Chapter 407: Survivor
Terrance stood in the arena, waiting for his next opponent to step forward. He had just recalled his Altaria and had yet to send out his next Pokémon.
The sound of hurried footsteps echoed, and a boy in a blue shirt pushed through the crowd, panting heavily as he spoke.
“I’m Cullen from Mauville City.”
“Hello,” Terrance nodded slightly. “Let’s begin.”
Both of them took their positions. Once Scarlet announced the start of the battle, a faint smile appeared on Terrance’s lips and he swept his gaze across all the audience on one side of the arena.
“Today, you can show off to your heart’s content,” he said casually as he tossed out the Poké Ball.
“Awwoo~~~”
It had been a long time since Arcanine had fought to its heart’s content. Unlike Altaria, whose brief rest could restore its stamina, Arcanine grew stronger and more energized the longer it battled. Following Terrance’s command, Arcanine stepped forward, its fierce eyes looking at the Crawdaunt sent out by the opposing Trainer.
Terrance smiled faintly. Ten? Twenty? Thirty?
How many Trainers could Arcanine defeat before it’s completely exhausted? The opposing Trainer was well aware of Terrance’s formidable strength. Even with a type advantage, he dared not underestimate Arcanine.
“Crawdaunt, Bubble Beam!”
In the end, the Trainer decided to start with a probing move. Crawdaunt, after all, was a brutish Pokémon that loves to battle. However, upon seeing the majestic visage of Arcanine, his heart trembled, frightened by its roar.
Pop-pop-pop!
Swinging its massive pincers, Crawdaunt launched countless bubbles directly at Arcanine.
Probing, huh?
Arcanine grinned, and at Terrance’s command of “Flamethrower,” it unleashed a blazing pillar of fire. The two powerful moves collided head-on, immediately creating a thick mist, obscuring the view of both sides.
Boom!
Suddenly, a violent gust of wind tore through the mist. Sensing the unusual turbulence, Terrance’s opponent grew visibly nervous.
“Crawdaunt, the enemy’s closing in! Stay alert and get ready to use Crabhammer!”
“Craw~daunt~!!!”
Crawdaunt raised its pincers, its eyes fixed on the slowly dissipating mist.
“Ah….” In the crowd, Kotoko watched Crawdaunt with a sympathetic expression. With Arcanine’s explosive power, can Crawdaunt even react in time?
Suddenly, a shadow emerged in front of Crawdaunt, leaping out of the mist. The swirling mist seemed to part, leaving a gaping hole in its wake.
Bang!
“This… This is Wild Charge!”
Seeing the shadow cloaked in golden light, like a ferocious beast charging straight at Crawdaunt, the Trainer stood frozen in shock.
The command had already been given. Faced with Arcanine’s surprise attack, whether Crawdaunt could contend against it depends entirely on itself!
Boom!!
At the critical moment, Crawdaunt, who had prepared in advance, managed to use Crabhammer. Water surged around its pincers as it swung them wildly under the immense pressure of Arcanine’s overwhelming presence. But despite Crawdaunt’s efforts, Arcanine stayed firmly on its trajectory, its body surging with crackling electricity as it clashed with Crabhammer—
Boom!n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Amid the explosion, electricity surged in all directions, instantly creating a breathtaking spectacle. For a brief moment, time seemed to freeze. In reality, it lasted only an instant. A figure was sent flying out of the explosion, slamming into a wall before coming to a stop.
“Crawdaunt!!” The Trainer cried out in alarm as he saw Crawdaunt’s entire body charred black from the electricity.
Even Crabhammer couldn’t stop Arcanine’s Wild Charge…
Struck directly by the Electric-type move, Crawdaunt was no longer able to continue the battle!
“Whoo… whoo…” Arcanine exhaled small bursts of flame, scattering the lingering mist. It’s unscathed body reappeared before the eyes of over a hundred Trainers, all of whom showed solemn expressions.
Trainers of the same age group couldn’t even stand against any of Terrance’s Pokémon, and every encounter ended in a swift and decisive defeat. The sheer disparity in strength was staggering!
The next challenger stepped forward, lacking much confidence. By now, no one was thinking of defeating Terrance and boldly snatching his limelight; it was clear that his widespread reputation was well-deserved.
Excluding the Trainers who had already taken the stage, fewer than twenty of the remaining challengers still exuded strong fighting spirit. These were individuals either highly confident in their abilities or those whose personalities were such that they refused to back down from a challenge, no matter how powerful the opponent.
Arcanine’s next opponent was an Onix, a heavyweight Pokémon. The opposing Trainer’s strategy was to rely on Onix’s incredible defense to withstand Arcanine’s attacks, then wait for the right moment to seal Arcanine’s movements. Ultimately, he plans to use Onix’s massive body to constrict Arcanine until it is unable to fight.
However, Arcanine nimbly stomped on the ground, flames and Onix’s body before suddenly colliding with Onix’s forehead—
Boom!!
A burst of explosive flames erupted with a loud bang, accompanied by the tremendous momentum generated by Arcanine’s accelerated charge. Flare Blitz was unleashed in such a nonchalant manner by Arcanine!
“Awwoooo~~~!”
Onix shook its tail, trembling all over. At this moment, its face was completely charred, suffering from severe burns, and its eyes could barely open.
“Impossible…”
Many people exclaimed. Even Onix couldn’t withstand a single attack from Arcanine?
Altaria was one thing, but this Arcanine—what kind of monster is it?
Seeing this, most of the Trainers waiting to take the stage could hardly stay seated; it felt like they would be defeated in less than two minutes.
Especially with Arcanine’s predatory gaze sweeping through the crowd, as if searching for its next prey; it sent shivers down their spines.
“Is it holding back? It doesn’t seem like Arcanine used Outrage,” Kotoko mused.
She recalled her battle with Arcanine when it faced her Sandslash. Back then, its savagery was even more intense, and its speed far surpassed what it displayed now. It had been four months since that battle, and Kotoko doubted Terrance hadn’t made any progress in that time.
“Then again, aside from that Dragonite, every other Pokémon that’s taken the field has been nothing but trash.” Kotoko smirked. She was confident that even her Sandslash could instantly defeat them in a single move.
“Out of 300 people, only a dozen people survived. Terrance might be in the top three in terms of strength. To think that the little kid from back then could grow so powerful without going through that kind of bloody trial.”
But as Kotoko recalled the Trainer among the survivors who could use Aura and his Lucario, her pupils suddenly contracted, and her emotions grew complicated.
If it were him… Forget Terrance—even the Elite Four might not be his match….He was probably the strongest Trainer of the younger generation.
