The butler was quick and understood her intentions so he nodded in response to her request.

With her husband and child away, eating alone in that big dining room would depress her instead. Besides, she hasn’t even showered nor combed her hair yet. She looked completely improper to leave the room. Her Grandmother Xiu would definitely lecture her for hours if she learns about this.

She marched upstairs and opened her wardrobe to pick up her clothes. She briefly entered the bathroom to take a quick shower and freshened up herself. Her breakfast arrived shortly after, and so with her laptop beside her, she ate her breakfast slowly while responding to some of her work emails.

The investigation about Pei Ji Huang’s death continued. With newly found information, Lu Chen informed Xiu Mo Ruo about the planted evidence of Yu Ming Xi. It didn’t take long for them to find out which evidence was purposely planted.

"Yu Ming Xi planted hidden money in Pei Ji Huang’s vault?" Xiu Mo Ruo’s brows furrowed as he read the report he received. At first glance, it would have been very normal for some money to be kept in Pei Ji Huang’s vault, given that he is a businessman and a very wealthy one at that.

But it seems as the money evidence planted was in large amounts of different currencies.

A seven-digit worth of American dollars, Japanese Yen, European Pounds and many more.

Xiu Mo Ruo’s first thought was... Yu Ming Xi seriously let go of this much money and planted it as evidence?
