Chapter 441 A Proposal That Can't Be Refused
While Jeremy and Ritchie were trapped in the underground drainage system of Valley City, on the outskirts of the city, the Mayor of Valley City was locked in a heated argument with one of Kean's subordinates.
"Why didn't you inform me of your plans in advance? Why did you suddenly act on your own? And how could your actions be so reckless?" The Mayor of Valley City was furious.
He roared at the top of his lungs. If he had the strength to overpower the person in front of him, he would have killed them on the spot.
"Your Excellency, Mr. Mayor, I think you shouldn't blame me," Kean's subordinate replied smugly. "The reason I acted suddenly is that I assessed the odds and found them overwhelmingly in our favor. My actions have already yielded significant results. Jeremy, Ritchie, and Major Joseph are all trapped in the underground drainage system."
Kean's subordinate was brimming with pride.
In reality, the attack on Valley City was a coordinated effort between Kean's subordinate and the planners of the apocalypse game. While Kean's subordinate was elated, the Mayor of Valley City was absolutely livid.
"Didn't I warn you before? Don't act rashly! If you truly felt the need to take action, you should have consulted with me first! Even if your operation succeeded, Valley City is now facing a tremendous threat!
If Valley City is destroyed, neither of us will be able to bear the consequences! Even Kean will be implicated by your actions! Do you think Kean is capable of standing against the Federation's upper echelons?"
Although the Mayor of Valley City also wanted to eliminate Major Joseph, Jeremy, and Ritchie, his top priority was the safety of Valley City.
What the Mayor hadn't told Kean's subordinate was the impending attack by monsters that would descend upon Valley City in just a few days.
This lack of information left Kean's subordinate unaware of the bigger picture. He was singularly focused on eliminating Jeremy and Ritchie. Your next chapter awaits on empire
"As long as Jeremy is eliminated, my master will no longer face any threats! Even if it costs Valley City, I believe it's a fair trade. At least, from my perspective, this is entirely acceptable!"
Kean's subordinate had completely disregarded all other considerations.
Hearing this response, the Mayor of Valley City was seething with rage.
"All right, I'll take a step back! Since you've already trapped Jeremy and the others in the underground drainage system, then have the monsters in Valley City retreat immediately.
If those monsters don't leave, they will cause irreparable harm to Valley City."
The Mayor of Valley City compromised, hoping that this gesture would convince Kean's subordinate to heed his advice.
However, a sly, enigmatic smile crept across Kean's subordinate's face.
"I think you're being far too naive. You're a smart man—do you really think I could easily convince the monsters from the apocalypse game to work with me?"
These words left the Mayor of Valley City utterly stunned.
"You mean to say… you've offered Valley City as payment to the monsters from the apocalypse game?!" The Mayor asked in disbelief.
Kean's subordinate smiled and nodded calmly.
"Exactly as I said. As long as Jeremy is eliminated, I'm willing to pay any price! Besides, the deal proposed by the monsters from the apocalypse game was something I simply couldn't refuse.
All they asked was my cooperation. They'll handle the task of eliminating Jeremy and Ritchie. All I need to do is ensure that every civilian in Valley City dies alongside Jeremy and Ritchie.
Once this operation is complete, I'll gain even greater power. My level will increase by five, and I'll also obtain far more powerful weapons."
Kean's subordinate spoke with unwavering confidence, as though the plan was flawless.
The Mayor of Valley City's expression contorted in fury and disbelief.
"You actually intend to go through with this! I have nothing more to say to you! I'm going to contact Kean immediately—I want to see if he'll agree to this insane plan of yours!"
With those words, the Mayor turned and began to walk away, intent on contacting Kean.
But after only two steps, a tall and imposing apocalypse game player stepped into his path, blocking his way.
"Your Excellency, Mr. Mayor, I suggest you refrain from making any rash moves. My plan isn't complete yet. Until it succeeds, you are not permitted to take any other actions."
Kean's subordinate's voice came from behind the Mayor of Valley City.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
The Mayor turned around furiously, glaring at him with a venomous gaze.
"Even if you look at me like that, I won't change my mind. Your Excellency, you'd better stay put here and wait. The operation is about to conclude!"
With those words, Kean's subordinate turned and left without hesitation.
Although his plan had achieved significant success, Jeremy and Ritchie had not yet been completely eliminated.
Until those two were dealt with, Kean's subordinate couldn't afford to be careless.
"Your plan is destined to fail! Jeremy and Ritchie aren't that easy to take down! Besides, Major Joseph is there to help them," the Mayor muttered to himself.
However, even as he spoke, there was a lack of conviction in his voice. Deep down, he was merely hoping for such an outcome.
In the underground drainage system of Valley City, Major Joseph quickly figured out his current location.
He realized he was now in the second section of the drainage system.
Though this part of the system was relatively spacious, it was also exceedingly complex.
"I must reunite with Jeremy and Ritchie as soon as possible! There's no way they'll be able to figure out the layout of this drainage system on their own! If I don't find them soon, they're likely to get completely lost down here!"
Major Joseph was anxious, fully aware of the urgency of the situation.
He knew the three of them needed to regroup to stand a chance against any threats.
With that thought in mind, Major Joseph followed a massive drainage pipe leading forward.
This particular pipe connected the second section to the third, which was where Jeremy and Ritchie were currently located.
Meanwhile, Jeremy and Ritchie remained where they were, waiting cautiously.
Ritchie had set up a series of defenses around them using his shadow manipulation abilities, while Jeremy continued to use his The King of Time and Space talent to analyze the spatial structure of their surroundings.
"There's some kind of strange force interfering with me! I can't pinpoint our exact location! Maybe our only option is to push forward blindly using brute force," Jeremy said, his frustration evident.
"As long as we keep moving forward, we'll eventually reach the end of this drainage system! Once we get there, we'll head upward and find a safe place!" Jeremy voiced his plan confidently.
Ritchie nodded in agreement.
To Ritchie, any plan was better than staying where they were. Remaining stationary felt like the riskiest choice of all.
Even though they hadn't encountered any enemies recently, Ritchie could keenly sense that the shadows around them were shifting.
It felt as though some hidden creatures had surrounded them.
"Jeremy, I think we need to move immediately. There are enemies around us, hiding within the shadows. My abilities are being suppressed, and I can't determine their strength or numbers. I believe leaving now is the safest course of action," Ritchie warned.
Prompted by Ritchie's words, Jeremy sprang into action.
The two of them began making their way forward through one of the drainage pipes.
However, their decision to move inadvertently widened the distance between them and Major Joseph.
Meanwhile, as Jeremy and Ritchie ran, their movements created echoes that reached Major Joseph.
"I hear something ahead! Could it be Jeremy and Ritchie? I need to hurry and check!" Joseph quickened his pace, driven by urgency.
About fifteen minutes later, he finally caught sight of two figures ahead—Jeremy and Ritchie's silhouettes.
Joseph felt a wave of excitement, but his enthusiasm was quickly tempered by a strange observation: their figures appeared blurry and distorted.
He hesitated for a moment, unsure if he should call out to them.
After a brief pause to weigh his options, he finally shouted toward the two figures ahead:
"I'm behind you! Hurry up and regroup with me! I'll lead you out of here!"
Major Joseph's voice quickly reached the ears of Jeremy and Ritchie.
The two turned to look and indeed saw Major Joseph. But what they also saw were the numerous monsters surrounding him.
At that moment, there was no time for Jeremy and Ritchie to warn Joseph.
Jeremy made a swift decision. He activated his The King of Time and Space talent, opening a portal.
Jeremy stepped through the portal and appeared right beside Joseph. Without hesitation, he grabbed Joseph and pulled him to the side.
Joseph, caught off guard, didn't understand why Jeremy had acted so abruptly.
But in the next instant, everything became clear.
Two razor-sharp claws, entirely composed of black shadows, slashed through the spot where Joseph had just been standing.
Had Jeremy not pulled him aside, Joseph would have been torn to pieces by the monsters' vicious attack.
What do you think?
