Chapter 99: Chapter 93 Who is the Man You Married in Your Dream?

“Don’t cry, it hurts me when you do,” the woman’s voice was soft and weak, but her words carried an indescribable, heartwarming power.

“Alright, I won’t cry,” she suppressed the urge to continue shedding tears, trying her best to calm herself.

But no matter how hard she tried, facing this situation, as a child, how much could she really hold back?

String-struggled breaths—”hur—hur—” the woman was breathing more in than out, mouth agape, gasping deep, heavy breaths, on the verge of failing.

She tightly grasped the woman’s hand, unable to contain her tears.

“Mom… mom…” she kept calling out, as if calling her more would let her stay in this world a little longer.

“Qiao… Jing…” the woman, with eyes half-closed, looked at her, and intermittently said, “Mom… doesn’t blame you… never has… ”

“No, don’t blame… blame myself…”

“Mom… loves, loves you… forever… staying… by… your… side…”

After she uttered the last word, the woman closed her eyes and her hand fell limp.

“Mom…” Qiao Jing cried out, large teardrops spilling from her eyes, gliding down her cheeks, one after another, unstoppable like a bursting spring.

Zhan Qipei, hearing the commotion, parked the car at the entrance of the apartment complex.

Then turning his head, he saw Qiao Jing’s tear-streaked face at once.

A heart uncontrollably clenched, he stepped out of the car and gently opened the backseat door.

Since Qiao Jing’s body was leaning against the door, it tilted slightly when the door opened.

Zhan Qipei quickly stepped forward to support Qiao Jing’s nearly falling body.

“Mom…” Qiao Jing subconsciously hugged around Zhan Qipei’s waist, holding him tightly in her arms, her face pressed against his midsection.

Zhan Qipei’s brow furrowed, he raised his hand but eventually lowered it, not pulling Qiao Jing away but letting the girl cling tightly to him.

Before long, her tears drenched his trousers.

How could she cry like this? What kind of dream had she had?

Zhan Qipei stood like a pillar for a good ten minutes, finally unable to contain himself, he let out a long sigh and reached out to wipe the tears from her face with his fingers.

The slight touch on her face brought Qiao Jing back to awareness. She opened her swollen eyes and followed the embrace up to him. Recognizing Zhan Qipei, she paused for a second, then let go of him and noticed his wet trousers.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to,” Qiao Jing raised her arm, rubbing his trousers back and forth with her sleeve.

He stopped her after just a couple of swipes by grabbing her wrist.

“You woman, really—don’t care about these things!”

Zhan Qipei wasn’t bothered by this, but her gesture sparked thoughts and feelings in him that shouldn’t have surfaced, causing him to question his own self-control.

“Were you dreaming just now?” Zhan Qipei changed the subject and asked.

“Yeah,” Qiao Jing, having seen their location, then got out of the car.

“What were you dreaming about?” Zhan Qipei was curious, what kind of dream had Qiao Jing had to cry so much?

Qiao Jing slowed down slightly, her lips gradually curving into a smile that was both happy and nostalgic.

“I dreamed of my mom.”

No wonder.

“And then?” Zhan Qipei continued to inquire.

“I dreamed that I always lived with my mom, from a very young age, about this tall,” Qiao Jing gestured with her hand on her leg.

“She cooked for me, made chicken soup for me, kept me happy every day, and then I grew up, got married, I was in my wedding dress, I saw her sitting below, secretly wiping tears. She kept watching me, and the groom exchanging vows and rings.”

Qiao Jing was completely immersed in her dream, not realizing that at this point, Zhan Qipei glanced at her fingers.

No rings.

He hadn’t bought any.

The Zhan Family had prepared some, but on the wedding day, he hadn’t shown up, so there was no exchange of rings.

Qiao Jing continued, “Later on, she got old, so old she couldn’t move, lying on the sickbed, holding my hand. She said… she doesn’t blame me.”

Speaking of which, Qiao Jing’s eyes reddened, she stopped, turned to look at Zhan Qipei, and smiling, she said: “She also said, to not blame myself, she said she loves me, she will always stay by my side!”

At this moment, Qiao Jing’s brilliant smile, shining with a hint of cold light, was vivid and arresting, causing Zhan Qipei to not want to look away.

Qiao Jing laughed out loud, her steps light, a face full of relief, she twirled on the thin layer of snow, “My mom has always been with me, just in another form.”

Zhan Qipei just stood there watching, feeling as though he was looking at his entire world, his gaze fixed solely on Qiao Jing.

After a short while, they both entered the elevator together.

Zhan Qipei suddenly remembered to ask, “Who was the man marrying you in the dream?”
