Chapter 1682: Hairpin

Chapter 1682: Hairpin

Shara trained with the spear. She was still only practicing how to move the spear and was nowhere close to being ready to actually learn how to fight, but it was training nonetheless.

She trained inside of her room, which Ning didn't like, but she didn't want to leave the room just yet, and Ning thought it better if she remained hidden as well.

The less people knew about him being with her, the less the chances of other people realizing that they fit the description of whatever rumor that may have started being spread about them.

Ning spent his time in the tavern, waiting for people to come by and ask him if they had a spirit. He only made the people that had one so he could help them.

On the first day alone, he had earned just a little over 2 silver coins from 12 people. There were quite a few people with spirits on them in the city, and even the small portion that came to the tavern after hearing about him was enough for him to earn that much.

He inquired why there were so many such people and quickly learned Spirit Detectives and Channelers asked for an exorbitant amount for their services. It wasn't unheard of for Spirit Detectives to charge a few silver coins for their services. While a few paid that price, many simply could not afford such a cost. At least, not in this city.

Not to mention, most of the Spirit Detectives and Channelers also did not visit such a remote city, opting to remain in bigger cities. As a result of the two, there was a significant build-up of spirits in the city and Ning had arrived at the right time to capitalize on it.

After the first day, his name may have spread even more since even more people came for him the next day. Since his price was in bronze coins, they were more than happy to pay him should they have a spirit.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

They couldn't imagine the thought of their loved ones not being able to peacefully pass on to the afterlife and instead hanging around them, waiting for something.

Ning raked in a lot of money, but that was insignificant to what else he got. Points.

Most quests he received from helping the Spirits gave him a point or two. But there were some that gave him a little more points. One quest in particular gave him 20 points.

Given the contents of the quest, however, Ning didn't find it surprising.

"Do you have a hairpin at your house? One that looks good on you," Ning asked the lady.

"A hairpin? I have a few. I cannot tell whether they look good on me or not. Why are you asking me that?" she asked.

"Your father wishes for me to get you a nice hairpin because he wants to see you wear a pretty one," Ning said.

"Is that what the old man is staying behind for?" she asked, puzzled. That was such a nothing reason to remain behind. Was she not as pretty to him as she was? Did she need to wear a hairpin?

Ning could understand her frustration, but then, he had also lied to her about it. He just didn't tell her the actual reason.

He looked down at the blue screen that had appeared before him.

[Quest: Find the Stolen heirloom

A golden hairpin that belonged to Bahad's mother was taken away from him when he failed to pay his debt in time. Even after he paid off the debt, the money loaner did not give him the hairpin back, and because he had accepted that condition before taking the loan, he couldn't fight for it.

Find the hairpin and return it to his daughter, so she may keep it.

Reward: 20 points]

The 20 points were a lot of points for him. It was enough points to do something big with it. But, the 20 points also didn't come on their own. He would have to sacrifice something of his own to get that.

Maybe some points, maybe some money. Or maybe he even had to put himself in danger.

In this case, the final possibility seemed more and more real.

Ning knew who the money loaner was. He had heard that name before. It was Umad Tyves, the nobleman and merchant who owned the caravan. He would have to steal from the man.

Ning looked at the woman who fished out the copper coins and wondered if it was a good idea to tell her the actual thing her father wanted. But then, he would have to implicate her in the theft, and it was not a good idea.

She was seemingly already struggling as she was.

"Please test a few hairpins when you are home today. Return tomorrow so I may see if it has worked or not," Ning told her.

The woman slowly nodded, still not entirely sure why her father wanted such a thing. Once the lady left, Ning fell into thought. '20 points for this, huh?' he thought. He knew who took the hairpin, but he didn't know where it was. And it was already the 2nd day of them being here, so there was only tomorrow they could stay here.

After that, they would have to leave on the morning of the 4th day.

Given that Ning spent almost all of his time in the tavern during the day, he could not leave. So, the only times he could work was either tonight or tomorrow night.

In just 2 nights, he would have to break into the house of a nobleman, find an heirloom he knew nothing about, and then get it to this lady.

It was an annoying task to say the same. He was glad that he at least would be getting 20 points for it, or it would have been a waste of time.

Ning continued helping the other people until night fell. Then, it was time to go do a bit of thievery.
