Chapter 600 Give and Take
"I don't agree with their policies and way of thinking, the fact that they hunt their own brethren and eat when they don't want to agree with them makes me sick to my stomach," Isa added.
When Rain heard about the dragons' actions, he couldn't help but feel quite troubled. The revelation painted a picture of the dragons that was even worse than he had initially imagined. Rain had always been aware of the dragons' power and their violence, but the extent of their actions and hatred was alarming.
Rain was well aware of the dragons' ability to transform, which allowed them to blend in with other species and go unnoticed. This newfound knowledge provided a possible explanation for the dragons' recent quietness. They were likely moving discreetly, searching for individuals who were following in Joanis's footsteps and seeking to acquire dangerous knowledge.
Probably because they knew that it was the same knowledge the demi-humans used against them.
The realization that the dragons were actively involved in these troubling affairs added a layer of complexity to the already delicate situation. Rain knew that he would need to tread carefully in his efforts to uncover the truth and protect his world from further harm.
"You seem like a good person, despite your desire for power, so I will give you a hand and prove that we aren't your enemies," Isa said and then her eyes changed.
As Rain discussed about that, he noticed something intriguing in Isa's demeanor. Her eyes underwent a subtle transformation, reminiscent of the fierce and penetrating gaze of a dragon. It was as though her eyes had taken on a quality that allowed her to see deep into Rain's thoughts and feelings, making him feel like an open book before her. It wasn't just a sensation. Her irises truly became pointy.
Isa's newfound intensity was both worrying and disconcerting, as it hinted at her deep understanding of the situation and her own unique insights. Rain couldn't help but feel a heightened sense of vulnerability as her dragon-like eyes seemed to read him more profoundly than ever before.
"Are you reading my mind?" Rain asked.
"I don't know what your technique can do, but Dragon's Eye can see your aura changing at every moment with your thoughts. "Confusion, curiosity, fear for one's life, fear for the lives of others, hatred, love… I can see all that just by talking with you."
"That sure does sound like a neat trick," Rain said. "Still, I find it suspicious that you would help me so readily when I killed a bunch of dragons already, even more so when I don't have anything to offer to you in exchange."
"The fact that you will be busy and won't pry in our society for a while will be good enough as a payment, the world isn't ready to see how much we Changed over the years," Isa explained. "At the same time, you will become a problem to those who might threaten us in the future. As long as they keep focusing on you, we will be fine.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
I also don't like the fact that someone is moving around trying to blame us for their crimes."
"That is a reasoning that I can accept," Rain said. Read new chapters at empire
As Isa's intentions became clearly evident, and it became clear that her motivations might not be entirely selfless, Rain found himself more inclined to believe her words. Her intensity and the depths of her knowledge about the dragons raised his curiosity, leaving him eager to explore this new layer of understanding.
Before they could delve deeper into the discussion, their conversation was interrupted by a group of children who arrived bearing a steaming bowl of red soup. The unexpected arrival of the kids and the fragrant aroma of the soup shifted the focus of their interaction, and Rain's thoughts turned to the meal they were about to share.
"... It tastes like beef from earth," Rain thought while trying to hold back his frowning since that would be rude.
After filling their bellies, they rested for a short while before Van was forced to leave them alone again. At that point in time, all the curious onlookers had left the area since they couldn't hear what they were talking about from that distance.
"Shall we start then?" Isa asked.
"Do I need to keep secret that you are teaching me things?" Rain asked.
"What are you talking about?" Isa raised her left eyebrow. "I was talking about you revealing the important information that you kept hidden, mainly about you. I can see the type of person you were based on your feelings, but I want to know what kind of person you are when you fight."
Rain quickly realized that Isa was a foolproof lie detector. Her uncanny ability to read his emotions left him with no room to consider deception or half-truths. It became clear that he couldn't even think of lying or concealing information from her.
Sharing virtually everything about his fighting life with Isa felt like a worrisome prospect. Still, the promise of what he could learn from her and the depth of her understanding made him consider that the potential benefits of their interaction might outweigh his concerns.
Rain understood that her unique insights and abilities could provide valuable knowledge and guidance as he navigated the complex challenges ahead.
"You can start by talking about your family and friends since you aren't interested in talking about your fighting deeds," Isa said.
"With pleasure," Rain grinned from ear to ear.
During the course of the night, Rain found himself engaged in an extended conversation with Isa, predominantly centered around his children. He shared stories about his kids, describing their adorable antics and how quickly they were growing.
Rain had imagined that Isa would become irritated or tired of hearing about his children, but to his surprise, she remained in a good mood throughout their discussion… she seemed like a family person, and Rain's enthusiasm also affected her.
What do you think?
