Chapter 1225: Chapter 1224: Preparing Yet Again

"But WHY does she want them to head into the Labyrinthian?! Why can she just not come out here instead?!"

The Duchess was glaring at the Empress without even trying to hold back with her sharp, glacial tone, her radiant white eyes allowing her power to be felt freely by us all as she waited for an answer.

"I have no idea, Klaki. I do not know nor will I ever know what goes on inside of Lilith's head, and I most certainly will never understand why she does things the way she does them instead of the way we do them. She is simply ancient and eccentric, a combination we are both familiar with."

Vapor rolled out of the Duchess' mouth as she let out a huff, though she finally closed her eyes and relented as she fell back into her seat and allowed the room to return to its normal temperature, though I was more than happy to let it be.

"Still not happy with it... nothing is ever simple with that Demoness. Nothing."

"Well, that's just the way it is. Besides, with both Fen and Chordeva traveling with them, they should be fine... though I doubt the oh so great Ice Dragon will be sending her hatchling into the jaws of the Labyrinthian without some protection?"

The Duchess huffed again and crossed her arms, looking at everyone before finally saying "Of course she'll have some protection. She might not be a full fledged Dragon but she is MY daughter... She already has it hanging around her neck."

We all glanced at Draka, searching her neckline for whatever it was that the Duchess had given her only to see the Dragonkin hoisting a long, jagged claw made of ice that dangled off of a cyan chain.

The magic that pulsed off of it in waves after she tapped it a few times was suffocating, so after just a moment she slid it back beneath her collar and stopped it from drowning the room in the mana that we had just escaped from, albeit a bit weaker since it wasn't directly from then/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

source.

"Reluctantly I must agree with the overgrown frost lizard. Why do I need to head into the Labyrinthian alongside these brats? What am I, a damn chaperone? I can't even bring Arc to suck on my ba-"

"Fen."

Growling softly, the Demon Wolf snatched up her goblet and drained it of whatever liquor it was that she was drinking, slaking her thirst somewhat before just deciding to drink straight from the bottle again as she said "This is gonna suck..."

"You aren't the only one being separated from your loved ones, Commander. Perhaps this is that training you were telling me about? The one that I apparently 'needed desperately'?"

Mom gave the Demon Wolf a sly grin as she too began to drink, though the cold, sharp silver eye that looked towards her made her shiver slightly even as she drained her own goblet, bringing the conversation to something that wasn't truly something that needed to be discussed.

"Sure, but these four are going to die to if I have to listen and smell them doing it at every damn opportunity in the Labyrinthian. That aside, I suppose the old bitch will provide one hell of a reason for requesting us. Just to see what insane discovery she made inside of insanity itself might be worth it. Otherwise, I will mount her head on a pike."

The table fell into a bit of a shouting match after that as Lady Igna snorted and 'questioned' Lady Fenyras' abilities, with the other Dragon chiming in as she too took jabs at the Demon Wolf before mixing them with flirting as she insinuated that Lady Fenyras wouldn't be coming back, so she might as well leave behind another pup...

Things got out of hand quickly after that, so we youngsters fled from the table as soon as we could to go and hang out elsewhere, showing off the gardens to Draka as we began to talk

once more.

Learning about her harem that had grown and how she was being made into the 'Mayor' of the newest city up north as her Mother demanded she start learning how to govern was rather interesting, the difference in how two of the more important scions of the Empire were being prepared for the future providing us with many hours of conversation.

Our recent exploits as well were shared with her, and being able to yet again see someone's reaction to what happened helped make it feel both more real and give us a bit of closure on something we were still reluctant to completely accept happened.

Sharing these things with Draka was refreshing, and as soon as we were all comfortable we moved on and resumed the sharing of the things we had done, be they the lighthearted accomplishments or the more serious things, catching up for all the time we had missed thanks to Jillian.

The Elf that was still out there, somewhere, likely plotting something crazy simply because there was no way someone that insane was dead yet, and in a world filled with magic I refused to believe someone else killed her, so until I was standing over her...

Letting my long lived hatred of that insufferable stain of an existence return to its dormant position yet again, I returned to the conversation of the nifty little things we had all learned how to do, discovering that Draka had taken the same route as me as she revealed that she found no particular pull to a single thing but instead a weaker intrigue into many things. Enchanting, alchemy, fighting and spell casting all caught her eye alongside politics and business, and on top of all of that she had found a somewhat talented human woman who could forge basic things, so she herself had access to all sorts of lucrative professions for 'free' just like we did.

With a bottle of wine to share and the warmth of the sun above peacefully draping itself across our little gathering, we looked to the far future as we discussed the things we wanted to do to become better leaders for the people that would inevitably look to us whenever we took over the responsibility of ruling from our parents.
