Chapter 182 Mana Fever
Lei Zhen was in a daze when the church's name was brought up once again.
It was not his first time being hinted at with a clue related to the church plotting something behind the scene.
Hence, it didn't really astonish him much when the church was revealed to have something to do with the high elves being invaded.
'Church is always being labeled as a vile thing despite its initial goal being to help people.' Lei Zhen sighed softly. Hearing such a cliche plot of the church secretly doing many wicked things wasn't anything new.
It was just like the current world where he lived in.
The government always portrayed themselves as good people in the public, but who knows how many wicked things they were hiding from the public.
"Anyway, so what is this Church's weapon you spoke of?" Lei Zhen asked.
"The Church's weapon is a powerful tool wielded by only someone qualified to do so. And most of the time, that someone is an apostle to the goddess. As for the name of the weapon itself, we simply identify it as an Apostle Lance." Candice explained.
"I see… with the apostle's power, then it wouldn't seem unlikely for them to penetrate the barrier of a Shrine Priestess."
"Indeed, but this grudge would definitely be remembered. My family and other members have either been killed or captured to be violated by disgusting humans."
"Cough! Cough! Cough!"
ραпdα nᴏνa| сom Subconsciously, Lei Zhen coughed repeatedly at the mention of disgusting humans. Despite not being part of the scheme, he would still be identified as one since Candice was now his slave.
"Apostle Lance huh. I'll try to figure it out later on." Lei Zhen gave his words.
Either way, he doesn't have a good relationship with the church anyway given that he had completed the secret achievement of Arachne's Dungeon.
Not to mention, Priest Tauren kind of irked Lei Zhen slightly with his tone of speech.
Who the hell was Priest Tauren to look at him with contempt?
Just when Lei Zhen wanted to ask why the humans would choose to invade them with the backing of the church as well, Candice's expression suddenly changed.
"This is bad, the wind just told me that there's a powerful wave incoming," Candice warned.
"Powerful wave?" Lei Zhen raised an eyebrow in confusion. He glanced at the window and only saw perfectly clear weather.
Why would there suddenly be a powerful wave?
"What kind of powerful wave is the wind telling you?" He asked.
"It's not a natural wave, Master. The wind is telling me that some sea monsters are having a brawl and have crossed the boundary lines already."
"Crossed the boundary lines?" Lei Zhen stood up and walked out of the Control Room.
Boundary lines were a type of magical lines set up by magicians to prevent sea monsters from invading the path of the ships.
Normally, the sea passage is safe for ships to travel without many bodyguards because the chances of sea monsters attacking them were minimal.
However, if sea monsters were capable of ignoring the boundary lines, then it meant only one thing. The sea monsters are stronger than the boundary lines cast by magicians.
Without hesitation, Lei Zhen rushed toward the steering room to warn Howard of the matter.
"Howard, Candice just detected that some powerful sea monsters had crossed the boundary lines from the voices of the wind." Lei Zhen said in a somewhat urgent tone.
"What's our current passage and can we hasten the speed to avoid a confrontation?" He then asked.
Meanwhile, Howard quickly glanced at the radar scanner and his expression turned dreadful.
"I'm afraid we're too late, Chancellor. The radar just detected four sea monsters coming toward the ship rapidly." Howard replied, pointing at the radar scanner that indicated 4 red dots.
Despite Howard saying it was too late, he still tried his best to increase the knot speed and steer the ship away from confronting the sea monsters.
Though it would be a futile effort since the 4 red dots on the scanner were still approaching their ship rapidly.
And just when Lei Zhen thought his luck was really garbage, a presence appeared from behind.
A powerful aura emitted in the steering room and Lei Zhen turned around, only to see Candice's entire body glowing a golden light.
The golden light was so blinding that it illuminated the room and Lei Zhen was forced to close his eyes.
At the same time though, Candice began chanting some ancient language and the ship's knot speed seemed to have risen rapidly.
From the initial 15 knots, the ship's knot value started to go above the meter and was closing in at 60 knots.
Everything happened so fast that by the time the light dissipated, Lei Zhen noticed they had already pulled quite a distance from the 4 red dots in the radar scanner.
"How the hell did that just happen?" Lei Zhen muttered in disbelief. He noticed the knots' reading speed seemed to have been broken by the change of speed that the ship was capable of handling.
As for Howard, his eyes widened in surprise at the ability that Candice had just done. "What a gem in the rough."
However, Howard quickly left the steering room and went toward the deck, and enquired about if any crewmen were injured by the sudden increase in speed.
The steering room was now left with Lei Zhen and Candice.
Candice held an exhausted look as she plopped to the floor, unable to muster her strength.
Seeing her in such an exhaustive state, Lei Zhen decided to leave the questioning for later and held her up.
Carrying her in his arms, Lei Zhen brought her to a resting room and laid her in the bed.
"Are you alright?" He then asked in concern.
"I-I'm fine… just having a mana fever currently," Candice said weakly, her forehead sweating quite a bit.
'Mana fever?' Lei Zhen exclaimed inwardly and hurriedly opened his character status.
And under one of the tabs, he found Candice's name and clicked on it, only to be astonished by the negative value in her Mana Point.
