Chapter 70: Blood-Devouring Rabbit
The group of students continued to try different spirit skills and tried all together, but nothing seemed to work. They tried the elemental spirit skill of fire, earth, and even the spell of levitation, but the boulder remained firmly in place.
After several failed attempts, the students hung their heads in defeat. They had used their powers to the best of their abilities, but the boulder proved to be too big and too heavy for them to move.
Wang Min looked around at the frustrated faces of the students and sighed. "It seems we can't move this boulder with our current group's strength. We'll have to wait for other teams to come so we can get this massive rock out of the stream's path and get the water flowing to the village."
The students agreed with his statement and all of the teams returned to the village, disappointed but not defeated. They knew that they would be able to finish the task when all the twenty-five teams join in as they were determined to help the villagers.
When everyone was trying to do the task, Shangguan Sisters were standing with Yue Yan a dozen of meters away, Ling'er also didn't join to aid them when she saw how desperate the situation was. She started believing Yue Yan's prediction more and more.
The trio returned to the village as they saw other students bringing branches, vines, and moss to create their temporary shelter inside the village as it was safer than the wilderness to build it inside.
"Should we go now?" Yue Yan asked, he didn't show off that his prediction was correct as this was a minor thing for him.
"Yeah" Ling'er nodded, she saw how the other students were busy making their shelter and decided to leave before they noticed them.
Yue Yan and his companions walked towards the exit gate of the village, their footsteps clicking on the ground beneath their feet. The warm sun shone brightly overhead, marking it as high noon.
As they stepped through the gate and into the dense forest, the cool shade of the trees enveloped them. The rustling of leaves and chirping of birds filled the air, and the group continued forward, as they were going to start hunting for their special mission.
They cautiously made their way deeper into the wilderness, ensuring they were out of sight of any other students.
After confirming there was nobody who could notice them, Yue Yan stopped and focused his energy, mumbling a chant for the Shangguan Sisters to hear as he summoned forth the golden lion.
The shimmering golden beast materialized before them, its imposing figure stood in the dense forest.
Bing'er and Ling'er were amazed to see the magnificent creature once again as they didn't expect him to summon it very soon.
Kicking the ground with his foot, Yue Yan shot into the sky as he landed on the lion's back and offered his hand to Ling'er, "Come, we need to go deeper into the forest if we want to hunt those wild beasts."
Ling'er eagerly grabbed his strong hand and didn't show any resistance as she was used to this by now. After climbing up, she helped Bing'er to sit behind her.
The trio rode the golden lion, galloping gracefully through the underbrush. The sun filtered through the leaves, dappling their faces with warm light, as they traveled toward the depths of the forest.
They suddenly heard a rustling in the bushes ahead of them. The golden lion growled low in its throat, its muscles tensing as it noticed a threat.
Yue Yan cautiously commanded the golden lion to stop as the trio dismounted from its back.
Ling'er was attentive as she discovered the wild beast ahead, she gazed at her teammates to keep silent, bringing her index finger to her plumpy lips.
They approached the bushes, Ling'er hand on the hilt of her long sword as she was ready to unsheath it any second.
The rustling grew louder, and suddenly a massive beast burst from the thick bushes.
It was a blood-devouring rabbit that was around one meter in size, with razor-sharp teeth and glowing red eyes. Its fur was a mottled brown, covered in dried blood and bits of leaves and twigs. The beast let out an ear-splitting screech, revealing its hunger for prey.
Ling'er and her companions stepped back, their eyes locked on the monster before them.
"Be careful, This lord-rank beast is dangerous." She warned, drawing her long sword.
The blood-devouring rabbit bared its teeth, ready for a fight. The beast and humans stared each other down, the tension thick in the air before the battle for their own survival began.
"Do you need help or you can handle it alone?" Yue Yan asked as he didn't find the beast a threat.
"I can manage it alone but it would be hard while protecting you both," Ling'er said, as her eyes were glued on the enemy ahead.
"You don't have to protect either of us." The boy said with a feeble smile as he cast his Guardian shield skill.
As the blood-devouring rabbit lunged forward, intent on its prey, Yue Yan quickly raised his hand and summoned the power of his guardian shield.
A transparent bubble of energy enveloped him and the Shangguan Sisters, providing a barrier between them and the ferocious beast.
The bubble was strong and durable, made of a complex layer of protective energies coming from his Guardian Shield spirit. It pulsed with healing light, the color shifting from silver to bright gold. It was a powerful skill, imbued with the defensive might of the Golden grade spirit that would protect its master and their allies from harm.
As the blood-devouring rabbit collided with the protective bubble of the guardian shield, its teeth snapping and its claws scraping at the surface, the bubble held strong. The beast roared in frustration, unable to penetrate the barrier.
"Whoaaa..." Ling'er gasped in amazement as she saw the imposing guardian shield to protect them easily against the blood-devouring rabbit.
She didn't think the boy in her team who was deemed a 'Trash' by his siblings would have such a strong spirit in his possessions.
Bing'er also watched from within the safety of the bubble, her eyes wide with awe and wonder. She had never seen anything like this before, and she felt a sense of gratitude for the protection it provided.
The blood-devouring rabbit continued its assault for several times, but the guardian shield held fast.
"Are you planning to kill the beast or should I step in?" Yue Yan asked, looking at the girl beside him who was mesmerized by the Guardian shield spirit's imposing defensive power.
Ling'er nodded, determination shining in her eyes. She unsheathed her long sword and stepped forward, facing the blood-devouring rabbit.
The beast let out an angry wail and jumped forward, its razor-sharp teeth gleaming in the sunlight.
Ling'er dodged the attack, her movements graceful and fluid. Her spirit was Two-horned Mad Tyrant which provided her two skills that boosted her strength and defense in a battle. This spirit was also the reason that required her to consume more food than a normal person.
The crimson-haired beauty summoned her spirit power as it surged within her, boosting her strength and defense.
She swung her sword with practiced ease, her strikes precise and deadly.
Yue Yan could see that the girl was really talented with the swords although she wasn't at the level whom he slaughtered in his second life but at her current level, she was more than enough to be worthy of praise.
The blood-devouring rabbit was no match for Ling'er's skill as well as for the power of her Double horned Mad Tyrant spirit.
With a final slash, she brought the beast down, its blood spilling onto the forest ground, dying the grass in red.
Yue Yan dropped the bubble, as Bing'er ran to Ling'er's side.
"Are you okay?" The white-haired beauty asked in worry as concern etched on her adorable face.
Ling'er nodded with a feeble smile, "I'm all good."
Yue Yan came and inspected the beast's corpse with a sweep of his gaze as he turned to Ling'er, "Can you take out the beast's core from its head? We may able to use it later."
He asked her as she had a long sword and he didn't have any sharp objects with him.
'Not every beast has a core, so why is he saying with so much certainty? I should still check it to be sure
Ling'er frowned, her eyes focused on the blood-devouring rabbit as she thought.
In the end, she stepped forward, her sword in hand. She opened up the beast's head with a quick slice and saw an object glinting in silver. Her eyes lit up as she pulled out a small, glowing crystal, inspecting it with a joyous heart.
