Flashy Adventurer System : Show Off to Get Stronger!

Chapter 451 Nostalgia

An entire week has passed since the Valenzia Rookie Adventurer Competition began.

Although the initial excitement slightly mellowed down, the mundane folks, who had the privilege to live inside the city, the visitors, and the adventurers who were on the lower side in terms of rank still occasionally discussed who they thought would be crowned as the king of rookies.

"Hey, brother Luis, who do you think would win the competition? I think it would be Erwin Tycho from Egerson City."

"Hmmph! and you call yourself informed? When has Shye Crowley ever lost?"

"Hahahaha! These two idiots, discussing without knowing anything again. Stop arguing, the winner would surely be Verson Cruz from Gerville City."

Of course, the mithril and adamantite-ranked adventurers also discussed from time to time, however, only when they had nothing better to do.

Their interest in the competition was naturally lesser than others as they had other things to worry about, including their statuses.

They had to at least keep up an air of aloofness as they believed that they would look rather dumb should they act like everyone.

Meanwhile, back at the adventurer zone, Shye felt slightly uneasy.

It had already been a week, yet, there were still no clues regarding (A-) ranked monsters.

Additionally, he had only hunted four (B) ranked creatures, seven (B-) ranked ones, ten (C) ranked ones, and fifteen (C-) ranked ones.

Although such a result would probably stun the crowd silly on the competition's presentation day, Shye wasn't sure if it was enough to win against the three who were standing beside him at the frontmost part of the stage.

He was the one with the trashiest background among all of them, hence, it would be hard for him to estimate his opponents' current hunting progress.

After all, there was no way for him to know what kind of high-tier items they had in their arsenal.

There was also Damien, who was practically a prince of the renowned Martinez Adventurer Clan.

Naturally, Shye could leave them all in the dust, if the monstrous creatures didn't avoid him, that is.

It was getting harder and harder for him to find one.

At this rate, his opponents would catch up—or worse, overtake him!

'Tch, I have to do something…'

Or so Shye thought.

He didn't have to do a single thing from that moment onwards as before he could even move from his current location, his mana pulse detected something from the sky.

It was approaching him at mind-boggling speeds, triggering all sorts of dangerous alarms inside his head.

'Sh*t!'

He didn't even have time to look up since if he didn't get out of the way immediately, the flying creature would rip him to shreds.

*FWOOSH!*

Winds violently parted as the enormous creature swooped down on Shye, fortunately, he was able to dodge on time by performing a decisive dive and shoulder roll.

Then, immediately after, Shye turned his head and looked at the enormous creature that ambushed him.

As his gaze landed on the creature, Shye's eyes widened as unexplainable nostalgia battered his little heart.

He had met the creature before multiple times.

He had seen it lifeless and had once exchanged a few moves with its simulated counterpart, but this was the first time he encountered one alive—wild and free.

It was majestic.

For a few moments, Shye was mesmerized, and it took him about two seconds to snap out of his astonished state.

"Ember Wyvern!"Nôv(el)B\\jnn

*ROAR!*

The enormous draconian creature roared mightily at the sky, only turning around after three seconds, proudly displaying itself to its target.

It seemed to want its target to cower in fear while still admiring its majestic appearance.

Unfortunately for it, few people would be willing to risk their lives just to admire the appearance of a monstrous creature, no matter how pleasing it was.

Shye was naturally no exception.

Although he was among those who admired its beauty, he wasn't about to be with those who ended up inside the creature's stomach.

Realizing that the day when he was strong enough to encounter a live ember wyvern on his own had come, unexplainable pride welled in Shye's heart, and despite the current dangerous situation he was in, strangely, there was no fear in his heart, only eagerness to prove himself.

'Appraisal!'

"Let's fight then, draconian!"

'Fallen's Wings!'

Fearlessly charging straight towards the ember wyvern who had once again entered a swooping motion, a pair of blackish-transparent and rotting mana wings emerged from Shye's back, giving him the ability to momentarily stay in the air.

*FWOOSH!*

As the wyvern approached, Shye flapped his wings with just the right amount of strength, allowing him to dodge the wyvern's flaming maw and land on top of it.

It turned out to be quite the questionable idea, though, as the enormous draconian once more flew skywards, bringing the audacious human with it,

'SH*T!' Shye inwardly cursed, temporarily forgetting that he himself had wings.

Still, he knew that panicking wouldn't help him in the slightest, hence, Shye took one deep breath as he held on tight to one of the scaled spikes protruding out of the wyvern's head.

He then retrieved Adamance once more from the system's inventory, grasping it with a dagger grip before using it to stab at the ember wyvern's right eye.

*ROAR!*

Unfortunately, this was the first time Shye encountered a monstrous creature with high intelligence.

Therefore, he hadn't expected the Ember Wyvern to immediately recognize his attempt to blind it, allowing it to respond accordingly.

Recognizing that enduring physical damage with its naturally strong physique was preferable to allowing the audacious human to take one of its eyes, the Ember Wyvern willingly crashed into a sturdy, towering rock pillar.

As a result, Shye sustained some damage and eventually fell from the back of the wyvern's head, plummeting to the ground with a slightly battered body.

Luckily, Shye managed to barely flap his wings on time, softening the impact of his violent descent.

"F*ck…that hurt…so it's not gonna be that easy, huh?"
