Chapter 145: Shadow sad past (b)

Chapter 145: Shadow sad past (b)

Master Yin Ye and Birdy nodded in agreement; However, Yin's eyes were twitching behind the purple-faced mask. He frowned in displeasure. That night, he was also there and fought against the experts of the church of light. He thought, 'I must correct him!'

"It's as your highness said. Although we had to retreat because the pope blessed by the God of light made his move before we killed the cardinal, Master Ze still managed to curse the cardinal mana pool. That's how enmity between us and the church started. Ever since that day, we have also been falsely accused as one of the top-notch evil of the continent. Moreover that day I also accompanied Master Ye and Master Ze in the battle against many experts," he clarified.

In response, the Dean's eyes blinked nonchalantly and he smiled due to happiness. Yin Ye was too irrelevant to the situation. He wasn't mentioned in the records about the event that occurred years ago. So, Frankenstein didn't know about him. That's why he was nonchalant. Also, he was a knowledge seeker, and understanding what actually happened in the past was a pleasant surprise to him.

"In a way, she has become a vessel of a being that will wreak havoc on the Central kingdom and the church of light. In the spirit world, it's common knowledge among the royals that the King spirit of Wrath hates the church of light and the god of light with a heart. However, I don't know what the exact reason is." he said to Yin with a smile.

His words caused Yin's eyes to turn. Master Yin didn't knew that the spirit king Wrath hates the kingdom of light. It was a hidden secret, after all. He wasn't surprised to know that the crown prince of flame knew about this. Frankenstein had somewhat a respectable position in the spirit world. So he was privy to such deep knowledge.

"Could it be the Cardinal saw this upcoming?" Yin Ye was far older than Frankenstein. He instantly understood why the cardinal wanted to kill Binghe unborn child.

"Yes. I am guessing that the Cardinal somehow peeked into the future and saw that the unborn daughter of Duka Williams will become Wrath vessel in the future. So he decided to kill her before she grows."

It's as he speculated but the cardinal wasn't sure of what he has mysteriously "Dreamt". That's why he could only announce that the child must die if it's born a girl. Thankfully, Binghe Ye fooled them all otherwise Whittaker's best friend, Shadow wouldn't be alive.

Her past was explained and the Dean was deciding what to do with her.

Looking at his thoughtful face, Yin Ye dropped to his knees and begged, "Laila has suffered a lot of hardship in her life. I hope that you, a fellow Twilight Walker will pity this child and let her stay in this academy. But I understand if you don't want her to stay and I will take her away."

Laila mostly led a sad life. Her father barely interacted with her. Her mother died when she was just a child. She couldn't make close friends otherwise, there was a chance of her truth being exposed. In her life, only six people knew about her truth. One of them was her dead mother.

Frankenstein gazed at the pitiful child with complicated emotions. Letting Laila stay in the Academy was offending the church of light. The Church of light is backed by the pope and the God of light. An almighty being that lives among the star. The God of light might not interfere in the matters of the mortal but the same can not be said for the pope, who is blessed by the God of light.

No one knows how strong the pope is but Frankenstein was sure that the pope of light at least has a domain. According to the secret network of the twilight spirit's, the pope of the church of light has created the domain of light. It was utilized only thrice so not many know of it. From the same record, it's said that the light domain allows the pope to sublime into particles of light, achieving a higher state of existence.

"The pope is extremely powerful and dangerous. He is bound to order the execution of this student if he ever finds out that Shadow is Laila, a girl. He will surely dispatch the templars to get hold of her and publicly execute her under the name of the god of light."

Frankenstein's words made sense and Yin Ye understood the trouble that Laila will bring to a lot of people if she remains in the academy. Hearing his words, Yin Ye was downcast. He thought that the Dean wants him to take Laila away from the Academy. He stood up and turned around to leave but Laila was no longer in his hand.

"Eh, where did she go?" His eyes wandered about to locate her and he noticed that she was back in Frankenstein's embrace.

"Your highness?" He asked dumbfoundedly, unable to understand what Laila was doing there.

To clear his confusion, the Dean replied with a smile,

"Although she might bring a lot of trouble, it's only a possibility. As long as we hide the truth well enough, no trouble will come. Plus, she's a student of this academy and we are responsible for her safety and life. For now, I will try my best to hide her truth and I hope you guys will do the same. Plus, make your guild occasionally cause trouble for the church of light to avert attention on this matter!"

"Sure!" Master Yin Ye gladly agreed and went away.

Laila, on the other hand, was placed on the bed of her boarding room, courtesy of the gentleman in a wedding suit.

"Rest well, Laila. Life's hard but even those who live in the hardest of conditions strive to live on," Before leaving the room, the golden-haired handsome man said these words for her to hear.

Laila had woken up but she was pretending to be unconscious. Plus, she heard most of the talk between him and her grandfather.

Her eyes opened as the door slowly closed and she said,

"Call me Shadow,"

Frankenstein didn't reply. He just proceeded to close the door.

Click! The door closed, leaving Shadow in the most comfortable place of her life. Since no one was near, she didn't need to put an act of being stone-hearted any longer.

Drip! Drop!

Tears streamed down from the corners of her eyes, falling on the blanket whose mellow edges were gripped in her hands.

After so many years, she cried. Then she remembered her mother's last words. The words muttered when she and Laila laid in a puddle of their own blood, life slowly slipping by from their eyes.

Binhe said at the end of her life, "There are many bad peoples and some good ones. We were unlucky to only encounter the bad ones but don't let hatred cloud your heart. One day, I'm sure, you will meet a good person. Live on, my daughter, I wish you won't let hatred cloud your soul,"

Laila looked out the window, towards the stars glittering in the clouded night skies.

"Mom, I was lucky enough to meet some good persons, one's a little bit too innocent." A smile formed on her face as she talked to her mother.

"But I am sorry. I can't fulfill your last wish,"

Saying so she laid down on her bed and closed her eyes.

The star shined brightly in the skies. Their twinkle couldn't be supppressed by the clouds. Similarly, the moon was also shining, along with the stars. Their shine lit up the night of the awakened continent.

Peoples danced in joy while the festival slowly came to an end. Whereas, some just slept through it.

After so many years, Laila slept without feeling burdened. The hatred in her heart had lessened somewhat because of a good person. But someone still needed to pull her out from the clutches of Wrath. Help her break the endless cycle of revenge. Who will it be, the one who would be willing to stand by her side, even if it means becoming the enemy of the entire world!

-----

"Yawn~" Somewhere far away, a boy with a head full of snow-like hair woke up. He had missed the Full Moon festival for sleep was far more important.
