Chapter 477: Meeting on a Narrow Road
Rong Yan, having received his assurance, made an OK gesture and quietly blended into the crowd. She found a corner, turned her back to the crowd, and began selecting some small pastries and juices.
Li Shengxiao stood in place, staring at her slender figure for a full two minutes. It was only after being prompted by a staff member that he retracted his gaze, his expression reverting to the cold aloofness that kept others at bay, “Let’s go.”
“Yes.”
He had barely walked away when Rong Yan selected her juice and a small egg tart, found an absolutely inconspicuous corner to lean on, and began to rest her ankles while observing the various people mingling and toasting at the venue.
Because the dinner held high prestige, it was chosen to be in Lin City’s only seven-star hotel, where all the juices provided were freshly squeezed.
Rong Yan chose a cup of watermelon juice, which tasted sweet and refreshing, with a slightly lingering sweetness. She was squinting her eyes, tasting it while boredly waiting for that man to return.
Unbeknownst to her, at that moment, she caught a slight commotion at the entrance from the corner of her eye—
The couple that entered hand in hand, a handsome man and a beautiful woman, were particularly eye-catching among the group. The man’s handsome face was adorned with a Versace 2019 men’s dark spiral pattern suit, paired with a Han’s white T-shirt, radiating scholarly charm. The woman, however, was wearing an MD-design gown, not from the 2019 new collection but MD’s most classic 1987 ‘little black dress’. The black off-shoulder style was elegantly poised, and the dress’s large silhouette along with the black fabric exuded a low-key luxury.
Rong Yan had seen this black dress abroad. It’s said that a legendary actress once wore it and thanks to her performance, the style became an eternal classic of MD.
Such classic pieces are even harder to obtain than new ones.
And Rong Weiwei had actually managed to get one, wearing it so ostentatiously. No wonder she caught the attention of many as soon as she entered.
Rong Yan, wearing an expressionless face, sipped her watermelon juice with a straw, watching the couple at the entrance enjoying the crowd’s attention. Surprisingly, she felt not even a ripple in her heart.
Rong Weiwei and Shi Mufeng had once been obstacles she thought she’d never overcome.
Now upon seeing them again, aside from finding their display of affection somewhat nauseating, she seemed to feel no particular discomfort.
She silently withdrew her gaze, deciding that rather than irritate her eyes, she might as well grab another of those egg tarts she had tried earlier. They tasted quite good!
On the other side, Rong Weiwei was reveling in the gazes of admiration from all directions, greeting the top society members with lively chatter by leveraging her relationship with Shi Mufeng.
Through their acquaintanceship with several power players from diverse circles.
Feeling proud and elated, Rong Weiwei’s lips curved in a gratified smile as she surveyed the room with spirited eyes. Suddenly, her gaze was captivated by a figure in the corner.
As if she had seen a ghost, she blurted out with a face full of surprise, “Sister?”
How could Rong Yan be here?
She had just personally seen that woman carrying stuff into Hengtong, not sure what business she had. How did she end up at this place?
When did she come out?
She had been outside for so long, so why hadn’t she seen her come out?
Within a short span, Rong Weiwei’s thoughts raced, “Strange, why is my sister here alone?”
Today’s dinner was private, meaning that aside from those who were invited, others could not come in.
Could Rong Yan have sneaked in?
