Chapter 197: Contestant killers.

Chapter 197: Contestant killers.

Some moment after he had entered the Grand Canyon, Whittaker spotted six people fighting with all they got. They were fighting inside the ravine and were very far away from him. They were aiming for each other lives and attacked without holding back. By using Devansha's vision, he could clearly see that three of them were at a wide disadvantage and were being pushed into a corner.

"Ah! Red name contestant. Looks like I'll be able to complete the mission soon. The drops are surprisingly decent." Whittaker cackled a hunter laugh while hiding far off in the distance. He wasn't noticed by them as he was hiding in plain sight by using the invisibility talisman. Plus, he was very far away and not everyone has powerful vision abilities.

Among the six, three had their name marked red while the other three contestants' name glowed in green. The red name signifies a contestant killer while the green name signifies crime-free contestants.

The three red name contestants were equally powerful: a rank-D sword user, a rank-D spear user, and a rank-D mage.

If a contestant with their name marked in red like these three were to be killed, then multiple pieces of equipment on their body would drop. The deeper the red color, the more things they'll drop. This was the risk that came with hunting other contestants.

Furthermore, the colors of their name were bright scarlet. These three will drop all their equipment upon death. Moreover, the equipment these three awakened donned didn't look half-bad. The swordsman wore a D-rank gauntlets gown that amplified the powers behind his fiery slash. The spear user was using some type of gloves that boost the power of thrust attacks by 200%. The mage was wearing multiple mana recovery accessories.

"Everything they equipped would become my possession after I kill them!" Whittaker made his way down the cliff to kill them. However, he was very far and he couldn't make a rush for it otherwise, he would be detected before he even reaches them.

He had no thoughts of providing help to the other contestants. First of all, they were strangers. Secondly, they won't actually die even if they are killed. Lastly, if he moves faster than his current speed then the three contestant killer will notice him even though he was using an invisibility talisman. That's why he continued at his own pace.

"Ragna, close in for the kill!" The swordsman, Eliot shouted with a booming voice then rushed forward and cleaved down with the sword held in his hands.

[Fiery Wind Surge Slash!] He exclaimed and a powerful fiery wave rushed out of the sword and went straight towards Jacob.

"Damn, I won't be able to dodge this!" Jacob pulled back a bit but stopped. As right behind him, Sophia stood. If he evaded the attack then Sophia will surely die. Thus, he raised his shield to defend against the incoming blow.

"Bang!" A resounding reverberation was heard as the fiery slash blasted the round shield and crashed on Jacob.

Kuah! Jacob got blasted away and crashed on the rocky cliff. He dropped to the group and breathed his last. His body blurred and vanished, leaving behind a Battle Light and a piece of equipment.

Ranga, on the other hand, took this opportunity to rush straight at his opponent and thrust his spear.

Peng! Klang!! Klang!!!

Each time Ranga thrust his spear, it shot out an amplified wind blast. Although Faroz was able to deflect some of them with his sword, most still pierced his body.

"Weak chicken," By the time Ranga was done, his opponent was bleeding from multiple places.

In the very next moment, Faroz dropped to his knees with lifeless eyes. Just like Jacob, his body blurred and vanished, leaving behind Battle light and a piece of equipment.

Whereas, the leader of the group, mage Logan kept the teary-eyed mage, Sophia busy with endless [FLAME BALLS!]

"Boss, we are done with our opponents, how about you stop playing and kill her," Ranga and Eliot shouted while picking up the equipment and storing them in their spatial rings.

"Sure," Logan shouted before a murderous frenzy took over his eyes.

"Little beauty, play times over!" His words sounded like a devil whisper in Sophia's ears and fear took over her soul. Before she could do anything, Logan shouted.

[Binding chains!]

At the very moment, multiple black chains shot out from his spellbook. As a mage, she wasn't good at running nor did she trained her body physically. Evading the chains was a distant dream and an impossible feat to achieve for a mage like her.

Although she used the spell [Barrier of Light], the dark chains burning with a cursive aura instantly shattered the golden shield and wrapped around her limbs.

"Why can't I feel my mana?" The moment the chains binding her, Sophia could no longer utilize her mana.

"Resistance is futile, my spell has a unique effect of sealing a mage's mana pool. And it's extremely effective on a weakling like you," Logan said with a taunting smile.

The Binding Chain spell had multiple categories. [Binding chains: Sealing mana] was just one of its types.

"Please don't kill me," she begged with tears streaming down her face.

"I won't..." He said. Sophia felt relieved before she heard him saying, "At least not before using this."

Logan walked up to her and stuffed a piece of paper in her mouth. This was the equipment extraction magical paper, an item especially created in the Monster Tower. By using this piece of paper, a person will drop all his equipment upon death.

"Now if I kill you, you will drop every single piece of equipment!" He said with a burst of eerie laughter and continued by chanting, [Binding Chains: Flames of Torment!]

"Gahhhhh!" Sophia shouted in pain as the chains ignited and a fiery blaze enveloped her whole. In mere seconds, her shouts died down as she was burned to death.

Ting! Ting! Ting! All of her equipment dropped on the ground. There was also a mana light which Logan absorbed. Whereas, the battle lights were absorbed by Eliot and Ragna.

Once a human contestant is killed, they drop mana light or battle light. Mana light can be used to permanently increase mana and battle light can be used to gain a permanent increase in battle energy.

"God Damn! These weak bastards dropped a lot of good equipment. We have been really lucky today," Ranga said in a rough roguish tone.

"Yeah, we gained a lot of profit from this. Each of those three we killed dropped a piece of equipment," Eliot said in agreement.

"Especially the beauty, she dropped five D-ranked equipment. They are probably some rich youngster that thought of making a name for themselves by using their daddies' money." Logan said with a laugh, and he continued by saying, "We have hunted enough. We should absorb the purifying moon drop to cleanse our red name,"

"Yes, boss," The three contestant killers pulled out a jade bottle with silver liquid inside and drank it.

The Purifying Moon drop was a famous item amongst contestant killers. It was used to clear their red name for twelve hours. The contestant with red names can't enter the city or town. That's why they use this item as it reverts their names to green at midnight for twelve hours.

"The red mark on our name is going to disappear by tonight. I can't wait to enter the nearby city and sell these items," Logan excitedly chatted with his teammates.

"Boss, we share the same thoughts," his teammates said.

Although they were all smiling, fate didn't seem to share the same thought like them.

There's a problem every contestant killer faces. As long as they get killed by someone before their red name disappears, then they'll drop a lot or all of their equipment.

Currently, death was upon them as Life Taker sneaked his way near them!
