Chapter 142 The New Apartment
"Thanks for waiting," Arthur said to the technician and got into the truck.
"No problem. Let's get going. It might take us a while to get there." The technician said while the second one started the truck.
Arthur sat at the front while the Dream Pod V3 was stored at the back and properly secured so as to prevent any damage.
"You said it might take us longer? Is there an issue?" Arthur asked as he knees that it took an hour to get there anyways.
"Yeah, they have the maintenance work going on along the road again." The technician replied.
"Again? Didn't they do that just two weeks ago? I recall reading about it." Arthur asked.
"I don't know exactly. Something about ensuring all standards are met to prevent any damage from the tremors." The technician answered.
"Hmm… if it's to do that, it does make sense," Arthur replied. 'Though the preparations will all be useless when the true earthquake comes.' He remembered the one that would come in a year's time.
Arthur had avoided it back then, but there were people who had suffered from it. Of course, it was nothing on the level of the Earthquake that Arthur had died in.
It didn't result in that many deaths, and most of the loss were in the form of infrastructure.
Of course, it was still a shock to most and would be the start of the spread of the earthquakes.
Arthur watched the road go by as they traveled towards his new apartment. And sure enough, halfway through he saw several road blocks that reduced their speed. It resulted in a few traffic jams that almost doubled the time needed for them to reach Honeysuckle street.
In the end, it was nearly 1 pm when they reached the Honeysuckle street.
"Is this the right place?" The technician asked.
"Yeah, it's correct." Arthur confirmed.
"Let me park, then new can get to moving." He said, quickly moving to the external parking lot.
A minute later, they got down.
"We'll bring the Dream Pod V3. You can go ahead." The technician suggested.
"Sure, I'll get the things in order." Arthur replied.
It would still take them a few minutes to unload everything and Arthur needed to get the key for the apartment anyways.
"Good afternoon, Mister Grey!" The concierge in the lobby greeted Arthur.
"Ah, is the apartment ready? I'll need the key to move things." Arthur replied.
"Of course. Property Manager got everything ready for you." The concierge said before taking out the key which was in the form of a metal card. "You can use this."
"Thanks!" Arthur replied, taking the key card.
"Once you use the key, you are advised to register your biometrics in the lock. After that, you don't need the key anymore. Losing the key can be a security risk." The concierge added.
"Sure, I'll do that." Arthur nodded his head. "Oh, and the movers will bring some stuff up. Can you guide them to the apartment?" he asked.
"Of course." The concierge said with a smile.
With that sorted, Arthur quickly took the elevator and went up to his apartment.
~click~
He held the key card over the door, prompting it to unlock.
"That looks good." Arthur glanced at the apartment that had been prepared for him.
It was cleaned to the point of being spotless and everything was placed in the right spots.
Arthur walked in to take a look at the things he had requested as well.
"They certainly added the high voltage power socket." Arthur glanced at the first important thing.
Next he checked for the internet connection and its speed which was working perfectly as always and at a high speed.
~Roll~
Arthur opened up the glass door that led to the balcony and took in the vast cityscape ahead.
A cool breeze blew while pale skies could be seen with some clouds spread in between.
It was a pleasant scene and gave Arthur a sense of comfort that he hadn't felt for a long time.
"This would be nice to wake up to." Arthur muttered as he watched it for five minutes.
~DING~
After that though, the bell was heard, prompting Arthur to check the door.
On the intercom screen, he could see a few people standing outside.
"Johan?" Arthur saw the property manager there as well.
~click~
He unlocked the door, allowing the men waiting outside in.
"Good Afternoon," Johan said with a professional smile.
"You were free, Property Manager?" Arthur inquired.
"Of course. How could I let our tenant move in without greeting him formally on the first day?" Johan replied before glancing at the technicians. "I guess you're bringing some heavy equipment."
"Indeed," Arthur said before looking at the technicians. "You can start setting it near the balcony. The high voltage port is there." He pointed.
"We'll get to it," The technicians said before bringing the parts in.
"I see that you've checked whether things are up to the mark, as you requested?" Johan asked.
"Of course. I got all that I needed." Arthur replied. "Though I'm surprised you could get the high voltage socket finished this quickly."
"We have our own team of electricians, so it is never an issue," Johan answered. "Not just that, but if you ever have any electrical problems, you can always contact the lobby and they'll send in help for you." He added.
"Living in a good apartment building certainly comes with its conveniences." Arthur was pleased.
"Of course. At Wisteria Apartments, we strive to be the best." Johan said in a professional manner. "So if you ever need to inquire anything extra that the concierge cannot answer, you can always talk to me. I'm usually present here." He added.
"I see… that'll be good." Arthur hadn't expected the property manager to give free rein to call him for issues.
Regardless of it all, Arthur was pleased with it all and was satisfied with the choice that he had made.
"I'll leave you to get settled in then. Goodbye!" Johan said before taking his leave.
