Chapter 176
After the assistant finished tidying everything up, she reminded, "Sis, don't forget to rest in your room." Jing Zejun softly replied, "Okay." It was clear from her voice that she was already nearly asleep.
Early the next morning, there was a knock at the door. Jing Zejun lazily rolled over, feeling a slight chill that helped bring her to consciousness.
She slowly sat up, put on her slippers, and went to open the door.
Thinking it was her assistant Qiqi, Jing Zejun didn't pay attention to the person behind her after opening the door, turning instead to head to the bathroom to get ready.
"Qiqi, did you sleep well last night?"
Jing Zejun's voice came from the bathroom. When she didn't hear her assistant's response, she didn't think anything of it.
She continued talking to herself, "You know what? I dreamed all night long. Guess who I dreamed about?" As she spoke, Jing Zejun walked out of the bathroom.
"Who did you dream about?"
Standing at the doorway was Wen Qingyan, holding breakfast in his hands and smiling at Jing Zejun.
Jing Zejun felt dazed for a moment. Was she still not fully awake? Was this still part of her dream?
Seeing her confused expression, Wen Qingyan smiled tenderly and said, "I could keep standing at the door, but the others will probably wake up soon..."
Jing Zejun snapped back to reality and hurriedly invited Wen Qingyan in.
"Brother Qingyan, why did you come so early?"
Wen Qingyan placed the items he was carrying on the table and began laying out the breakfast items one by one.
"I noticed you seemed interested in the hotel's breakfast, so I brought you some."
Jing Zejun was slightly stunned, feeling a warmth spreading through her heart. What touched her wasn't that Wen Qingyan had gotten up early to bring her breakfast, but that she had only briefly mentioned the hotel's breakfast yesterday.
"Come try it." Though he had brought many varieties, the portions were small.
Jing Zejun smiled gently, her eyes lighting up with joy.
"Have you eaten?"
Wen Qingyan shook his head with a smile; of course, he hadn't come just to deliver breakfast.
Jing Zejun invited Wen Qingyan to sit down and eat together. She sat on the sofa and picked up a crab roe soup dumpling, the city's signature dish that Jing Yi had mentioned to her several times before she left.
The dumpling was slightly hot, with skin as thin as paper and delicious crab roe soup bursting in her mouth.
"How is it? Is it good?"
Instead of eating right away, Wen Qingyan waited for Jing Zejun's review.
Jing Zejun nodded with a smile, "It's delicious!" Wen Qingyan gazed at her, his expression softening with affection.
Seeing her enjoying the food, Wen Qingyan also picked up a soup dumpling to taste. It was indeed quite good.
"By the way, who did you say you dreamed about earlier?"
Jing Zejun paused briefly, coughing lightly with a flash of panic in her eyes. "Oh? No one, I was just joking with Qiqi, haha."
Wen Qingyan raised an eyebrow but didn't pursue the matter further.
Jing Zejun lowered her head to eat the other breakfast items, though compared to the amazing soup dumpling, the rest seemed rather tasteless.
It wasn't just about the food; it was also the influence of the person sitting beside her.
At that moment, her assistant pushed open the door from outside, also carrying breakfast.
While closing the door and watching the breakfast in her hands, she said, "Sis, are you up? Look what I brought you! Yesterday you said you wanted to eat..."
The assistant's eyes widened when she saw Wen Qingyan sitting on the sofa. Her first thought was: Did Wen Qingyan sleep here last night?! Should she notify Manager Qing to start preparing the relationship PR strategy?!
"It's not what you're thinking, he just brought me breakfast."
The assistant sat on the sofa, eating the breakfast she had brought – she had no choice since her artist had already been fed by someone else's artist.
Well, at least Wen Qingyan hadn't spent the night here.
"Sis, are you sure you don't want me to prepare some PR strategies first?"
Even though... she still thought it would be better to have plans ready in advance.
Jing Zejun poked her head out from the bathroom, "What nonsense are you talking about! Just eat your breakfast, we need to go to rehearsal soon."
The assistant ate her sandwich while watching Jing Zejun's flustered retreat, sighing lightly. It was bound to happen sooner or later, so why try to hide it?
She had watched Jing Zejun's changes all along, and she didn't believe Jing Zejun had no feelings at all.
...
Jing Yi had officially begun her daily preparation for the GT Cup. Apart from occasional 'harassment' calls from Shen Huaichu, everything was going quite smoothly.
The phone rang right on schedule. Jing Yi helplessly took off her helmet, placed it on the car roof, and answered the phone, though a careful look would reveal a smile in her eyes.
Jing Yi's voice carried a teasing tone, "Mr. Shen, punctual as always with your check-in."
On the other end, Shen Huaichu's lips curved in an almost imperceptible smile. "What can I do? My girlfriend is too free-spirited, so I can only be a 'supportive partner' quietly."
The smile in Jing Yi's eyes grew stronger. "Well then, dear supportive partner, what have you been up to today?"
Shen Huaichu looked toward the overseas business delegation examining the project in the distance. "Investigating investment projects."
Jing Yi clicked her tongue a couple of times, pretending to be dissatisfied. "Aren't you supposed to be my supportive partner? How come your own career is flourishing so well?"
"What should I do then? Come keep you company?"
Shen Huaichu's slightly parted thin lips held a faint smile. He was serious – if Jing Yi agreed, he could return immediately.
Jing Yi leaned against the race car, her face blooming with a bright, heartfelt smile.
"Mr. Shen, you're so clingy."
Jing Yi had never let Shen Huaichu come to watch her train, and this time was no different. Shen Huaichu didn't particularly like racing, and she didn't want him to feel uncomfortable in any way.
She coaxed him, "You be good and focus on work, that way I'll have something to brag about when I introduce you to others!" Shen Huaichu lowered his eyes and laughed softly, his heart melting with tenderness as he said, "Alright."
After a few minutes, Shen Huaichu hung up the phone, still looking reluctantly at the name displayed on his screen. He had never known he could become such a romantically sentimental person.
"Mr. Shen."
A middle-aged man in a suit approached – the director of the cooperating business association.
Aliali: 67568ca3bd5e46c308c835f5Shen Huaichu put away his phone, returning to his usual cool and detached demeanor.
"Chairperson Chen."
The middle-aged man had noticed his demeanor while on the phone, and being experienced in such matters, he knew the other party had been talking to his girlfriend.
He joked, "Checking in with your better half?"
Shen Huaichu was momentarily stunned before understanding the middle-aged man's meaning. The phrase was rather novel to him.
With a barely noticeable smile at the corner of his mouth, Shen Huaichu replied, "No, I was reporting my work." Chairperson Chen was taken aback, thinking he had misunderstood.
But then he realized – Shen Huaichu was the CEO himself, who would he need to report to?
Tsk tsk tsk, "reporting work" – especially with Shen Huaichu saying it with such a straight face, the impact was at least doubled.
Chairperson Chen gave a dry laugh, suppressing the goosebumps all over his body, exchanged a few pleasantries, and quickly left.
It was too much to handle – at his age, he still had to witness these young people showing off their romance.
