Chapter 31 - Arrival! President Yan!
Chapter 31: Arrival! President Yan!
“President, that ghost changed direction twice today. I think it must have discovered something.”
Late at night, the middle-aged woman stopped on a small hill with a few others and spoke to the woman beside her.
This woman was the owner of the red paper man, none other than President Yan.
It was clear that upon hearing the middle-aged woman’s report, President Yan had rushed out of the city overnight.
“Changed direction twice? That means whatever it’s looking for might have appeared but then disappeared or hid for some reason,” President Yan speculated.
“I think that’s likely the case,” the middle-aged woman replied.
President Yan asked, “Its powers grow stronger at night, making it harder for you to track. You’ve been chasing it for several days now, so take a good rest while you can. Did you see its form?”
The middle-aged woman responded, “Yes, it’s a red garment, much like a traditional bridal gown from ancient times.”
“A bridal gown, huh? Then let’s call it the Bridal Gown Ghost,” President Yan said.
“Yes, President,” the middle-aged woman said as she transmitted an image through her communicator.
—
Cooo~
In a graveyard, a cooing sound echoed.
Suddenly, a piercing scream rang out, and the cooing stopped.
“A mere ordinary-grade trash dares to come out and scare people. Overestimating itself,” a voice spoke.
Immediately after, two figures swiftly moved through the overgrown graveyard.
Their destination was Xiaofeng Mountain.
Even within the defensive perimeter, there were still plenty of ghosts. Ordinary people working outside the city only dared to use fixed routes when returning, avoiding random wandering.
Those routes were frequently patrolled by vehicles and ghost controllers, making them relatively safe.
But for these two ghost controllers planning to kill Lin Feng, these scattered ghosts were of no concern.
They moved quickly.
Old Guo walked silently.
The other ghost controller, Qi Ping, cursed from time to time. To avoid any unexpected incidents and reach their destination quickly, they took a path overgrown with weeds, which made it difficult to walk and occasionally led to encounters with ghosts.
Whenever they encountered a ghost, Qi Ping was the one who took action.
—
The night sky was clear, and without pollution, the stars were exceptionally bright.
The moon was particularly bright tonight.
Finally, after several hours of walking, they approached Xiaofeng Mountain.
By this time, it was around three or four in the morning, and the moon was still hanging in the east.
“Old Guo, that kid must still be sleeping. There’s an ancient saying about the perfect time for murder, something about a dark, windy night, right? Well, except for the bright moon, tonight seems to fit.”
Perhaps because they were close, Qi Ping, despite looking tired, seemed quite excited.
“Has He Hai sent any messages?” Old Guo asked.
Qi Ping checked his communicator. “No, no messages, which should mean everything is normal. That kid couldn’t possibly stay awake all night. We’ve been on the move for two days straight, and to be honest, I could sleep standing up. Boss, should we rest for a bit?”
Old Guo replied, “No need. Lin Feng’s ghost spirit is at most Hazard Grade. Both He Hai and I are Level 4 ghost controllers. Although you’re a Level 3 ghost controller, your ghost spirit domain is strong. Even if Lin Feng’s ghost spirit is good at escaping, it won’t get away! Send a message to check He Hai’s status. We’ll strike immediately.”
“Yes, Old Guo!” Qi Ping took out his communicator and started sending a message.
—
“Lin Feng?”
Neither Old Guo nor Qi Ping noticed.
While they were talking, a red paper airplane silently flew by in the night sky, overhearing their conversation.
“These guys are planning something against Lin Feng!” On the other side, President Yan’s gaze turned cold, and her aura grew frosty.
“What’s wrong, President?” The middle-aged woman and the other ghost controllers, who had been sleeping in the grass, were startled awake.
“Remember the young man I mentioned? He’s not a psychic, yet at fifteen, he already possesses a hazard-grade ghost spirit and has consecutively killed several hazard-grade ghosts. His ghost spirit must be outstanding. Now, three ghost controllers have set their sights on him, intending to kill him while his bond with the ghost spirit is low and steal it.” President Yan stood up.
“These guys! They’re so reckless!” The middle-aged woman snorted.
“Let’s go to Xiaofeng Mountain and see if we can make it in time. If not, my paper man will go down first to stop them. If we make it, well…” President Yan chuckled coldly.
The middle-aged woman said, “If they see the President’s paper man, those three will surely back off.”
President Yan shook her head. “Not necessarily. There are plenty of desperate people. If they manage to capture Lin Feng’s ghost spirit, they’ll be a big problem if they flee north or south with it. So let’s hurry, and I’ll notify Lin Feng as well.”
—
While President Yan and the middle-aged woman were talking, the paper airplane silently flew through the sky, heading toward Xiaofeng Mountain.
It was looking for Lin Feng.
—
Up in the tree branches, Lin Feng was already awake.
He Hai’s communicator vibrated.
Lin Feng opened it to see a message from Qi Ping!
“He Hai, we’re almost there. Is Lin Feng still around?” Qi Ping asked.
“They’re here?” Lin Feng looked down the mountain.
His physical fitness was now equivalent to five times that of an ordinary person.
Naturally, his vision was quite good as well.
However, since it was nighttime and Old Guo and Qi Ping were still some distance away and being cautious, Lin Feng couldn’t see them yet.
After waiting for a dozen seconds, Lin Feng picked up He Hai’s communicator and replied, “Lin Feng is still here. He’s sleeping in a pavilion at the foot of the mountain. Come to the previous hill first.”
“Got it! We’ll be there in less than half an hour.” Qi Ping’s reply came quickly.
“Half an hour, huh?” Lin Feng jumped down from the tree branch, ready to take action.
At this moment, suddenly, Tongtong moved.
She positioned herself in front of Lin Feng.
Then, Lin Feng noticed something moving because of her actions…
It was swiftly flying toward them.
“A bird?” But as the object got closer, Lin Feng realized it was a paper airplane.
As the paper airplane approached, it quickly transformed.
In a matter of seconds, it turned from a paper airplane… into a red paper man!
The red paper man!
“It’s you?” Lin Feng naturally remembered it.
“That’s right, it’s me,” the red paper man said.
Its voice was no longer deliberately hoarse, sounding rather pleasant.
The red paper man’s gaze scanned Lin Feng before resting on Tongtong for several seconds.
“Your ghost spirit is indeed extraordinary, and it seems your bond with it is stronger than I imagined… I’m beginning to suspect that you might be another, even rarer type of psychic that’s difficult to detect,” the red paper man said.
Hearing this, Lin Feng didn’t argue.
For an ordinary person to grow so quickly, it would indeed seem unusual. If the red paper man wanted to come up with a theory, Lin Feng was fine with it.
It could save him some trouble.
“Are you also looking for that ghost?” Lin Feng asked.
“That’s right. Your talent is not only impressive, but you’re also quite brave, and it seems your luck is good too, as you’ve managed to avoid encountering it. But have you forgotten what I told you? The most dangerous thing is not the ghost but the people. Now, you’re in trouble. Some ghost controllers are targeting you. There’s a path down the mountain on this side. Head west. I’m on my way and can help you deal with them,” the red paper man said.
“Trouble… are you referring to those two ghost controllers approaching from the east?” Hearing the red paper man’s words, Lin Feng calmly asked.
The red paper man’s lively eyes showed surprise. “You know?”
Lin Feng replied, “Of course, I know.”
The red paper man looked at Lin Feng in surprise again and said, “You know, yet you’re still here? Don’t tell me you think you can handle them?”
