Chapter 119 - A SUNNY DAY
It was pretty sunny today. The sunlight freely penetrated the Cirrus high above, and the lights then continued to infiltrate the living room's window.
The dazzling light was the culprit that disturbed Kevin's deep slumber. He stirred in his sleep uncomfortably before he opened his eyes slowly. He blinked for a while before he realized that he was not in his room. He was currently in the orphanage living room. He now remembered the event last night.
Yeah, the event when he noticed that his lover had come back to the orphanage but didn't immediately join him in his room. Instead, the taller man chose to stay in the living room. That's why Kevin chose to give in, and then he followed his lover to sleep in the living room last night.
The scientist then lifted his head from the firm 'pillow' beneath him. It was not a real pillow, but it was his lover's broad shoulder. Kevin smiled tenderly as he stared at his lover's sleeping face.
They were sleeping in a sitting position, and Kris was hugging him all night. The taller man probably would feel sore all over his body when he woke up.
Kevin carefully shifted his eyes to the windows, noticing that the curtain had been drawn to let the sunlight lightened the room. Probably Blue was the one who had drawn the curtains.
"Are you awake, Kev?"
The hoarse voice coming from his side made Kevin turn to his lover again. "I am," he answered softly. "Just continue your sleep in the room if you're still tired, Kris. It's not comfortable to sleep here."
Kris's eyes were still closed. He blindly hugged his lover's body and inhaled the scent that he loved so much. "You're the one who forced me to sleep here, Kev," he replied lazily.
The black-haired man giggled and stroked Kris's hair fondly. "I haven't forced you. I was just so comfortable sleeping with you last night, and I didn't even realize that we were sleeping in a sitting position."
The honest and sweet sentence was enough to open Kris's tired eyes. The hazels showed themselves from beneath the lids, and the owner straightened his body gingerly.
"Are you telling the truth?" He then asked in a hopeful tone.
Kevin was a bit confused by the question, though.
"Of course. Have I ever lied to you, Kris? I'm not like you who lied to me all the time."
Kris snorted and released the hug. He then silently stretched out his hand to comb Kevin's messy hair with his long fingers. Kevin's hair was soft and silky, and it easily became messy in any situation. When he just woke up, or when the weather was a bit windy, it got messy easily that Kris assigned his hand to be his lover's personal comb.
The owner of the jet-black locks looked up at the man silently. He could sense that his lover was not feeling good now, and he couldn't help but ask, "What happened on the island yesterday, Kris?"
The hand on top of his head stopped moving. Kris withdrew his hand and gazed at his lover earnestly. "I didn't find anything yesterday. The donor antenna had been taken away by the government," he answered.
"Donor antenna? What's that?" Kevin asked confusedly.
"That's the phone signal booster on the island. I've told you about that before, haven't I?" Kevin nodded at the question, and Kris continued. "I put a chip in the antenna. That chip was able to record phone activity on the island, including the phone numbers of the callers."
Now Kevin understood Kris's original plan. Yesterday his boyfriend didn't tell him anything before he left him on the island with Jack. He had asked for his plan, but Kris didn't give him an answer. He just told him to wait in the city patiently.
The young scientist could see his boyfriend's frustrated expression. He ran his hand on his boyfriend's back and rubbed it gently. "It's okay, Kris. We'll find another clue," he softly replied.
That was just his way to make his lover feel better, though. His vision was still hazy, and he didn't know how to solve the mystery.
Kris looked up at his lover and stared at him intently. His eyes looked tired, but the tiredness gradually vanished when his twin obsidian met with his lover's ones. It seemed like Kevin's eyes had a healing power that could drive his fatigue away.
The atmosphere was quiet and serene. The atmosphere doped the two lover boys, and they slowly moved their faces closer to each other. Kris even started tilting his head to adjust the angle. They were already so close, their lips were almost touching, but...
"Yes, we'll find another clue today."
...that one sentence ruined the romantic atmosphere. The two lover boys were forced to separate their bodies and looked up at the one who just disturbed the moment. And they found Jack and Blue standing at the doorway.
"Way to ruin the mood, Jack!" Kris lazily stated as he leaned his back on the back of the couch.
Kevin blinked confusedly, but then he shook his head. "You two are naughty. I could sense your presence, but I thought you wouldn't barge in."
Jack just shrugged and walked over to the couch. He sat down on the couch opposite Kevin and Kris, and Blue sat down next to him
"We didn't barge in, Brother. We have our keys, and this orphanage is technically our home," the young girl chimed in.
Kris rolled his eyes when he heard the reply, and that was the moment when he caught a glimpse of something in Jack's hand. "What is that?" He asked in a curious tone.
Jack looked down at the object in his hand. "It's Serein City map," he answered as he put the map on the table. "We went to a print shop to print Serein City map just now."
The map that had been rolled up earlier now was laid out on the table. It was just a normal map of the city, printed on A3-sized paper.
Kris and Kevin looked down at the map. "Why did you print the city map?" Kevin was the one who asked.
"Kris hasn't told you about our plan?" Jack asked back instead of answering.
Kevin turned to Kris and gave him a questioning look. The latter sighed and explained, "Jack said that your father mentioned a place name when he called the mysterious person, but he didn't remember the place name. That's why we planned to find the city on the map. It's a primitive way, but Jack insisted on doing this primitive way."
After getting an explanation, the young scientist turned back to the map on the table. "Why are you so sure that the place is in Serein and not in other cities, Jack?" He asked as he looked up at Jack.
The tattooed man stared at the scientist and answered, "I tried to recollect some information in my mind last night, and I remembered that Professor Joseph also mentioned this city with that place name."
"You tried to recollect pieces of information last night? Don't make me laugh, Jack. I know you snored right away after we came back from the island."
Hearing the insult, Jack shifted his gaze away from Kevin and gawked at Kris, who just mocked him annoyedly.
"What's your problem? The one who should be upset is me! Not you, Kris!"
"What? Do you think I'm not upset because of you, Jack?"
"Ah, you're upset because of me? Because of what I said last night?"
"Yes! And I think I know why you're upset with me, Jack!
Kevin and Blue felt like they were left behind and didn't understand what the two men arguing.
"Can you two stop fighting like kids and start explaining what are you talking about?" Kevin was the one who boldly intervened in the 'fight.'
Kris was surprised by the words and instantly straightened his back that leaned on the couch before. He then turned to his lover and stared at him blankly. He was now confused about how should he explain the situation to his lover.
"You need an explanation, Kevin? I can give you one if you want to," Jack suddenly chimed in. He looked at the young scientist with a playful gaze and was even grinning like Joker.
Kris's eyes widened before turning to Jack. He glared at Jack, giving a non-verbal warning to the blonde.
Kevin noticed the non-verbal gesture and could feel that something was not right between Kris and Jack. He was sure that something happened in their trip yesterday, and he suddenly felt uneasy for no reason.
"What, Kris? You don't want me to explain it to your boyfriend?" Jack asked in a mocking tone as he smirked evilly at the caramel-haired man.
Kris's jaw tightened, and he clenched his fists. Kevin, who was sitting beside him, noticed the reaction before he patted his lover's shoulder. "Let's not talk about it now. Let's find out about that place first," he spoke in a cold tone.
The rare tone made Kris flinch. He hurriedly turned to Kevin, but the latter didn't return his gaze. The young scientist just coldly stared at the map on the table. Kris knew that Kevin was upset.
