Flashy Adventurer System : Show Off to Get Stronger!

Chapter 458 Delusional Dark Horse

"Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the recording of the renowned Martinez Adventurer Clan Leader's third son, Damien Martinez! Also a recent graduate of the prestigious Aslan Adventurer Academy and Shye Crowley's opponent in the grand finals of the Adventurer Academy Competition!"

After Bart's grand introduction, the people suddenly remembered that Damien, Shye's rival as an academy graduate, was also in the competition.

However, due to the fact that he was seeded below the four, he somehow faded into the background.

Who would've thought that Damien would be the dark horse this time around?

Rather ironic as Shye was the dark horse in the Adventurer Academy Competition.

In just a year, their positions were reversed.

Hearing his name called, Damien clenched his fists in excitement.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

If only he could see Shye's shocked and panicking expression, then everything would be perfect!

Unfortunately—or rather, fortunately—he couldn't see Shye's reaction.

Otherwise, he would be pulling his hair out in utter frustration as Shye had an apathetic and bored expression as he watched Damien's recording.

'Sigh…C- ranked creatures? Lame…'

It was indeed lame because, unlike the original recording, the event organizers ensured the battles were presented in order of ascending difficulty.

Naturally, the first few hunts would be boring, and Shye understood this.

He was simply venting his dislike for Damien, whom he utterly despised.

Soon enough though, the hunts got more intense and exciting, eliciting loud cheers from the crowd as Damien, a mere first-year rookie, fought heroically against (B-) ranked creatures.

He rarely took a step back and was always charging forward, narrowly dodging the monstrous creatures' attacks before viciously counterattacking to severe whatever limbs he could.

As a result, his recording was the most entertaining of the three that had already been played on the huge holographic screen, causing the other two to clench their fists in frustration.

They didn't care if he was from the Martinez Adventurer Clan.

If he dared talk shit to them, they would teach him a lesson.

Damien had no plans of doing such a thing, though, as all he ever wanted was to talk shit to Shye after defeating him and make sure that his heart would stay in the gutter for years.

Indulging in the glorious thunderous cheers of the crowd, the Aslan alumni clenched his fists in excitement.

'Heh, so this is the feeling of a successful dark horse? Not bad, not bad!'

He hadn't defeated Shye yet, but since he was now considered equal to the four, it could indeed be said that he was a successful dark horse.

Still, although happy, he wasn't satisfied yet.

It was as though it was just yesterday when he was defeated by Shye in the all-important grand finals between Colzen and Aslan—ace representative vs ace representative.

He would never be satisfied without seeing Shye's devastated expression.

As time passed, the contents of the recording grew even more exciting, ending with the spectacular scene of Damien ambushing the Crimson Vorper, smashing its head with an enormous hammer before fighting it to the death.

It was undeniable that he was slightly weaker than Jamal and Verson.

However, what he lacked in strength, he made up for with sheer bravery.

Even Shye, his rival, acknowledged that the arrogant and hateful bastard was indeed courageous.

Still, if this was Damien's best hunt, then it seemed that he was worried for nothing.

…After a few more minutes, Damien's recording ended.

However, in the end, instead of a satisfied expression, a confused one emerged on the Aslan alumni's face.

After thinking for a while, Damien knowingly smiled.

It seemed that the competition still had one final ace up their sleeves—one that would increase the liveliness to new heights.

With this arrangement, the Martinez Clan's young master felt even more excited, despite his recording already having played on the huge holographic screen.

However, after a while, he couldn't help but frown and narrow his eyes as he looked in the direction of Jamal and Verson's viewing stations, turning away and focusing on the holographic screen the next moment.

To keep things unpredictable, the event organizers mixed up the order of the recordings being played to avoid giving any hints about who won the competition.

As a result, Shye's recording was the next one shown on the huge holographic screen.

Again, the initial hunts were the lamest of the bunch, however, since the crowd was already used to it, their eyes remained glued to the holographic screen.

Well, there was not much to watch as Shye instantly killed each of the lower-ranked monsters on his hunting list.

Yet, to the mundane folks and low-ranked adventurers, he looked like some cold-blooded fiend who easily reaped the life of everything he came across.

Even the event organizers had trouble choosing which parts of his hunts to show on the compilation recording as he simply looked like the strongest out of everyone—by a long shot.

Well, it was clear to the event organizers who the winner was, especially after the horrified judge almost fainted on the spot after realizing what his opponent was in his best hunt.

However, despite such facts, the crafty organizers still found a way to make the competition appear cutthroat.

Only, they had to temporarily remove most of Shye's hunts.

As a result, the "best hunt" Shye had in the recording was when he slayed a (B) ranked creature in around ten moves as he was experimenting at that time, trying to accurately hit each vital spot before ending the poor monstrous creature's life.

If not for that one hunt, the event organizers might've already given up making everyone look evenly matched.

Naturally, Shye was utterly infuriated upon seeing that his recording ended in such a way.

Where was his glorious moment of slaying an Ember Wyvern?!

Luckily, before he made a mess of things, an event organizer's voice sounded inside his viewing station, begging for him to calm down and not worry as everything would be shown in a final compilation.

[Congratulations! You've earned 118,920 points!]

Taking a deep breath to calm his furious heart, Shye read the notification that had just popped up, which helped to improve his mood slightly.

'Fine…fine. I shall wait.'
