The Black Necromancer

Chapter 548: Confrontation

With a flash of light, the Nexus Being appeared in a barren stretch of the Void devoid of any form of matter. There were no worlds, stars, or asteroids in that stretch of the Void. Just plain darkness.

"Old friend, I expected you to waste a bit more time panicking." Izeal's voice, dripping with mockery, rang out and reached the Nexus Being.

"It was my mistake to underestimate you, Izeal. But we have come to this point. There is no room for regrets." The Nexus Being spoke in an even tone.

"Hehe. You were a fool, failing to keep the being under you in check. Now, your mistakes have come back to bite you in the form of myself. Do not worry, when I am done, you can rest assured that I will not make those same mistakes." Izeal bared his teeth and began to stir the massive amounts of Divine Power that he could tap into from the surroundings.

An air of seriousness rose around the Nexus Being as it examined Izeal. The Paragon of Undeath's aura was powerful, but a tad bit unstable. He had yet to fully digest his gains from defeating and assimilating Leon. This meant that he was not yet truly on the Nexus Being's level yet, simply straddling the border.

This also meant that there was a chance that Leon was still struggling within the Paragon of Undeath!

'There is still a chance. The 'prophecy' might still come to pass.' The Nexus Being thought.

As both sides descended into silence, Izeal realized that he could not rile up the Nexus Being. He had hoped to get the Nexus Being riled up so that it could make mistakes that he could exploit, but an ageless being like the Nexus Being was not so easily moved.

The Nexus Being, tired of listening to Izeal, finally made the first move. Copious amounts of power poured into its open palm and condensed to form a blazing spear of energy. Scores more began to form around, lighting up the darkness of the Void.

Izeal also drew upon the energy around him, but he found it to be difficult; as though the universe itself was rejecting his advances.

"Ugh." He grunted and expanded his Domain, imposing his Will onto the surrounding space and wrestling control for power against the Nexus Being. However, it was not easy. It was like a bird diving into water and trying to beat a shark in the shark's playing ground. It was more than an uphill battle!

However, Izeal's power was not something that could easily be suppressed. He had anticipated this day for a very long time, preparing for thousands of years for the day he would finally face off against the Nexus Being.

He had anticipated many things, planning and scheming, while keeping his true power under wraps. While he was not at his best, his explosive power should be enough to match that of the Nexus Being!

Dark whips and tentacles covered in thorns materialized around Izeal, striking out at the Nexus Being who waved to create a deflecting shield. Blazing red spears rained down on Izeal's position, creating a sharp tearing sound in the empty and soundless Void as space tore and ripped apart under the attacks of the two God Kings.

Those two moves were just the opening. Hundreds of other attacks were exchanged ever second, and the space where those attacks passed crumbled away, not even trying to stitch back together because of the remnant effects of the powers that fueled those attacks.

Two bright lights resembling stars streaked through the dark Void, a brilliant exchange of attacks trailing in their wake and illuminating their surroundings. It looked beautiful, but it was deadly beyond belief. Even a dozen True Gods would have fallen a dozen times over without standing a chance to injure any one of the combatants.

Izeal's teeth ground together as he tried to pin down the Nexus Being, but the master of this Universe was too elusive. The universe actively helped him, allowing him to seamlessly create substitutes, pop up attacks within Izeal's Domain, or break apart Izeal's attacks before they were able to reach the Nexus Being.

On the other hand, his Domain kept getting pummeled by the attacks thrown by the Nexus Being. It looked like a stalemate, as none of them had gotten injured just yet, but it was clear that he was being suppressed by the Nexus Being.

'How?! How is he able to do this?! He should not be this strong!' Izeal roared within his mind as he angrily unleashed attack after attack.

At several intervals, some being approached the battle, only to immediately turn away when they discovered the source of the commotion. Numerous Major Gods and even True Gods hastily distanced themselves from the fight upon realizing that the infamous Paragon of Undeath was having a confrontation with the Nexus Being who ruled them all.

None of them knew what gave Izeal the confidence that he could make a difference, but they could clearly see that the power that he displayed was far above that of a normal True God.

Some of them suspected that he might have finally achieved what he sought by spreading fragments of his imperfect self across countless worlds, and so, he finally had the chance to challenge the Nexus Being. Other thought that his imperfections had finally driven him mad enough to challenge the Nexus Being.

But no matter what they thought was the reason for this fight, most of them suspected that by the end of this fight, the Paragon of Undeath would be no more.

As the two combatants streaked across the cosmos, an interaction no one would have ever expected was occurring on Datar.

Elena stood, her eyes wide, beside Mica, her Dragon companion, as they listened to the voice that boomed within their heads. They had been waiting within the palace of the Cromwell Empire for news of the battle between Izeal and the True Gods that had rallied to protect Datar when the voice of the Nexus Being they had only heard about called out to them.
