Chapter 1238 Where It All Began
Chapter 1238 Where It All Began
"…Huuu."
Feeling as if his entire body had been flung from one end of the universe to the other just now, Valyr could not help but let out a long exhale as he partly removed himself from his gaming pod.
Closing his eyes for a bit after that to gather his thoughts, he then sat up on the gaming pod before taking a look at his current surroundings, causing a slightly nostalgic smile to appear on his face by the time he was done.
"Well, this takes me back," muttered Valyr to himself, letting out a chuckle as he began to walk around the apartment he was in. "I remember staying in this apartment for a few years while I was still going back and forth multiple VRMMORPGs to earn money."
Glancing at all of the various items scattered all over the apartment, the nostalgic smile on the young man's face grew deeper as he continued to recall memories from the past.
"However, that all changed when Greater Beyond came out," said the young man as a couple memories came to mind. "Surprisingly, it only took me a year to save up enough money through the game to leave this place and buy myself a house that I could actually call my own."
"Then, it only got better and better after that."
Just like the other VRMMORPGs he played in the past, Greater Beyond had a feature that allowed players to exchange the money they had in-game into currency they could use in their daily lives.
However, when comparing the currency exchange models these various games used to Greater Beyond's model, there was no doubt in anyone's minds that the model the latter used was far more generous in comparison.
As long as one was able to amass 100 copper coins in the game, one would be able to convert it five Deltas, which was more than enough money for one person to make sure they would eat three meals in a day.
On the other hand, the most generous VRMMORPG that came before Greater Beyond utilized a model that needed one to amass a gold coin first before being able to exchange it into real-life currency.
Not only that, but the amount of Deltas one would get from the exchange would be less than half of what Greater Beyond offered!
And so, it was no surprise that as more and more time passed, Greater Beyond garnered more and more people to play it, allowing them to take the majority of the market in just a matter of months.
In fact, as far as Valyr could recall, by the time the new version of Greater Beyond came around, only 5% of the market was left for the other VRMMORPGs, causing their existences to eventually die down as Greater Beyond formed a monopoly.
"If only the game's existence didn't lead to the final battle happening, then the world would've probably become a better place in a way," said Valyr with a slight chuckle, only to let out a sigh soon after.
Faintly shaking his head, he soon lied on his sofa as he went over all of the things he'd talked about with Adam and Eve, wondering if everything he'd done in Greater Beyond so far was just an incredibly long dream.
Yet, with a few painful pinches here and there, the young man quickly reminded himself that what he'd gone through was not a dream at all. If anything, his identity as a being that now existed in both Earth and Greater Beyond was his new reality.
'Then again, I never even thought in my wildest dreams that Greater Beyond was actually a separate universe,' thought the young man to himself, recalling all of the speculations he had about Greater Beyond in the past.
Naturally, as someone who'd been able to experience the final battle in his past life, it went without saying that Valyr already knew that Greater Beyond was something that extended far beyond just a mere game.
However, it was only after talking to Adam and Eve did he finally realize the extent of how much it extended, prompting him to even think that looking at Greater Beyond as a gate to another universe wouldn't be a wrong idea.
Of course, such a thought only slightly differed from the theories and speculations he and the others had in his past life, talking about how Greater Beyond was a game made by a more technologically advanced civilization than theirs.
In that aspect, their theories were correct.
The only difference was the location of that technologically advanced civilization itself.
Then again, no one even expected the game to have something to do with another universe, not even Valyr himself. After all, there were still a lot of scientific mysteries Earth hadn't solved yet. Proving the existence of multiple universes seemed like an incredibly far stretch to what Earth was capable of proving in comparison.
"In any case, to think that beings like them would be on our side…' Continuing to think about the truths behind Greater Beyond that the two laid out in front of him, Valyr soon recalled the last few words Adam and Eve mentioned to him, faintly shaking his head at the absurdity of it all.
Nevertheless, that did not stop a faint smile from appearing on his face, especially when he thought about how achieving his goals would be many times easier than before with the help of those two Administrators. n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
'Perhaps there really is a chance for our side to win the final battle this time around,' thought Valyr to himself as he let out a slight chuckle. 'But of course, just like Eve said, I need to get stronger first. As strong as I can possibly can.'
With that, even though it had only been around ten minutes or so since he'd returned to Earth, Valyr showed no hesitation in entering the gaming pod once more, using the memories he had to control it as if he'd been using the pod for years.
Whoosh!
"…Huh?" However, just as Valyr began to feel like his consciousness was being transported to the world of Greater Beyond, that process immediately grinded to a halt as a screen appeared before him not even a few seconds later.
"Seriously?"
"The game's in maintenance?"
