Chapter 140: Bet
Chapter 140: Bet
[Seth's POV:]
"Good work out there. You both majorly did all the job, so for me, you both are the MVPs." True to my words even though I was given the prize of being the most valuable player it was not me who played the most crucial role and led us to the victory.
We achieved the perfect score and on the other side, our rivals only scored one-eighth the total. Thanks to the coordinated work of Ciel and Kevin who let the round transpire so smoothly. I took the role of engaging the defender and the supporter while Ciel transferred all the flags and most importantly, Kevin worked as a supporter as well as a defender.
Thanks to a certain someone the match of four participants turned out to be played by only three.
"Without the President's guidance and perfect planning, we would have never won this round so readily." Ciel praised me back but truth be told I only just laid the framework. To implicate mere words into action is worth complimenting.
"If there's nothing to do, I would be returning to my room." Kevin bid his farewell, retaining his usual demeanor even though while in the battleground, he was flaunting his dominance a lot in front of the crowd. A classic tsundere.
Arata was transported to the infirmary to get his bones healed. He suffered very little pain than I could have inflicted if his foolishness would have cost us this match. I need to win this tournament because the promise I made to Mother and Arata was simply getting in my way. Now I am undecided whether I would be using him in the third round or not.
"Have some rest, Ciel."
"And you, President?" She asked before I turned to look toward the stands before replying, "I want to evaluate our potential rival in the third round."

The stands were somewhat more peaceful and almost one-fourth of the seats were abandoned after the first match. I did know that Pristine Academy was popular but the next match involved the team who has been lifting the trophy for the past two years.
The Carlesthine Academy of Elitwiq undoubtedly holds a large fan base yet the enthusiasm was not the same as when we were battling.
Nevertheless, I took a seat in the VIP lounge granted for participants and some important guests. There were several brackets devoted to VIPs so I didn't have to search for long before I made myself comfortable.
The Erudite Academy of Emangeline was against Carlesthine and I was here to assess only one student amongst the eight.
Maydeath.
In the novel, she was destined to face defeat by the protagonist at the final match of the final round when her dark magic comes into play, and Arata burns her body and soul in the crime of trying to harm the audience in pursuit of more power.
Surely things would not proceed in the same way since not only Arata is weaker than the novel version but the Maydeath everyone knows is not just a single entity, rather it's a blend of two souls.
Whatever card she has in store, I need to study that, since whether she's a friend or foe, on the battlefield I need to beat her by any means possible.
"Team Red, please enter the arena."
A round of applause resonated as team Emangeline walked up to the platform before the announcer called for the second team.
"Team Blue, you may walk up to the stage."
Upon her command, the team from Elitwiq began to march toward the raised platform as well, however, I did not see the face I was eagerly waiting for.
'Where is s-' My thoughts halted midway as I sensed someone behind me.
"Are you looking for me~"
A familiar voice traveled from my rear before I felt a pair of sculpted thin arms hugging my neck and some weight over my left shoulder which signified why her fragrance seemed so elevated so suddenly.
"Aren't you participating?" Maydeath was Elitwiq's ace so for her to skip not one but two rounds was a little suspicious.
"If you let me sit on your lap then I would answer you truthfully."
Even though she said that Maydeath was already making her way in between my arms before she planted her butt over my legs and once again encircled her arms around my neck.
Her crimson gaze wasn't beating even a wink as she constantly stared at me. Kind of bizarre if you may ask.
"Tell me." I urged without paying attention to the reaction from my surroundings. I might get questioned by the Professor in charge but it was not like associating with another team's participant was prohibited.
The proximity between us was getting a little uncomfortable since for some reason she was clinging more and more just because I was not explicitly rejecting her.
"Alright, stop moving and tell me why are you here?"
"Bleh! Stingy... " Even if you suddenly show an adorable gesture, the image of yours burning those many goons couldn't be replaced so easily.
"If you really are curious then my administrator wants to keep me as a hidden card and use me for the final round to win it all. They are aware of my powers but only to some extent so it's inevitable for me to win against these kids."
I didn't reply hastily since I know that if her superiors were holding her for the final round then they must be pretty sure of Maydeath's abilities that she would bring them Gold.
"Aren't they too confident in you?" Even though I have a reputation in school, none of my professors or headmasters ever said that I can win this single-handedly. I have seen Maydeath's skills to a limited range but those spells are mostly not allowed to utilize in the final round so I am skeptical about her overall range.
"Fufufu~ I am not that delicate Miyuki you know of. Now I am strong and have this tournament in my pocket."
"Hmm? Are you sure that you can defeat everyone?"
"Wanna bet?" I raised my brows at that but didn't reply. And Miyuki being Miyuki, she took my silence as a way of affirming before she continued.
"The one who wins this tournament would be granted a wish from the losing party. And if we both don't win, then the bet is dissolved. Simple."
'Fascinating... ' I have things I want to be done and Maydeath's assistance would be of great help. Since I was planning to win this tournament from the start there is nothing I have to do out of the order.
Just thinking about it lifts the edges of my lips...
