Edge of the Apocalypse

Chapter 336: Secret

Chapter 336: Secret

Hank knew that his opponent was about to retaliate when he saw the smear of red on the blade of the heavy saber. However, when Qianjun bounced up and drew a trajectory of Qi Hong in the night, Hank was shocked to find that the other party's counterattack had arrived so fast that he was not even ready for it. The blade of the heavy saber was already expanding in his eyes.

Hank let out a beast-like roar, using the bottom of the tank itself. He pushed all of his Origin Energy into the double sickles, and the sickle emitted a faint azure flame as it staggered towards the heavy saber.

Dang!

With a loud sound, the origin flames on Hank's sickles were immediately shattered, and the sickle's body distorted. He was shocked, but he saw the heavy saber float up, the blade flashing a dark red, fiercely provoking from below.

Hank couldn't hold the sickles any longer and swung the sickle out of his hand. He cursed and turned to run. With such an opponent, how could he have the mood and fighting spirit to fight again?

Hank instinctively circulated his Origin Energy to form a protective shield around his body. However, as soon as the shield was formed, Hank's entire body trembled violently, and his ears were filled with the sound of the shield shattering and origin energy surging. Suddenly, he saw a swarthy blade emerge from his chest. The red light on the blade was as thick as blood.

In the next moment, Hank knew that it was really blood, and that it was hot blood from the knife in his body. Qianjun Blade's body was rough, and it pierced through his chest. Don't expect the wound to be as smooth as a mirror. Hank's chest was stabbed with an irregular wound by the rough blade, and fresh blood flowed out from the blade. The bald man only felt that his strength dissipated with the flow of blood. He took another two steps forward and finally his body softened. He fell to the ground and died.

Alan pulled out a heavy knife from the corpse. Hank's strength was too weak, and he didn't even have the qualifications to warm him up.

Once Hank died, the group of thieves lost their fighting spirit. After killing a few more people for the Mountain King's troops and Wilick's group, the remaining bandits saw that something was wrong and fled to the wilderness. At the end of the battle, the bandits left twenty to thirty corpses behind, and the rest fled back to the wilderness. After searching through them for a while, Allen had a bag of gold coins, more than ten intact firearms, some ammunition, and ten warhorses in his hand.

Together, these items could be considered a small fortune. Especially the ten warhorses, their value far surpassed the other harvests.

On Allen's side, several of their core combat members were unharmed, while the soldiers of the Mountain King's army were mostly slightly injured. After this battle, the Baymonds finally understood the benefits of armor. Those bandits who did not activate their Origin Energy were unable to break through the steel light armor with their swords. Otherwise, Tima and the others wouldn't have suffered some minor injuries.

This was the Mountain King's first battle, even though his opponents were undisciplined thieves. However, during the battle, the Mountain King displayed the results of their training and gained valuable combat experience. These people had their own gains, especially Tima. This young Baimon had an excited expression, as if he wished for more bandits to train him.

The next morning, the caravan left at dawn. As for the corpses of the bandits, they stayed where they were. Before long, the corpses would become food for the wild beasts and turn into fertilizer for this wasteland.

Just as the sun was about to sink into the western horizon, several cloaked men disappeared from Matto's sight after paying the duty to enter the city. Matto frowned. Those people were adventurers. It had been two to three months since Baron York had offered a bounty to the adventurers in order to obtain the so-called treasures of the Ash Mountains, and Sur City had been visited by adventurers.

However, recently, their numbers had increased again, and they had flooded into Sur City every few days for some unknown reason. Although most of the adventurers who entered the city behaved in a peaceful manner, Matto doubted that the city guards would be able to suppress these wandering fellows with such a small number. Once they stir up trouble, I'm afraid that the city guards will not be taken seriously by them.

Adventurers are mostly restless people, otherwise they wouldn't be in such a special industry. Just because they're safe now doesn't mean they'll always be safe. Matto decided to go to the City Lord's Mansion to borrow Allen's squad with the Flame Fighting Rifle. Only with that strong squad on guard would Matto feel a little more at ease.

Leaving some matters to the adjutant, Matto did not go home to eat and went straight to the City Lord's Mansion. As they passed by the bar, the two men scuffled out of the door and a few adventurers followed them. Not only did he not try to persuade them to fight, he also followed suit. When they saw the uniform on Matto's body, they restrained themselves slightly. The two men who were fighting also quickly ended up leaving the bar.

Matto shook his head. There would only be more and more things like this.

Edward was still working in his office when he arrived at the City Lord's Mansion. Baron York's vault was almost completely used up by him. All the valuable collections were sold, and the money was used for the construction of the city defense and the reconstruction of the supporting facilities of the city. Right now, there were scaffolding erected everywhere in Sur City. All the men with some strength had been recruited as workers, but no one objected.

After all, the ultimate beneficiaries of these facilities were the people of the city. Compared to Ethan's previous practice, Edward of the City Lord's Treasury was more respected. Man is a strange creature. They can remember or forget. After Edward implemented the policy of benefiting the people, not many people remembered that the young city lord came from another country. Along with him, he forgot about the people who were related to him. For example, Ellen, they weren't from Sur City at all.

Sensation always blurs.

Matto was touched to see Edward still working during dinner time. The previous two City Lords would never miss out on meals and breaks, especially Baron York. He cares more about whether his vault is full than about which city's facilities need to be renovated or upgraded.

"Matto?" Edward raised his head and was surprised to see the captain of the city guard. "What, are you looking for me for dinner?"

"Excuse me, my lord." Matto lowered his head and said.

"Come in. Why did you come to see me at this time?" Edward signed his name on a document, put down the ink-stained quill, and looked at the middle-aged man in front of him.

"It's the adventurers, my lord," Matto said straightforwardly. "They seem to have appeared a little more recently, and I have a feeling that something will happen."

"Adventurer?" Edward had heard a little about this, but he didn't care much about it.

The world is vast and many places are deserted. Those mountains, forests, or crypts were not places that ordinary people could reach. Perhaps there was a treasure that he had spent all his life hiding there, or perhaps there was some powerful and dangerous beast sleeping there. Everything was unknown, and the adventurers were the people who specialized in searching for these unknown answers. They went everywhere.

Some became rich overnight, and many more died silently, burying their bones in an unknown valley or a dangerous cave.

However, Sur City was not a good place to explore, and it did not have enough wealth to attract the attention of adventurers. The sudden influx of adventurers into the city was an unusual sign. No wonder Matto was worried. Edward nodded. "Are you worried that the city guards aren't strong enough?"

"Yes, my lord. Whether it's knights or magicians, those fellows are on average at the seventh or eighth level. My subordinates don't have so many experts to deal with these people." Matto said truthfully.

"I see. I will transfer the Blazing Battle Soldiers to you tonight. For the time being, I'll leave them to you."

Matto said joyfully, "Thank you for your trust, my lord."

Edward smiled and said, "Then, do you know what's going on? About the adventurers?"

"This " Matto smiled bitterly. "They seem to have some kind of purpose, but I don't know what exactly they are. Do you need me to inquire about them?"

"There's no need for that. Speaking of information, I have a more suitable candidate." Edward stood up and said, "Should we have dinner together?"

"No, I still have my wife and children waiting for me at home." Matto said.

"Then I won't keep you."

After sending Matto away, Edward called for a soldier. Allen had left these Bescot guards behind to help the city guards strengthen their defenses when they needed them. Edward told him to gather the other soldiers and report to the city guards' barracks tonight.

After the soldiers received their orders, Edward sent for Belmond.

After a simple dinner, Belmond came to his office and Edward said, "I need you to get some information for me."

Belmond smiled and said, "If I remember correctly, it was Young Master Allen who hired me, right?"

"Indeed, you remember correctly. But now, I suggest that we don't make too much of a fuss about this. Everything we do is for the sake of our Guild Leader." Edward said as he looked the man in the eye.

After a moment of concentration, Belmond shrugged his shoulders and said, "That's true. Well, I've been so busy these past few days that I can do something. Then, if you want any information, you won't be interested in any noble lady, will you?"

"I'm not so bored. It's those adventurers." Edward said, "There are too many of them. They seem to have come for the same purpose. I wonder what they are going to do?"

"That sounds interesting. I'll let you know if I have any news."

Belmond walked out of the Lord's Mansion. If he felt anything, he turned around and raised his head. Edward was looking at him through the window of the office. The young Maritan nodded and disappeared from the window. Belmond narrowed his eyes and said softly, "I always feel like there are a lot of secrets hidden here, this guy."

He shrugged his shoulders and said, "What does it have to do with me?" Then, he put his hands in his pockets and gradually blended into the night of the street.
