Contract Marriage: Emperor CEO's Secretary Wife

Chapter 219 - Reason for his disappearance

Chapter 219 - Reason for his disappearance

"Tell me. Why were you completely unreachable yesterday?" Xiu Mei asked in a serious tone while sitting comfortably on the far end of the couch at the President’s office. She kept her distance from the President who was sitting behind his office table while flashing a look of amus.e.m.e.nt to where she was seated.

She would sometimes avoid looking at his eyes and sometimes throw a glare in his direction. She couldn’t help it. Lu Chen suddenly became too sticky with her this morning.

He was still acting like a decent human after breakfast. But as soon as they’ve dropped of Lu Qiang at school, It was like he transformed into a different person.

He didn’t push her down or attacked her or anything but... his way of displaying affection undoubtedly became more obvious.

His arm was stuck on her waist while he was busy reading the reports, and then he didn’t even let go of her once they arrived at the office forcing her to come with him to work. He was almost hugging her while walking towards the elevator, and thankfully Thank god for the newly built private elevator or she wouldn’t dare to go to the office anymore if they were seen like that.

She could barely show her face with just holding hands, she’ll probably go into hiding for years if someone saw them sticking so close to each other like that.

The amused expression on the face of the culprit cracked. Xiu Mei didn’t miss his slip up and narrowed her eyes at him. Lu Chen quickly avoided his gaze and continued working on the papers on his desk.

Xiu Mei’s brows furrowed even more as she grew more suspicious.

He’s definitely hiding something!!!

But she didn’t push him for answers. She was almost a hundred percent sure where he’d gone yesterday. Besides, she knew very well that he did not want her to be entangled in that kind of place.

As much as she wants to pry, she wouldn’t do it. The anguish and despair on his face when she woke up in the hospital after her recent kidnapping was etched in her mind.

And she knew that getting herself curious about the underworld could possibly endanger not only her life but also Lu Qiang’s. Since Lu Chen wanted to protect his family so much, then she could only try to support him in the ways that she can.

"I’ll go home for today." She announced, putting down the business magazine she was reading on the coffee table. Lu Chen suddenly became agitated as guilt appeared on his face.

He stood up.

"Are you angry?" Lu Chen asked nervously thinking that she was mad at him again.

Xiu Mei stifled a chuckle while shaking her head. "No."

"But you’re suddenly leaving. So you’re angry." He held her arm as if he was clinging to her.

"I’m not angry."

"Is it because I dodged your question?"

"No, it’s not really because of that. I swear I’m not mad or anything. I just wanna go home to get some sleep, that’s all."

Lu Chen fell silent for a moment while staring at her. And then, he lifted his hand to her neck and shoulder that was covered by her turtleneck sweater. Thankfully, the weather is cold so no one would be suspicious why she was covering herself so much today.

Strangely, she could feel the faint heat from his fingers even with her clothes in between.

"Wife, I... I’m sorry I pushed you too hard last night."

"...!!"

This guy really...!!!!

Her cheeks flushed in shame as she instinctively slapped his hand away on her shoulder.

"I’m going home!!!" She quickly grabbed her phone and stomped towards the door. She turned behind her to throw another glare whilst he only grinned before she finally left his office.

Lu Chen followed his wife’s figure disappearing behind the door before wiping off the grinning look on his face. It was quickly replaced by a somber expression recalling Xiu Mei’s question to him.

He sat behind his table staring at the email he received two nights ago.

How can he answer her?

How can he tell her that his eldest brother was shot and he almost couldn’t keep his life. How can he explain to her that her eldest brother personally investigated her kidnapping and he was almost killed when they tried to follow Wan Wan in the underground city.

He felt terrible keeping this secret from her, but her family was very against it. Her current situation wasn’t very suitable for her to know and maybe, another shock might endanger her mental health even more.

He noticed that even though she could now speak freely to him, she still couldn’t with their son. He thought that she was already fine but it seems like she was slowly getting better but completely recovering was still far from the goal.

Xiu Min is still in a coma after his operation so he had to go with Xiu Mo Ruo when he decided to go to the underground city. It was safer if he was there since who knows how that place works better than him?

Wan Wan’s trace disappeared and he sent his men to trace her back.

He could only return to her last night just so she wouldn’t notice anything wrong and he planned to distract her from trying to contact her family soon. Though it seems he really didn’t need to since that....last night, happened. Hm.

But how long could he really distract her?

Since she’s going home... their pet lion and tiger should complete the task he assigned to them, right?

And just as Lu Chen planned, Xiu Mei stared in disbelief as soon as she entered their bedroom. She stared in shock seeing the lion and tiger resting inside their bedroom. King was gnawing with a toy bone on the floor while Lucia has stolen Lu Chen’s space on the bed, and slept on it as if she owned the whole room.
