I Became A System

Chapter 116 - Separate Quests

Selena started sharing her story and about how her brother, Uno, disappeared 10 years ago.

When they were just playing outside, a sudden call from the adventurers' guild alarmed the city, and the reason was? Infiltration. Some groups kidnap children and people for unknown reasons.

That's her story.

And the other parts, like how they were close and she was just too shocked to hear it from Ellena, were bullshit to me.

Call me heartless, but insignificant information doesn't pique my interest.

Nevertheless, I don't have a choice but to hear it. But I didn't just pay attention to it as it was just too... How should I say this? far too... common

People in this world live in chaos, and peace is just temporary.

There might be righteous people, but they don't last. Sometimes, villains are born twice as often as heroes.

That's the bullshit in that matter, thus, I didn't pay attention to it.

Clearly, even if Ellena tries her best, she can't clean this world with her destiny. She is destined to save the world from demons, not from humans themselves.

What I must focus on right now is making her stronger and safer. But how? Selena said the clue, the kidnappers.

They might be connected to the group that wanted to kill Ellena. What did I hear from the ambusher? There was a client. But somehow, I think... their leader would forget about the client and would eagerly kill Ellena since their pride was trampled.

You see, criminals have pride, and this huge group working in the shadows? They're more prideful than normal organizations.

And since Ellena made them taste defeat, they clearly wanted her to die at their own hands, as proof that no prey can escape them.

So... what's in my mind are two major threats. First was the mysterious client that wanted Ellena dead. I think more appropriate terms would be 'the most individual that is threatened by Noelle's existence'. So, I deduce that he or she might just be in the field of adventuring. But I'm still unsure.

Second, the mysterious organization. As I said, they would want to kill her without the urge from the client. Thus, we also need to prepare for them.

And just for the last one that I don't think is a major threat - Hubert Lumbert. It's just, he might be connected to demons as one of the incarnations of sins. So he falls into the category of Ellena's destiny.

But when will the demons be publicized and will they turn into a major global threat? Well... it will happen in just the next 4 years. When Ellena is finally 21 years old. And in her previous timeline, she'd just graduated from the Royal Academy.

As things settled down, a bitter smile curled up on Selena's lips. Her sad eyes were still there, but she was keeping her emotion settled.

"Hey. Why don't we take a quest together?" Selena asked out of nowhere.

"Quest? Hm..." Ellena acted like she was thinking, but in reality, she was asking me.

'Should we go for a quest together? Isn't it going to be problematic if I show them my guild card? I mean, I am Noelle at the same time, so maybe that group can track me here.'

That was her concern. I see... she's really thoughtful. And if I think of it, I think we should use her alias identity.

In this case, if someone can track her here back in Azmar, they can't attack here immediately since Ellena will leave the town before they can get any intel.

So, if we must have a quest with Selena, it must be separated. In that way, Selena can't be involved with 'Noelle'.

"If you like to have a quest with Selena, be sure to have a separate quest with her. She can't be involved with your matters, right?"

A smile emerged on Ellena's face as she faced Selena. "Let's go. But let's separate them one at a time, for your safety."

Selena became confused, but not too much. She raised her eyebrow and asked Ellena's remark.

"Safety? What do you mean?"

"Well, I became a noble, right? So, there might be people who want to exploit my weaknesses, so maybe you get to be involved in my matters. Let's only take separate quests on paper, but not in actual quests, okay? "

Selena nodded as she understood what Ellena just said. She wiped her residual tears and stood up with Ellena.

"But first, let's have lunch."

***

Ellena and Selena went on a quest, a subjugation quest to be precise. It is located near a village and just a few kilometers away from the town. And since Thalia couldn't come if she was not an adventurer, she was recorded as a slave for 'Noelle'.

Selena was puzzled and confused by Ellena's alias as if it was just too strange for her to have an alias.

"Do nobles need to have an alias?" Selena asked while they were on the way to the location.

"Not really. Just my personal matters. Someone tried to kill me and one of the people was your brother."

"Ah..." Selena paused for a moment. "I see... Then, if ever my brother remembers me, I'll be sure to not tell about your alias. Even if he came to find me, I wouldn't get near him."

"Why? He's your brother, right? Don't you miss him?" Ellena asked.

"Well, I miss him. But not to the point that I'll embrace his new identity. I'm just being practical, even though it would make me a stone heart."

"I understand."

Without noticing it, they had already arrived at the location while having their talk.

Thalia was just behind them, silent, but I think she's already used to it. She is just timid and doesn't really like to talk.

"We're here," Ellena remarked, then pointed to a village from afar. Just below the slope of the location, we were at the top.

From up here, I can see the village. It was just a normal village. Houses and villagers are just living there. And it made me wonder if the city or the town was maybe a hard thing for them?

I mean, I can understand them since it's too bothersome to talk with other people.

Right? Or... was it because of the tax?

"Let's find some Algae Lizards," Selena said.

Algae Lizards are green lizard monsters, but their size is just too massive to be considered a crocodile.

They have smooth green skin and dark eyes.

Ellena nodded and they started to locate some Algae Lizards. On the way, there were different monsters, but they were just below the league of D-rank monsters. And as they found some, they killed 4 kobolds.

"Thalia, just stay in the back." Ellena reminded Thalia.

Thalia nodded and intently watched their movements.
