Chapter 187: The Sick RedCliff City Lord (a)

When Whittaker and the others could see the entrance of RedCliff city, it was already late night. The moon shone brightly in the clouded night skies while darkness permeated each corner of the world. However, one could still see an array of white lights twinkling in the ground below.

By using Devansha vision, he could see that from the entrance to the street, the darkness in the RedCliff City was entirely lit up in white lights by Light Orbs. While guards dressed in heavy armor and holding powerful weapons stood attentively before the entrance walls of the city. The Redcliff city was surrounded defensively on all four sides by towering walls.

Plus, powerful war type magic construct were erected upon and behind the city towering walls. Wave blasters, mana shooters, laser beams, and even area-wide blasters were placed on the top of the wall. Whittaker had seen them before in books and Elder Zachary palace but now he was surprised to see them in RedCliff City.

Its wonder is matched by the backdrop of a lush forest with towering trees and the Grand Canyon was also to the north of the city. It's the place where the boss of the tenth floor resides. The teleporter connected to the eleventh floor is also there.

Whittaker thought, 'However, to access it, I was a ruler and contestant needs to first kill the floor boss.'

Considering the fact he was on the tenth floor, this city was really top-notch in its defensive set-up. The Monster tower was filled with monsters and the same goes for the tenth floor. However, he felt that even no matter how many waves of magical beast attack the city, they won't be able to even break through the entrance of the city.

"Even the King of Sand won't be powerful enough to break the city defense and enter it wantonly to cause destruction," Whittaker was impressed by the city defensive system. 'Seems like the city master is a powerful and rich person,' he concluded. All these items cost a lot, after all.

"Impressive, isn't it? My father set it all up when he descended from the above floor and married mom. He was an outsider just like you," Jin said after he found out that the young expert he admired was impressed by their city's defensive system.

"What's the need of so much defense. The tenth floor doesn't have a monster stronger than E-rank. Only King eighteen had reached D-rank. Isn't this much defense just going overboard," Whittaker said. Although he was impressed, he also felt that this was wasteful.

"This much defense is necessary. Without these weapons, this human establishment would have fallen long ago. The RedCliff City is surrounded by enemies on all sides. To its north is the Grand Canyon. To its south is the Scorpion-Kin desert. To its west and east are greenery filled with magical beast. All of them are a threat that looms over our city and wants to consume it. Before death, father set this up to protect the city from harm and mom has been making sure that everything remains the same," Fiorin replied.

She was the daughter of the current city master and had been taught about geography, war tactics, magic since a young age. This much knowledge was something expected out of her.

"I'm sorry for your loss," Learning that her father was dead, Whittaker said. Plus, after she explained the various threat surrounding the Redcliff city, Whittaker understood why so much defense is necessary. Now, he didn't feel like it's wasteful.

"Don't be. He was a hero who died with a smile on his face," Jin said remembering about his mysterious father.

Their father was a mysterious person and they didn't know much about him. Except for the fact that he descended from above and was very rich, powerful and fell in love with their mother, at first sight, there wasn't any other information about Lord Azur.

As the journey continued and they reached somewhat near the city, uncle Azan said,

"Young expert, it would be better if you recall your King of Sand in the soul space otherwise the city guard would be startled and misfire in nervousness,"

His words weren't wrong. The King of Sand had a threatening presence. Furthermore, humans instinctively hold bias against savage magical beast. At the mere sight of the king of sand, they might charge up their powerful weapons and fire at them.

"Sure, let's get off its back first," Whittaker headed Uncle Azan's advice. He didn't feel like getting into trouble. Moreover, if he could evade possible trouble by just putting King eighteen inside his soul space then what's the problem?

They jumped off its back and landed on the ground.

"Good work, King Eighteen. Now you can rest in my soul space and don't bully Wolfie and treat it like a little brother," Whittaker patted the beast and thought of recalling it into his soul space.

With a puff, the huge beast vanished from the physical world and appeared in the soul space.

The rest of the journey, they easily covered on foot. They took the winding trail in the middle that connected to the entrance gate of the city. It was smooth with not many bumps.

Since it was night, barely anyone was walking on the same path. However, they still came across some adventurers who were returning after hunting magical beasts in the nearby forest.

Walking for dozens of minutes, they reached near the entrance gate. The guards at the entrance looked at them and a respectful expression instantly appeared on their faces.

"Welcome Butler Azan, Young Lord Jin, Princess Fiorin," At the entrance, Whittaker saw how the guards greeted his companions respectfully.

It was already clear that Jin, Azan, and Fiorin belonged to the Azur family and Whittaker had already determined it. Although he was surprised that these three didn't put on airs like most nobles. 'They are just like Shadow. Although noble blood runs through their veins, they still act humble and aren't pretentious. Furthermore, they were willing to take the risk of saving their mother when everyone refused to. They are good people!"

Whittaker made his judgment about them before they were led inside the city by the head guard respectfully.

"It's already late night. Life Taker, if you don't mind then you can stay in our home for tonight." They offered him an invitation to stay in their house as a guest.
