Chapter 185: Minotaur Bai Song
Chapter 185: Minotaur Bai Song
The explosive sound was undeniably thunderous, comparable to the sudden explosion of a firecracker tossed near your feet while you leisurely strolled down a rural path. The shock would surely stop your heart without a doubt.
At least, Bai Song, who had just heard the explosive sound, was so startled that he almost fell off the "dog-powered" cart. Even Tom, wrapped around Bai Song's neck, was equally terrified. If he hadn't known beforehand that this was a cat, one could easily mistake him for a startled hedgehog.
However, Spike, serving as the driving force for the "dog-powered" cart, showed no reaction whatsoever. If you're wondering why Spike remained unfazed, the explanation lies in the fact that he had become numb to such sudden noises.
During its time with the previous owner, Spike hadn't experienced a single peaceful nap, constantly bombarded by sounds of explosions, collapses, shattering, and the like. Having grown accustomed to these noises, Spike had developed the superpower of facing any abrupt sound calmly.
But if it had a choice, it would gladly trade that superpower for a peaceful nap.
Unfortunately, it seemed that the more it longed for a tranquil sleep, the less likely it was to attain it.
With Bai Song regaining his balance on the "dog-powered" cart, he gazed at the sky with a mix of shock and awe. "What the heck was that noise?!"
Yet as Bai Song looked up, there was nothing left in the sky except for a long white trail, and the clouds above were thoroughly disturbed. It was as though throwing a stone into stagnant smoke caused ripples to form within the smoke.
This scene in the sky was an amplified version of that phenomenon.
Without a doubt, something incredibly fast had streaked through the sky just moments ago, leaving behind a long white trail that persisted in the sky. However, it would eventually dissipate.
Not only Bai Song and his beloved cat, but all the nearby pedestrians had also turned their astonished gazes toward the sky, attempting to discern whether it was a detonation or something else.
"Could it be a gas explosion?!"
"You fool, how could there be a gas explosion in the sky?"
"Then maybe it's a natural gas explosion!"
As the surrounding people gazed at the sky and engaged in discussions, Bai Song's eyes lit up. This was a perfect opportunity! In other words, no one was paying attention to him now. Wasn't this the chance he had been waiting for to make a swift getaway?!
Bai Song tugged at Spike's leash and pointed his red spear forward, shouting solemnly, "Forward!"
Ignoring his attire, the thing he was riding, and the thing he was pulling... well, if you only heard the sound, it did sound quite majestic... right?
Feeling the collar jostle, Spike turned around to look, his eyes fixated on the red spear.
"Groan... groan..." Spike murmured softly, torn between running and refusing to run. Who would set such a confusing trap for a dog?
Not having a share of the meal during lunch was already enough to make Spike feel sad. And now, having finally snatched that tender, reddish bone from another dog's mouth through considerable effort, his owner swooped in and took it away once he finished his own meal.
For Spike, this was like being interrupted during his honeymoon night just as he was about to lick his wife's face. However, such was the life of a dog. Since there was no way to resist, he could only passively accept it.
While Spike continued to complain inwardly, he decisively picked up his pace and pulled the "dog-powered" cart forward. After all, Spike was a dog with dreams. What if... what if he ran fast enough this time and his owner gave him back his wife (the bone)?
Waiting and holding onto hope, just as Bai Song had thought, even as he sped along the street, not many people paid attention to him. After all, strange occurrences happened every year, and this year seemed to have more than its fair share.
The peculiar noise from the sky was evidently far more fascinating than Bai Song, who was an eccentric character in his own right.
"Boom!!!" Before Bai Song could escape far, an even more thunderous explosion resonated from a distance. It was as if a meteor had struck the Earth, though even if it were a meteor, it was probably on the smaller side in terms of yield.
Moreover, the sound of the explosion originated from the end of the trajectory in the sky, ruling out the possibility of it being a meteor. The flight path of a meteor wouldn't resemble the white trail in the sky.
However, since it wasn't a meteor, there was a high likelihood that it was caused by someone or an attack. If it was just Servants duking it out and the fallen object was an attack, then it might be acceptable within Bai Song's scope.
But if it was a 'person', things would get complicated. Bai Song had never heard of anyone surviving a supersonic collision with the ground and remaining unscathed!
Considering all this, Bai Song had no intention of getting closer to the commotion, nor did he want to glance over too much. He didn't want to risk getting into a confrontation that might escalate into a fight within five seconds after a series of exchanges like "What are you looking at?" "What's it to you?" "Want to try looking again?" "Yeah, wanna try?"
After confirming that the explosion came from straight ahead, Bai Song decisively chose his path. He tugged on Spike's leash and turned right onto a side road. After a few bends, he quickly and decisively distanced himself from the area.
His current goal was to find the darned electric bike shop, buy a battery, and then have either Tom or Jerry modify the bike for him. He wanted to avoid any unnecessary complications for now. His top priority was to modify the electric bike and get ready for the racing competition starting the next morning.
Winning the championship would grant him another chance to summon a new Servant. What else was there to consider? He needed to go for it, and he needed to go all in no holding back!
