Chapter 102 Removing The Corruption

System Notification:

- [Access Granted to the Final Floor: The Throne Swordking's Throne Room.]

- [ Door Closes In 1 Minute.]

The massive throne room was an architectural display of ancient grandeur, stretching into the shadows above and beyond.

Towering marble columns flanked the walkway leading to a colossal, obsidian throne adorned with spectral blue flames.

A malevolent wind blew across the place as the room exuded an oppressive aura that made their steps feel heavier.

As the group cautiously approached, the figure seated on the throne sat motionless with his head bowed. A massive greatsword rested against the armrest and its blade seemed to be etched with runes that pulsed with corruption.

Behind them, the massive doors groaned as they closed. The heavy boom of them locking echoed through the chamber, sealing them inside.

Unbeknownst to the group, Drakos had slipped through just before they shut completely, hiding in the shadows with a wicked grin as he observed the scene.

The group halted several meters away from the throne. For a moment, there was only silence.

Then, the figure seated atop the throne stirred. Slowly, he raised his head, revealing a face etched with sorrow and rage.

It was the Ancient Swordking...

His glowing crimson eyes pierced through the surroundings, radiating with corruption.

"Why have you come here?" His voice reverberated through the chamber like thunder. "Do you seek my legacy... or do you seek the root of my corruption?"

The Swordking's deep and powerful gaze swept over them. The oppressive weight in the room grew heavier, forcing some of them to their knees.

- [ Save the Ancient Swordking from Corruption ]

The options flashed before everyone's eyes. A tense silence followed as they each weighed their decision.

"Legacy," the solo player muttered almost immediately, selecting the first option without hesitation.

His voice was devoid of doubt as he fixed his eyes on the Swordking. He was here for one thing alone... To make sure the fruit didn't fall into anyone's hands so this was the only option.

Gareth being the warrior of the group clenched his fists. "I'm with him. A legacy like this... it's once in a lifetime." He chose the first option as well.

One by one, the others followed suit. Drask, Torin, Lilo, Boris, and even Viora selected the first option, driven by the promise of unparalleled rewards.

Only Aria hesitated. She glanced at August, who was quietly staring at the Swordking. "August, which did you pick?"

"I chose to save him," August said without looking at her... "Don't ask me why... We're still gonna fight over the loot later regardless but I think I've acquired plenty on the way down."

Aria nodded. "What if we need to deal with the corruption to clear the dungeon? We might not even be able to leave unless we do." She sighed, then selected the second option. "I'll back you up."

The moment the selections were finalized, the Swordking rose from his throne. His figure towered over them as his corrupted aura spilled across the room like a tidal wave. He reached for his greatsword and lifted it with ease.

"Let the test begin!" he bellowed.

System Notification:

[ Final Boss Battle: The Corrupted Ancient Swordking (Level 97) ]

- [ Note: The Swordking will attack players who chose to obtain his legacy. ]

- [ Current HP: 120,000 ]

"Wait, what?!" Gareth's voice cracked as the realization hit. "He's only targeting us?!"

"And he's level 97? We're so dead!" Torin yelled in despair.

The Swordking's eyes burned with vengeance as he scanned the eight players who had chosen his legacy. "I see you now... You who conspired against my daughter. You will pay for your treachery!"

The room shook as he unsheathed his greatsword. The sheer weight of his power caused cracks to form on the marble floor beneath him. Without warning, he dashed forward with an unprecedented speed while swinging his sword in a deadly arc.

"Scatter!" Drask roared while diving out of the way as the Swordking's sword cleaved through the air. The impact created a shockwave that hurled players across the room.

System Notification:

[ Lilo has taken 4,000 HP damage. ]

[ Torin has taken 4,000 HP damage. ]

[ Gareth has taken 3,500 HP damage. ]

Lilo groaned, scrambling to her feet. "This is insane! His attack didn't even make direct contact!"

Gareth slashed at the Swordking with his blade, but the attack only took off 1 HP from the boss's massive health bar. "What the hell?! We'll be here for a week!"

"His defense is unreal!" Lilo cried while firing arrows at him. The projectiles bounced off harmlessly. "Even my piercing shots aren't working!"

Boris found an opponent and hacked his Axe into the Swordking's side but it was utterly useless, taking only 1HP damage once more.

The Swordking swung his blade again, forcing them to dodge frantically. Viora's healing spells kept them alive, but her mana was depleting rapidly with how much HP they were losing.

The solo player remained calm, observing the chaos. Finally, he sighed and unsheathed the Crimson Doomblade strapped to his back. "Amateurs," he muttered while stepping forward.

With a flick of his wrist, he activated a spell. "Anti-Gravity Slash."

The Swordking turned his burning gaze toward the solo player. "You... You dare defy me?!"

The solo player didn't respond, instead activating another ability. "Crimson Devastation."

A torrent of crimson energy exploded from his blade as he swung towards the Swordking, cutting into him slightly.

For the first time, the boss staggered.

"Finally! Some actual damage!" Drask shouted as his face lit up with hope.

But the Swordking roared, unleashing a wave of dark energy that knocked everyone backward.

---

System Notification:

[ Dark Vengeance Activated ]

- [ All players have taken 10,000 HP damage. ]

---

"Holy crap!" Boris yelled, barely surviving. "We're all gonna die here!"

Meanwhile, August and Aria stood to the side, watching the chaos unfold. The Swordking hadn't targeted them at all, allowing them to remain unscathed.

"Looks like he doesn't see us at all," Aria said quietly.

"Well, that's because we were given another task..." August replied with a look of urgency.

For the eight players who had chosen his legacy, survival was becoming increasingly unlikely.

"And we have to focus on ours if we intend to save them," August added.

With all that being said, Aria and August turned toward the west and sped forward.

They soon arrived at a corridor leading to the Throneroom vault which was where they were instructed to go.

August and Aria hurried forward. Both knew that their task could be the turning point, not just for their party but for the entire dungeon.

System Notification:

[ Task Initiated: Seal the Source of Corruption Located Within The Throneroom Vault ]

The massive vault doors stood before them glowing faintly with an eerie red hue. With a groan, the doors slid open, revealing a treasure-filled chamber that gleamed with gold, gemstones, and relics.

At the center, a pulsating beacon stood, drawing its power from a dark, floating fruit. The Fruit of Sin hovered ominously, emanating waves of malevolence. Its dark surface shimmered, seemingly alive, as if aware of their presence.

August and Aria stared at it with looks of awe.

"This is it," Aria whispered. "The source of the corruption."

"How do we seal it?" August questioned while stepping cautiously toward the beacon.

"Maybe we just... try to get it off?" Aria suggested with uncertainty in her voice.

She moved closer, but the moment she neared the beacon, a sharp pain shot through her body. Her screen flashed red.

---

System Notification:

[ Warning: Corruption Status Increasing ]

- Corruption Level: 15%

Aria stumbled back, clutching her side. "I can't get close. The corruption is too strong."

August hesitated for a moment before stepping forward. To his surprise, he felt nothing as he approached the beacon. He turned back to Aria. "I think my title is protecting me. I can do this."

"Be careful," Aria urged with a troubled look.

August reached out and tried to grab the Fruit of Sin but it didn't budge. It was cold to the touch, almost as if it was draining the warmth from his body.

He kept trying to pull it away but to no avail.

A system notification suddenly appeared.

---

System Notification:

August then proceeded to place his second palm on the fruit and a progress bar appeared in his vision, slowly ticking upward. "It's working!" he called out to Aria.

But before he could finish the sentence, a guttural roar echoed through the chamber. Two grotesque figures materialized from the shadows near the beacon.

They were monstrous, with elongated limbs, blackened, cracked skin, and hollow eyes that glowed faintly red.

"I'm required to keep both hands on!" August yelled from up ahead.

Aria immediately sprang into action, summoning her staff and firing a barrage of spells. "I've got this! Just keep your hands on that fruit!"n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

One of the Dark Guardians lunged at August while swiping its claws.

Before the dark claws could graze August's skin, Aria's Fireball intercepted it mid-strike, exploding against its torso and sending it stumbling back.

The process immediately stopped.

He groaned and fired a lightning bolt at the creature.

The blue electric arc struck the dark being, sending it flying backward.

"Aria!" he yelled. "Focus on both of them! I can't afford to keep taking hits like that!"

He swiftly placed both palms back on the fruit, causing the process of removal to begin all over again.

"Doing my best here!" Aria shouted back while casting Arcane Barrage a concentrated stream of magic aimed at both guardians. The spells hit their mark, but the monsters showed no signs of slowing.

Meanwhile, the progress bar on August's screen had reached 50%. "Halfway there! Keep it up, Aria!"

"I'd appreciate some backup magic right about now!" Aria quipped while casting a shield to block a sweeping claw from the other guardian.

"I'll pass!" August shot back, focusing intently on keeping his palms steady on the Fruit of Sin.

The guardian who attacked August earlier shifted its attention to Aria, slamming its clawed hand into her side.
