Chapter 763: Chapter 757: Chu Molin is here
The elders of the Li family were not present, so that the young people could be more comfortable, while Chen Lei and Mrs. Xu were cooking in the kitchen. Chen Lei rarely cooked, but today, she was personally preparing a meal for her guests since she was in a good mood.
“Mrs. Xu, please chop the green peppers, I will use them later,” Chen Lei asked Mrs. Xu while pointing at the uncut green peppers.
“Of course, they are all fortunate today now that the madam is cooking,” Mrs. Xu declared with a good-natured laugh.
“I’m just cooking because I’m free and we have guests today. You’re making it seem like a bigger deal than it is,” Chen Lei replied modestly, laughing herself.
“Madam, you’re too humble; your cooking skill is unanimously acknowledged as excellent by the family,” Mrs. Xu praised as she handed the chopped green peppers to Chen Lei.
The kitchen staff were busily preparing the meal with great dedication, whilst the handful of people in the living room were happily having a chat. Chu Xiaoqiao rushed to An Hao’s house right after she was expelled by her grandfather.
“Sister An Hao, I’m here,” Chu Xiaoqiao announced as soon as she entered the door, not noticing that her elder brother was present as well.
“Xiaoqiao, why did you come alone? Where are your grandmother and the two kids?” Qin Xue inquired of her sister-in-law who had arrived empty-handed.
“The kids have been snatched by my grandfather. He ousted me as well, saying he doesn’t want me disturbing his playtime with the great-grandchildren. It feels like I’m an unloved child, always being found fault with by everyone,” complained Chu Xiaoqiao. Isn’t it said that girls are the ones who are doted on the most? Seems like she’s the exception.
If Qin Xue knew of Chu Xiaoqiao’s thoughts, she would definitely scoff at her. Indeed, girls are cherished in modern times, but this was an entirely different era. How could girls be adored? It’s impressive enough nowadays if people don’t prefer boys over girls, let alone dote on girls; shouldn’t be too fanciful, Xiaoqiao!
“What? Your grandpa took the kids away? Where did he take them?” Qin Xue anxiously asked Chu Xiaoqiao.
“He didn’t really take them anywhere but home. It’s just that he wanted to hold them himself and not let me, so he sent me out to play,” Chu Xiaoqiao clarified after hearing her sister-in-law’s question.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
“Be more precise when you speak next time. Don’t be so vague, you made me worry,” Chu Molin’s aloof voice rang out, startling Chu Xiaoqiao.
“Big brother, when did you arrive?” Only then did Chu Xiaoqiao notice that she had overlooked her elder brother’s presence.
Chu Molin just glanced at her but didn’t answer her question. This left Chu Xiaoqiao at a loss as to how to react.
“Sister-in-law, my grandpa just said that he won’t object to you being a daughter-in-law to the Chus anymore. He will take care of things with the Luus, so you two shouldn’t worry,” said Chu Xiaoqiao, relaying her grandfather’s promise to her grandmother.
Upon hearing this, Qin Xue snorted. She didn’t care at all whether she became the daughter-in-law of the Chus; all she wanted was to be Chu Molin’s wife, nothing else mattered to her.
After hearing it, Chu Molin sneered, “My wife doesn’t need his approval.”
It’d be safe to say that Chu Molin didn’t feel any deep connection to the Chu family. He had grown up in the country with his mother and shortly after returning home, his mother fell sick and died. His father then remarried, and he left home. Other than his stepmother who treated him reasonably well, he didn’t harbor any affectionate feelings toward anyone else in that family.
Otherwise, Miao Qingqing wouldn’t be vying so much for her grandson’s acceptance. Once certain things are missed, there is no way to make up for them.
Even though Chu Molin’s current mindset is more mature, it doesn’t mean he’s ready to accept these so-called family members. If he hadn’t returned home with his mother, perhaps she wouldn’t have passed away so soon. How could he let go of this grudge?
Qin Xue felt the change in Chu Molin. She reached out and took his hand, smiling at him.
Chu Molin held his wife’s hand, lightly brushing his fingers over her palm to reassure her that he was okay and she had no need to worry.
