I Became the Best Forensic Doctor After My Betrayal

Chapter 55 - 55 Interrogation

55 Interrogation

The men that Wu Zheng sent out quickly brought Chen Ke back to the interrogation room.

Shen Yin was only a forensic pathologist and had no right to participate in the interrogation. She could only stare at the screen in the surveillance room and watch the process.

Meng Heng took out his notebook and asked with a serious expression, “Lu Feng once saw a psychiatrist. Do you and Lin Hui know about this?”

Chen Ke shook his head decisively. “This child has always been taciturn and doesn’t like to talk. His mother and I have been married for two years, but he refuses to call me Dad. I know very little about this child.”

Meng Heng twirled the pen in his hand and looked up to ask casually, “Your wife, Lin Hui, transfers money to Lu Feng every month for him to see a doctor. Surely you know about that?”

Chen Ke kept shaking his head as if he did not know anything. “My wife is in charge of our family’s money. I’m don’t ask about such things. Besides, Lu Feng hasn’t graduated yet. There’s nothing odd about his mother transferring money to him.”

“Looks like you’re a good father.” Meng Heng chuckled as he made notes. Then he asked, “Did you know that Lu Feng has a girlfriend?”

This time, Chen Ke was not in a hurry to shake his head. The camera showed that he was clearly stunned for a moment, and his eyes grew dull. When he met Meng Heng’s sharp eyes, he suddenly collected his wits.

He shook his head. “Like I said, the boy wouldn’t say anything to me. I certainly don’t know anything about him having a girlfriend.”

Meng Heng changed the subject and avoided the topic of Lu Feng. Instead, he looked relaxed and said conversationally, “Lu Feng was brutally murdered. You and Lin Hui must be very sad. However, no matter how sad you are, you have to move forward. Now that the two of you have no children, do you plan to have another child?”

Chen Ke rubbed his hands and seemed a little embarrassed. “This… We’re not in a hurry to have a child. Lu Feng has just passed away and the murderer hasn’t even been caught yet. We don’t have any plans right now.”

Meng Heng nodded and prepared to walk out of the interrogation room with the transcript.

Chen Ke was still seated. He asked in a panic, “Officer, I’ve already answered all your questions. When can I go?”

Meng Heng turned his head and replied indifferently, “There’s no hurry. You will naturally be allowed to go after we’ve investigated the matter thoroughly.”

Meng Heng entered the surveillance room and stood beside Shen Yin, watching another screen which showed Wu Zheng’s interrogation of Lin Hui.

Wu Zheng reached out to pour a glass of water for this weak and frightened woman. “We deeply regret Lu Feng’s death. Don’t worry, we will definitely find the murderer and uncover the truth.”

Lin Hui trembled as she clutched the cup and asked worriedly, “Why are you separately interrogating Old Chen and I? Did Old Chen do something wrong?”

Wu Zheng raised his eyebrows. “Your husband is an honest, ordinary worker. What might he have done wrong?”

Lin Hui smiled awkwardly. “I’m just worried. Now that Xiao Feng is gone, Old Chen is the only person I can rely on.”

Wu Zheng did not answer her question. Instead, he asked about Lu Feng’s situation. “Your son had serious psychological problems. Did you know about that?”

“I didn’t know. He’s an introvert. What psychological problems could he have?” Lin Hui looked at Wu Zheng in confusion. “Is that related to my son’s death?”

“You only need to answer my questions. You don’t have to ask the police questions.”

Wu Zheng said indifferently, “Lu Feng spent a large sum of money on therapy when he was alive, and this money was provided by you. Surely you knew what he’s was using it for?”

Lin Hui stammered and explained, “Didn’t he have a girlfriend? I thought he needed to buy things for his girlfriend, so I transferred money to him. You know, our family is just an ordinary family. We can’t afford anything nice, but we’ll try our best to give whatever we can to our child.”

Wu Zheng frowned. “Have you met Lu Feng’s girlfriend?”

“No.” Lin Hui shook her head. “Xiao Feng refused to tell me much about her. Perhaps he was afraid that I wouldn’t approve. But he was already an adult. Surely I can’t control him like I would a child? He just took things too seriously.”

“Are you on good terms with your husband?” Wu Zheng changed the topic, catching Lin Hui off guard.

She nodded hesitantly. “Old Chen treats me very well. I’m a divorcée with a son. He’s not very capable, but he’s never looked down on me. He even treated Xiao Feng like his own son.”

Wu Zheng stood up with a smile. “Please wait here for a moment. If there are no more problems, we will get a police officer to send you back.”

He pushed open the door of the interrogation room, and the smile on his face instantly disappeared.
