Chapter 903 How To Split Your Mind
"Ok, you can send these fifty to this floor and they should be able to clear them out. Then this floor… I think we might need a little more so I'll send a hundred. As for this floor. Looks pretty small and the Monster Girls there don't look too strong… I think fifteen will do… No scratch that. We might as well be safe. Twenty it is."
"Ermm… Excuse me?"
I turned to look at Verdam with a tilt of my head, "What is it?"
"I'm not dreaming am I? This is actually real? No… Are these illusions?" He asked, looking pointedly at the rows upon rows of my Shadow Guards all lining up to wait their turn to be sent to a Dungeon floor.
"I assure you that they are all real," I told him as a matter of factly. "Didn't you already use your [Screened] to see their stats already?"
"Yeah… I see it… But I'm still working on believing it… What kind of magic is this?"
"Well… Let's just say that I managed to get my hands on an artefact that allowed me to do this."
"An artefact that allows you to create… Literal copies of yourself? Wait… Are they sentient or are you controlling them yourself?"
"They're sentient… I think? I mean… I can still take control over them like this."
I concentrated for a moment and linked my consciousness with another Shadow Guard to move her beside me.
Syncing her movements with me, I gave him a wave and a smile before releasing my control over her, allowing that Shadow Guard to return to where she was before.
He looked at the Shadow Guard I just controlled, then at me, then back at the Shadow Guard.
"How… How many can you control at once?"
I paused, "That's… A Good question… I never tried before… Let me see…"
I tried to join my consciousness up with my Shadow Guards.
The first one was easy since I literally just did it and I managed to do it within just a second.
Maintaining my connection with the first one, I joined with the third, then a fourth, and a firth, and sixt, seventh and wow… Even eight?
I continued to connect my mind to my Shadow Guards until I reached fifteen and I stopped.
Hold on… that's not right… Why is this so easy? This shouldn't be this easy…
Wait, I've only been connecting my mind to them but not exactly trying to move them… So what if I start moving them?
I raised my right hand and all of them raised their hands together.
Huh… That's also pretty easy…
I mean… I've done this with like… Only a handful of Shadow Guards before so this was my first time trying to connect myself to this many of them…
Hmm… What if I tried to get them to do something else? Make each of the bodies I was connected to do something different from each other?
I tried to make some of them raise their left hands while the others raised their right hands instead.
And there it was…
The moment I tried to do that, I found that it was almost impossible to do it. It's like trying to lift up your hand and put it down at the same time.
No wait… If I were to concentrate a little more… Separate each of the Shadow Guards into individual targets and try to-- Ahhhhhh!!
A sudden pain wrecked through my head when I tried to concentrate even more, the feeling akin to my head being split open.
I quickly retracted my mind from the Shadow Guards I had been linked with, retreating my mind back into my own and severing the connection.
I curled up and clutched my head, trying my best to ease the pain.
Ok… So if I were to make the Shadow Guards that I was linked with do something different, I might get a backlash if I force it too hard and hurt myself in the process.
But this is odd… I could control like two or three of them at the same time before… It was definitely not easy but it didn't hurt me like this… So why does it hurt that much now? Is it because of the number I was controlling? That's the reason, isn't it?
"Err… You ok?" Verdam asked, concern in his voice.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
"Yeah… Owww… Just tried to do something stupid…"
He turned to the fifteen Shadow Guards that I had moved in front of me, "Did you just try to control fifteen people at once?"
"Unnghh… I was doing ok wasn't I? If I made everyone do the same thing, it wasn't a problem… But if I try to make everyone do different things, it felt like my head was being split open…"
Mother appeared behind me and hovered her hand over my head. Light then emanated from her palm and the pain quickly disappeared.
"There you go my little one~" She cooed.
"Mmm… Thank you, Mommy."
Verdam turned to me, "Mommy? Oh, that's kinky."
Oh yeah… He still thinks that Mother was just another Monster Girl I picked up in the Dungeon. Well, I saw no reason to correct that misunderstanding so I didn't say anything about that.
Surprisingly though, Mother chimed in, "Oh my little one~ To control multiple bodies would require you to split your mind into different parts to control each body. You are still not used to doing so many splits all at once. Perhaps start out with just a few and work your way up, my little one."
Well… That explains I suppose… And I'm not even surprised to see that Mother even knew about this enough to advise me on it…
So I guess if I want to control more of them, I just need to practice more.
Verdam looked at Mother for a moment before turning back to me, "But still… If you're not controlling them directly right now… That means they are pretty much sentient or autonomous right now, right?"
I straightened myself, "That's right. Eins?"
Eins stepped beside me, "I am here, Master."
He pointed at her, "You named them? Wait… If this one has a name… That means…"
I shrugged, "I'm not really sure if they actually operate on a hive mind but they kind of feel like individual people at least. Zwei?"
"Over here, Master," Zwei responded, appearing beside Eins.
Verdam looked at Zwei, then at Eins, then back at me.
"Isn't this like… Really overpowered?"
I pointed at him, "You literally have the power to create any Monster Girl you want and you say this is overpowered?"
"I need Mana Crystals to do that! What about you?"
"I need to consume all of my mana just to summon one."
"But they're permanent summons? And you keep them in your shadow?"
"Yeah…"
"And how many of them do you have in that shadow of yours?"
"... I don't want to say."
"Yeah, you're more overpowered than I am."
I shrugged, "Never denied that this skill of mine is overpowered. There's a reason why I want to keep it a secret. Apparently people will kill just to get this ability of mine."
"I can see why… Dude, you could just solo Dungeons with this skill. Heck, if you wanted to, you could even use this to found your own country! This ability is insane!"
I wagged my finger at him, "Remember… You're not supposed to tell anyone about this."
He made a zipping motion with his mouth, "Yes, yes, my lips are sealed. But… Hey… Do you think you can teach me this skill? Just think of all the things I could do with this!"
I tilted my head at him, "What are you thinking of using this skill for?"
"Obviously to have a massive orgy with my Monster Girls! Do you know how demanding they can get? I can just summon a clone of myself and just let them deal with them instead while I work on my Dungeon."
Not gonna lie, when I heard him say the first part of his argument, I thought he was just going to use it for degenerate reasons but it seems like he's actually more of a workaholic instead.
He then turned to me, "What about you? What are you planning to use this skill for? No wait, I can already see that you're basically using this to solo Dungeons aren't you? That would explain why you managed to get here this fast…"
I didn't really use them for this Dungeon to get here but he doesn't need to know that.
"Sorry, but this skill basically came from consuming an artefact so it can't be taught," I explained.
"Ah, that's a bummer then…"
"Master?"
I turned to Eins who had called out to me, wondering what she wanted.
"All the floors that we have been sent to have been cleared of Monsters. Shall we come back?"
Wait? Already?! I literally just sent you guys out like… Not even half an hour ago and you've already cleared those floors? You girls are more professional at speed running than I am!
