Chapter 259 (Part 2)
Chapter 259: Controlling Power (Part 2)
“So pathetic. Had I known he’d die this easily, I’d have played with him longer.”
“Indeed, Gabriel.”
“I guess there was no need to take a hostage after all…”
But Gabriel froze mid-sentence.
In his mind, he saw a grim future:
The Black Scythe appearing from the side, cutting him down in three seconds.
Whoosh—!
Gabriel dodged just in time.
Ryu Min’s scythe sliced through the air.
“You avoided it?”
“So, it was only a clone after all.”
Ryu Min didn’t respond. He simply swung his scythe again.
Gabriel scowled, his pride wounded.
“You arrogant human! I’ll crush you in ten seconds!”
The golden chains slithered like snakes, pursuing Ryu Min.
But none found their mark.
Clang! Clang—!
‘Those chains are dangerous. If they wrap around me, I’ll be in trouble.’
Ryu Min knew he couldn’t block them with his scythe either—it risked getting entangled.
He had to either dodge or deflect them briefly.
Gabriel’s mocking voice echoed.
“How long will you keep dodging? Attack me like you did before, coward!”
But Ryu Min wasn’t struggling.
With his agility stat maxed at 588, dodging was effortless.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
‘I’m studying your abilities.’
Ryu Min was gathering information using his Rune of Insight.
Every move, every ability—they were all being analyzed.
The moment he had all the information he needed, Ryu Min changed tactics.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Gabriel’s eyes widened.
“What—!”
Ryu Min’s movements became too fast for even Gabriel’s foresight.
Thwack—! Crash—!
Gabriel was flung into a wall, coughing dust.
“You filthy human…”
But there was no time for insults—Ryu Min had already targeted Raphael.
Slash—!
Thunk—!
Ryu Min’s scythe struck Raphael’s barrier, bouncing off with a surprising amount of force. The weapon rebounded, as if it had hit something soft yet impenetrable, like a balloon.
“Cowardly scum! Attacking an unarmed opponent?”
“Unarmed, huh? You’ve been buffing Gabriel from behind this whole time.”
Gabriel’s recent surge in speed and strength had all been due to Raphael’s blessings. No wonder he was so intent on keeping him safe.
Even so, Raphael’s buffs couldn’t make up for the difference in skill.
Crash!
Once again, Gabriel was hurled across the room, this time slamming into a piece of destroyed furniture. His wings flared as he stabilized himself mid-air, his expression twisted in fury.
“Damn you, human… I’ll grind you to dust!”
“Didn’t you say that 10 seconds ago? Still not done?”
Ignoring the taunt, Gabriel charged forward, his golden chains flaring with an even more chaotic energy.
Clang! Clang! Crash!
The living room was quickly devolving into a battlefield. The sofa was obliterated, the television smashed to bits, and the marble floors cracked under the force of the attacks.
Thwack!
“Gah!”
Yet, Gabriel had not landed a single effective hit.
Only Ryu Min’s scythe sent him flying again and again.
“You bastard!”
As Ryu Min set his sights on Raphael, Gabriel pounced on him like a feral beast.
Gabriel clung to him with desperation, knowing that if Raphael wasn’t protected, they would lose any chance of victory.
‘Why? Why am I losing when I can see three seconds into the future?’
Even with his foresight ability, Gabriel was feeling the frustration of battle. Predicting the path of Ryu Min’s scythe and using his chains to block it shouldn’t have been difficult.
But as Ryu Min’s movements accelerated, even reading the future became a challenge.
It was like his mind couldn’t keep up with his body.
Thwack!
The scythe struck Gabriel, sending him skidding across the room.
He barely managed to stabilize himself with his wings, avoiding a complete fall, but his pride had already taken a devastating hit.
“G-Gabriel,! Your mana reserves are…!”
“You said you’d kill me in ten seconds. Is ten seconds ten hours by your standards?”
“Your arrogance knows no bounds!”
Whether or not he heard Raphael’s warning, Gabriel focused solely on killing the Black Scythe.
The chains lashed out, yet they couldn’t even graze Ryu Min.
Gabriel’s frustration grew as his attacks failed to connect.
Clang! Clang!
Blows were exchanged, but Ryu Min had no intention of killing him yet.
He hadn’t activated the Demon’s Blessing.
‘It’s not that I’m choosing not to use it; the situation doesn’t allow for it.’
To fully benefit from the blessing, Ryu Min needed to activate Reaper Transformation and amplify his stats to their maximum potential.
But using the transformation required equipping Thanatos’s Helmet, which meant removing his current Assassin’s Mask.
‘If I take off the mask, my Lost Ark disguise will disappear. My sibling might discover my identity.’
Although his younger sibling admired the Black Scythe, revealing his true identity at this moment was not ideal.
He planned to explain everything after this ordeal was over.
‘For now, I need to get Won to safety. If I switch helmets here, he’ll see everything.’
To do that, he needed to weaken the archangels significantly, enough to buy his brother time to escape.
However, Gabriel was holding up better than expected. Even though his collapse seemed imminent, he stubbornly endured.
Suddenly, a message appeared:
[The Curse of Slowing has been applied.] [Attack speed and movement speed reduced by 30% temporarily.]
Ryu Min felt his movements slow noticeably.
It was Raphael’s doing.
‘He’s been trying this for a while, and he finally succeeded, huh.’
Ryu Min’s Blessing of the Saintess offered resistance to status effects and a 50% chance to negate debuffs.
‘My resistance only works against status effects. It doesn’t protect me from debuffs.’
It was fortunate the blessing was active. Without it, he would have been hindered by the debuff from the very start.
‘Annoying support.’
Even knowing Raphael was responsible, he couldn’t approach him easily. No matter how many times he sent Gabriel flying, the archangel returned like an unyielding wall to protect him.
Clang! Clang!
While dodging the swinging chains, Ryu Min noticed Gabriel’s eyes flash ominously.
“Die already, human!”
What do you think?
