Tangling with the Western Commander

Chapter 95 - 92: Piercing the Heart

Chapter 95: Chapter 92: Piercing the Heart

Wen Xian cast her eyes down, unsure of what to say anymore.

The time to leave had finally come, and she couldn’t hold on even if she wanted to; better to preserve the last of her pride.

Lu Xiao was driving, his slender eyes suddenly turning dark and heavy. His throat moved, gripping the steering wheel tightly.

She didn’t know what he was thinking.

After a long while, he managed to blurt out a few words, “That’s for the best.”

Wen Xian: “…”

Even though she knew that was his attitude, hearing him say it out loud still made her heart tremble slightly with an indescribable disappointment and bitterness.

She really was a failure, rarely finding a man so interesting, only to be treated so harshly; maybe this was karma for all the men she had rejected before.

The car fell into an eerie silence.

After her words, the atmosphere became inexplicably stagnant.

Neither of them spoke again until about thirty minutes later when the man suddenly stopped the car.

“Why, why are we stopping?”

Wen Xian asked.

Lu Xiao got out of the car without responding to her.

Wen Xian: “…?”

What was happening? Why did it feel like after she said she wouldn’t bother him anymore, he became even colder towards her…?

Wen Xian watched Lu Xiao get out and decided to follow suit.

Only as she got out did she notice a lake nearby. The lake was broad, as if it lay at the foot of distant mountains.

Lu Xiao walked to the lake without looking back, where a huge rock stood by the water with a simmering pool beneath it, prayer flags fluttering in the air, surrounded by mist.

“This place is so beautiful, what is it called?”

Lu Xiao, without even a glance at her, pulled out a cigarette, placed it between his lips, leaned down to light it, and took a couple of puffs before saying in a detached tone, “Fairy Lake.”

“Ah? Such a mystical name!”

And indeed, it did fit the scene, with the fog wafting at the end of the lake, adding a truly ethereal touch.

“When do we leave?” Wen Xian looked down at the time and asked him.

Unexpectedly, her question seemed to make Lu Xiao lose his patience. He said icily, “What’s the rush? I was the one who rescued you last night, and now you’re in a hurry to leave again. Do you think everyone got enough sleep like you did?”

Wen Xian: “…”n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

Rebuked, she found herself speechless and awkwardly touched her nose, smart enough to stay away from him.

He was clearly in a bad mood now.

Watching her leave, about ten seconds later, Lu Xiao suddenly kicked a stone on the ground and cursed under his breath.

Wen Xian walked back towards the car.

But just as she was walking, a sudden and unexpected scene caught her eye, causing her to widen her eyes in shock.

Perhaps some meters away, a small Tibetan lamb was grazing, isolated and alone, but what mattered was a wolf creeping up on it.

Wen Xian’s breath caught at the sight, and for a moment, she couldn’t move.

At that moment, the wolf had locked onto its prey and swiftly charged at the little lamb.

Just as the lamb was about to fall prey to the wolf, a large, strong male Tibetan sheep suddenly emerged from nowhere and charged directly at the wolf—!

The wolf, not about to give up a meal so close to its jaws, snapped at the ram’s neck and fiercely brought it down to the ground!!

The little lamb, sensing the danger, quickly fled, while its father sacrificed itself to the wolf.

The scene unfolded so abruptly and dramatically, and Wen Xian stood frozen, watching everything unfold before her.

Her fingertips seemed to tingle numbly, a heavy blow seemed to strike her heart, and for an instant, her nerves almost collapsed—!

At that moment, a deep voice suddenly came from behind…
