Chapter 492 Baited
Chapter 492 Baited
Fifty minutes had passed since the battle began, and while many unavoidable casualties were suffered on both sides, the expedition members were dominating the battlefield.
Besides the appearance of the Monarch of the Putrid Swamp, a Toad Beastmen, a figure who had some history with the Domain, the only other surprising thing was the sudden appearance of two Chaos Generals.
The Cult brought out two Chaos Generals minutes into the battle, who seemed to be under the effects of something, making them go on a rampage, not caring if it was a friend or a foe, and even though they were far from their peak, each one could take on multiple Elemental Rulers.
Their bodies radiated with the element of chaos, shrugging off most attacks by the armor of twisted fabric of space clung to their bodies while they created uncontrolled anomalous catastrophes.
They were causing a lot of destruction but were quickly immobilized by Zanthean, The Human Saint, who was one of the strongest on the field.
The Expedition forces outnumbered the Cult and the Eldravian Empire Forces, but their focus was to keep them at bay and not kill them because each death was more fuel for the life-siphoning array.
After forty-five grueling minutes, which were enough to turn the once majestic capital city into a pile of rubles with even the Royal palace remaining barely standing, the bad news came.
'Never expected it to be so seamless,' Alex thought as he cursed under his breath.
Tauricus was finally able to break the last of the barrier and reach the four creatures, and as he was expecting, one of the four conduit crystals was fake.
Tauricus informed Elders and others before he swiftly left the area in search of the last remaining crystal, knowing no matter how well it was hidden, it should be giving off a massive signal sooner or later.
Alex's anxiety level was growing with each passing moment, as he could do nothing but wait and hope for the best outcome.
------------
"My Queen, There is nothing we can do, so I beg you once more that you stop watching this," A childish voice laced with concern sounded in a part of the forest located tens of kilometers away from the capital city, Nova.
"Sparkles, I can hear their screams and feel their pain," Sophia said, her eyes fixed on the system window that had the live stream showing the capital city Nova running on it.
"My Queen, please return to your world," Bell, The squirrel seated atop her shoulder, said while gently nuzzling its head against the young girl.
"Bell, if they are going die, then I need to witness their last moments because that is the least I could do for their unconditional loyalty," Sophia said, her eyes dry and her face marked by dried-up tears.
"We are all just old fossils who should have died long ago, and if now death has finally come for us, we can die in peace knowing we have a Queen, a beautiful fate that was not in the destiny of most of my kind," Lioness said as she tried to comfort her queen.
"I can not save those guys, but one day, I will create a safe place for you guys," Sophia said out loud, her eyes filled with determination.
'My Queen, we are an accursed race who have no life without a Queen, and it tears me that you are forced to watch this ugly reality,' Sparkles said, his thoughts tinged with a grimace of bitter resignation.
"Sparkles, Look, Look, something is happening," Sophia shouted loudly as she pointed at the screen.
The live stream showed the ruined city and the once crimson sphere that had completely devoured a section of the city, slowly dissipating, leaving behind a platform with a perfect-looking spherical base that floated amidst the void of space, and atop it laid the four chained Chaos generals.
The Four gems embedded in their chest were nowhere to be seen, and they no longer appeared to be suffering from extreme pain, with their bodies lifelessly leaning forward, not falling because of the chains that bound them in place.
The sky above the city twisted momentarily before a hulking giant with dark horses appeared in place, and a moment later, the female elf appeared a short distance away, their appearance having undergone a radical change.
"-It was fun battling against you, but you lot are brain dead if you thought that you had any chance of stopping us-" The Horned individual said as he raised his fist, instantly making the space above him come alive with the small size sun, each radiating intense heat.
"My Queen, This is the power of a man who stands at the world's pineal, a figure for whom the entire world is his Elemental Domain, but at my peak, I could easily deal with someone like him," Bell said, as she puffed out its little chest but quickly lowered it after hearing a purr from Lioness.
The female Elf, who now wore armor and a crown of ice, looked in the direction of the four Chaos generals, only to appear next to them an instant later.
In that small window, the hundreds of burning suns began to descend at an alarming speed before they began to explode, creating a chain of explosions that sent a shock and noise so high-pitched that the cameras capturing the video in tens of kilometers were all destroyed.
The live stream returned from a different bird's-eye view, showing the frozen expanse that covered the skies above the capital city, with exploding suns frozen inside of it, like they remained captured in time.
The expense of ice broke apart before dissipating into nothingness, and in that small window, the camera angles also returned to normal, but a lot had changed in the city.
The four commanders who were in chains a second ago were now free, and their bodies were visibly growing as the city rang with their roars, but even that ended a moment later as ice completely engulfed them and surrounded tens of meters.
The two enemy Monarchs vanished amidst this chaos, and so did almost all of the individuals who were not immobilized, leaving behind only a section of the two forces.
"The bad fellas are leaving," "This could be our chance to rescue everyone," Sophia said, a glimmer of hope lighting up her eyes.
"No, it's too dangerous," Sparkles said, clearly understanding the risk.
"Sparkles, I can wield your strength to swop in, make contract with all six of them, and then quickly flee into the Chaos Plain,"
"You remained the one who told me if the opportunity presented itself, then I would need to act, and this is the best chance that we will have," Sophia said, with clear frustration in her tone.
"My Queen, it is too dangerous, as this very well could be a trap," Sparkles said, not willing to take the chance no matter how easy the task appeared.
"I will need Seven servants of your level to gain complete access the Chaos Plain, the place needed for you fellas to recover your strength, and if we miss this chance, all of them could die,"
"If that happens, we will need to locate and strike the places on other continents, which could take months, and in that time, every major strength would be looking for us," "So we are going to save them, and if something does go wrong, then I can always escape," Sophia said, and it seemed like she had no plans of hearing a no as an answer.
