Contract Marriage: Emperor CEO's Secretary Wife

Chapter 78 - Her fault

Chapter 78 - Her fault

Even though that person had already long disappeared from her sight, Xiu Mei didn’t look away from the glass door entrance. The paper almost tore apart by clenching her fist too much. She felt a cold chill behind her back as if someone was still watching over her despite that person being long gone now.

’Long time no see. It’s been a long 10 years isn’t it Miss Xiu?’

Clearly, the person who wrote the note was implying about her and Ying Yue’s kidnapping 10 years ago. And from the note alone, it seems that person was somehow involved in that incident.

Was he the mastermind behind the kidnapping?

10 years ago, the Xiu family exerted all their forces into finding out the mastermind behind their kidnapping. Despite having such powerful connections and people, they weren’t able to catch the true mastermind behind all of it.

The kidnappers that were caught on the scene had been murdered an hour after they were caught. They were killed before being questioned so the chance of finding out who paid them to kidnap her was instantly cut off.

Xui Mei grew cold as the fear she felt from that night returned all at once again. She unconsciously hugged herself, curling up her body which is a sign that Xiu Mei is trying to lock away her emotions again. It’s an unconscious action done by traumatized victims when they’re feeling anxiety and fear.

If that person really is the mastermind of their kidnapping... why was that person coming back again now?

Does that mean that she was the goal all along? Did it mean that Ying Yue wasn’t supposed to be included in the kidnapping 10 years ago?

"...was it really my fault?"

Tears pooled in Xiu Mei’s eyes as fear continues to eat her away. She’s gotten too absorbed with herself that she didn’t notice that the nurse has already returned. She didn’t even hear her trying to call her name.

Xiu Mei... has completely lost it. Everything in front her turned black, as she fell into nothingness.

Lu Chen was having an argument with his son in Xiu Mei’s room when he was suddenly called out by the head nurse. He instantly noticed that there was something wrong with the head nurse’s tone. He instantly knew that something must have gone wrong with Xiu Mei so he instantly rushed out of the room and followed her to where Xui Mei was.

Every second that ticked by that he wasn’t beside Xiu Mei right now felt years. He felt anxious as he thought of every worst possibility that may have gone. Lu Chen blamed himself.

Why didn’t he accompany her for the tests ah!?

Nothing would have happened if he went with her!

"Damn it." Lu Chen cursed himself as he watched the beaming numbers change quickly until it stopped on ’1’ indicating that they have reached the ground floor.

A minute later, he finally reached the park where he quickly spotted Xiu Mei sitting under the tree. He almost stopped in shock when he saw her current situation.

The woman that was still happily exchanging words with him a while ago now looked like she’s having a breakdown.

His steps quickened and it only stopped when he finally reached her. He kneeled in front of her, the woman who was bending her body down almost burying herself on her lap as if she was trying to hide.

He could even hear her soft sobs as she repeatedly uttered the words "I’m sorry, I’m sorry."

Xiu Mei’s body was trembling so hard, and it was the first time ever Lu Chen saw her looking this helpless and afraid.

Lu Chen’s heart broke, and it felt like someone was squeezing his heart as he saw Xiu Mei’s terrible state. He held out his hands, planning to hug her but stopped midway when he saw Xiu Mei’s body falling to the side.

His eyes grew wide as he easily caught her in his arms.

"Xiu Mei?" His voice trembled as he called out her name. Yet, the woman in his arms did not respond.

He quickly brushed away the hair on her face and saw her eyes shut. He lightly shook her body as he called out her name once again.

"Xiu Mei? Wife?"

Still no response. Lu Chen’s eyes dimmed as he quickly hugged her up, dashing towards the door. He was bringing her now to the emergency room.

He laid her down on an empty bed and reluctantly moved away when the nurses and doctors told him to do so. He watched the doctors getting her vitals as they tried to figure out why she suddenly lost consciousness. He didn’t even notice how everyone around him stood farther away because his anger could be felt by anyone near him, keeping away people from approaching him.

"Dad?"

Lu Chen only broke out from his reverie when he heard Lu Qiang’s voice. He looked behind him and saw the little kid approaching him. Lu Chen immediately calmed himself down as he gestured Lu Qiang to come to him. He hugged the little guy up in his arms.

"Where’s Mom? Is she okay?" Lu Qiang knew that something had gone wrong with Mom.

It was even confirmed when he saw his Dad rushed out of the room and now seeing him so angry as he sat on the receiving room in the emergency room.

"She’ll be fine." Lu Chen assured the little kid as he comforted him.

His son is very intelligent so he knows that Lu Qiang understood that the situation had turned bad so he had to assure him. Especially with how special Xiu Mei is in his heart, Lu Qiang would be surely heartbroken if he sees Xiu Mei’s current situation.

He quickly pulled out his phone and messaged Xiu Mei’s family about the situation. After that, the two of them waited for the doctor’s diagnosis outside.

Fifteen minutes later, one doctor stepped away from Xiu Mei’s area and approached him.

"How is she?"

"We’re still not sure yet why she fainted but we can assure you that nothing’s wrong with her body. Her head injury didn’t seem to be the cause of her fainting spells so it might take a while for us to figure out why this happened. Ah! And also, this was being held tightly by the patient so I think you should hold it for her first."

The doctor handed a crumpled paper to him. It looked like that Xiu Mei was holding into it so tightly that the edges of the paper were already slightly torn.

Lu Chen turned over the paper and his gaze grew colder as he read the contents.

A few seconds later, he heard Mo Ruo’s voice calling him.

"Mr. Lu, where’s my sister?"

He was in the middle of a conference when he received Lu Chen’s message so he immediately left the room and rushed here.

"Inside." Lu Chen threw the paper to Xiu Mo Ruo and the guy reflexively caught the paper that was thrown at him. He looked questioningly at Lu Chen.

"What is it?"

"A rat sneaked in." Lu Chen simply stated. Xiu Mo Ruo quickly understood his words and uncrumpled the paper. After reading it, he understood that things have escalated too quickly than expected.

"We have to move her." Lu Chen remarked.

"I know."
