Chapter 702: 702: Rejection
Chapter 702: Chapter 702: Rejection
Can I leave the game now?
Song Jian was taken aback. Unaware, six months had passed in the game. This stirred up a sense of nostalgia in him. After hesitating for a moment, Song Jian chose to leave the game.
Before his eyes, he found out that instead of entering a virtual space for mission conclusion, he had returned directly to the real world.
“It appears that those so-called initial missions were merely benefits from the newbie period, only to aid players in adapting to the game world!” murmured Song Jian.
“You finally came out!” A voice suddenly echoed in the room.
It was the middle of the night. The room was shrouded in darkness. Song Jian had just exited the game and his mind was caught in a momentary lapse. Otherwise, with his first level combat power, he wouldn’t have missed another presence in his room.
After leaving the game world, almost all the equipment couldn’t be brought out, but the Crimson Fire Heart Ape Sword and the Book of the Abyss integrated into his body could enter the real world with him.
Add to that, Song Jian had completed the first-level combat power assessment mission. The added attributes had made him capable of exhibiting seventy to eighty percent of his in-game strength in the real world.
Before, Song Jian was somewhat afraid that the large-scale city-wide arrest would pose a threat to him. But now, unless a nuclear bomb was used to wipe out his entire city, his current strength left him fearless of any threat from the real world.
“Councilor Wang?” Song Jian squinted his eyes, as an image of a glasses-wearing military officer flashed across his mind.
After the rapid enhancement of his spiritual properties, Song Jian’s memory power had greatly strengthened. He could instantly recall any incident that had occurred or any person he had met.
Although he could only see the silhouette of the man in the darkness of the night without discerning any facial features, Song Jian was familiar with the man’s voice.
When he was in level twenty-plus, Song Jian had obtained a Holy Flame Pearl, the key to unlocking the Frost Cave instance. He had once encountered a group of soldiers while going to the Frost Cave. Councilor Wang was one of them.
“Unexpectedly, you still remember me!” Wang Zi was surprised. He had only met Song Jian once and didn’t expect that Song Jian would recognize him so soon after only uttering a sentence.
“Your strength is higher than we estimated!” Wang Zi turned on the room light, looked at Song Jian, and said enigmatically.
“What is the reason for Councilor Wang visiting me so late at night?” Song Jian asked, taking a seat at the couch in front of Wang Zi.
His senses spread around like quicksilver, and he found out that all his neighbors were gone. In their stead were countless soldiers armed with guns, surrounding the place.
By only looking at the numbers, there were probably more than five hundred soldiers. This made Song Jian a little surprised. This kind of manpower, just for him, was quite overwhelming.
And that was only within his sensing range. He didn’t know how many more were beyond that.
“Mr. Song, what do you think about our last proposal?” Wang Zi asked with a smile.
Song Jian glanced at Wang Zi. His level wasn’t high, just twenty-one. In a time where most players were already at levels twenty-eight or twenty-nine, and even level thirty players had emerged, such a level was considered low.
“Opinion, haha, I don’t have any opinion!” Song Jian shrugged and sneered.
Surrounding his home with this many men, they obviously had the intention to resort to force if necessary. If this was the case, then there was nothing much he could say to him.
“Mr. Song, we really are sincere in inviting you to serve the country!” Councilor Wang exclaimed cheerfully.
“Is surrounding my place heavily with hundreds of soldiers your sincerity?” Song Jian laughed.
Wang Zi finally changed his expression. Song Jian had just come out from the game. How could he know that there were hundreds of soldiers outside? Wasn’t a player’s strength supposed to decrease heavily when returning to reality from the game world?
Wang Zi, also a professional, knew well that a large portion of a player’s strength comes from their equipment. When they leave the game world, their abilities decrease significantly. Some skills might even get weakened due to the decrease in personal attributes.
As per his understanding, Song Jian was a melee professional, and his weapon was a one-handed sword. All sword skills required attribute support. Without equipment, his swordsmanship would lose its power. Even if his abilities were strong, they would be undermined.
“Why did he know immediately after coming back that there are so many soldiers surrounding him?” Wang Zi adjusted his glasses and thought to himself, “Could it be that he has developed a skill with scouting functionality?”
“Mr. Song, as you know, this is merely a security measure. We won’t really use it against you.” Wang Zi said with a smile, “We just want to request you to join the special squadron of the Southwest Military Region. Also, since I heard you are the guild leader of the largest guild in Doomsday City, we could let you be the squad leader of this unit. What do you think?”
The players that entered the game all used their real names. Since Song Jian was quite renowned in Doomsday City, it was very easy to investigate him. Therefore, Wang Zi knew much information about Song Jian.
“Not so good!” Song Jian stood up and said to Wang Zi, “If there’s nothing else, I would like you to leave. I am preparing to rest.”
Wang Zi’s face turned grim, but he knew that Song Jian must have his own cards and confidence. Starting an argument now would only disadvantage him.
Moreover, if it truly came down to a confrontation, Wang Zi didn’t know how many soldiers would he have to sacrifice to catch Song Jian. The most likely outcome would be sacrificing hundreds of soldiers and letting Song Jian escape.
Capturing a batch of players while they were still weak was the strategy of the Southwest Military Region. They had already recruited hundreds of players of various professions. However, there were still many players who refused to be recruited. These players were under strict surveillance.
“If that’s the case, then Mr. Song, let’s talk next time.” Wang Zi managed a smile and turned to leave.
Song Jian stood quietly, waiting for the moment when soldiers would storm in. But soon, he noticed the soldiers gradually retreating. They didn’t rush in to arrest him.
Only when the soldiers left did Song Jian startlingly realize that one-third of these soldiers were professionals. Although their levels weren’t as high as his, the lowest ones were still at level twenty-five.
Song Jian gave a faint smile, shook his head, and turned to lie back down on his bed.
A night passed without a word. Just as day broke, Song Jian opened his eyes forcefully and stepped out of his room.
He looked back, a complex expression on his face. He probably wouldn’t be coming back to this place again.
Walking down the street, even though no one was bothering him anymore, Song Jian could still sense someone monitoring him nearby. However, the person was too far away to be detected.
Just then, Song Jian’s phone suddenly rang.
