The Blue Eyes

Chapter 85 - THE BEGINNING OF THE WAR

A 50-inch smart television was broadcasting the 24 real-time videos from 24 surveillance cameras scattered throughout the city. Kris was desperate to break into Selena's data so they could monitor the progress of the werewolf monster attacks in real-time.

Two men were sitting on the sofa with tense expressions. They no longer hugged each other casually like yesterday. The atmosphere of the city was really chaotic today. Yesterday, the number of werewolf monsters of the new species was reported to be at 85, but the Intelligence Agency reported that their number was over 100 today.

That number was still added by the werewolves of the previous generation, whose number was close to 70. The situation was getting worse because the previous generation of werewolves had evolved again to get stronger.

Seventeen years ago, they only fought with their strong physique and the addition of powerful artificial weapons. It was different from the current situation when they were able to produce flames with their hands, causing explosions and fires in several areas.

"Is it really my father's work, Kris?" Kevin, who froze as he stared blankly at the videos, finally asked weakly.

Kris looked at Kevin with a look of regret. "Looks like it is. Professor Joseph has always given new formulas to the werewolves to increase their strength, and it seems that this time he gave the strongest formula for them."

Werewolves originally had fire elements, but before today, that element was only existed inside their bodies and couldn't be used to create flames. Previously, they could only produce heat and transfer it through contact, like how Kris used his power to save Kevin some time ago.

Kevin's eyes were still staring at the digital screen in front of him. His gaze was filled with sorrow as he saw how chaotic the city he had lived in for 27 years. The disaster of seventeen years ago repeated itself, and his heart was torn apart to see it all.

Not many civilian images were caught on surveillance cameras as most of them obeyed government warnings to stay home and hide. But still, there were a handful of humans who were reluctant to obey and were seen hanging around out there. They ended up becoming werewolves after being bitten by the monsters that had previously transformed.

The number of casualties also increased from the military side. Even though they were equipped with sophisticated weapons, Selena's order to capture them all alive had to be paid with their lives.

When the soldiers tried to lead the monsters to a safe quarantine, they were attacked with the power of fire and artificial weapons by the previous generation of werewolves. In addition to the number of people who died in the attacks, many soldiers had turned into werewolves as well.

"Kris, can you call my mom and ask her to change the instructions? If the army doesn't attack actively and only tries to catch them all alive, more casualties will fall. My mother should order the shoulder to attack the werewolves."

Kris smiled a little at the word 'my mom' that came out of Kevin's thin lips. The caramel-haired man was right. Kevin had indeed begun to accept Selena as his mother and pardoned all of her mistakes.

"The professor didn't take her cellphone when she left. She hasn't even notified me today. I only know from one of her men that she went to the island with Blue."

Kris's answer made Kevin quickly turn to the tan-skinned man. "Blue?" With a look of disbelief, he asked the other man. "Why did she bring Blue there? Didn't she say she wanted to finish everything alone?"

Kris sighed before answering, "Blue insisted she wanted to come along, and it looks like having Blue there will be of help to the Professor. Blue has tremendous physical strength, Kev. And the island might only have your father and my father, so it shouldn't be difficult for Blue to beat them both."

Kevin didn't seem to want to argue more and fell silent for a moment.

He was frowning when he asked, "Kris, why did my mom insist on catching all the werewolves alive and didn't let the army attack them with their weapons?"

The question hit Kris quite hard. He thought Kevin wouldn't notice Selena's orders that seemed off.

"The Professor wanted to save them. The new species of werewolves are innocent. They don't even know what they're doing, so we better save them all instead of killing them."

The scientist scowled at Kris's explanation. "But, that's too risky to quarantine them all when their numbers are over 100 now. What if they run away in the future and cause more trouble? We need to find the antidote first so we can save them all."

Kris looked so troubled after he heard Kevin's words. He seemed confused as to how should he explain the real situation to the raven-haired man. But, he suddenly looked like he just remembered something, and he quickly looked up at the clock on the wall.

"The time has come. I have to go now," he said as he got up from his seat.

It looked like he just got help from the time so he could evade Kevin's curiosity. He could avoid Kevin without making any excuse or lying because he really had to go now.

The young scientist was shocked to see his lover's sudden action, and he stood up quickly. "What do you mean? Where are you going?"

Kris looked at Kevin sternly as his hands reached out to grab Kevin's shoulders.

"During the past week, Professor Selena has been trying to create weapons to subdue the new species of werewolf monsters without hurting them, but it takes a lot more time and effort to mass-produce those weapons. That's why the Professor asked for help from Orka Research Center to mass-produce those weapons. They promise that today the production is complete, and the weapons can be used right away. I will go to take those weapons, so the army can use them soon."

Kevin was stunned to hear Kris's explanation. The old professor was again doing something he didn't know, and even the research center where he worked was involved without him knowing. If he knew about that, he should have been able to help the scientists at his workplace to complete the weapons project, but his mother chose not to involve him.

Didn't Kevin look like a clueless idiot now? Was he just an extra in this drama, so he didn't deserve to know how the plot of this drama goes? From start to finish, he was completely clueless. Maybe he better became a spectator than a useless extra.

"Are you going alone, Kris? I better come with you. Isn't your strength incomparable to the werewolves of the previous generation? They will beat you if you go alone. If you bring me with you, I'll help you to beat them with my power."

It seemed that Kevin was trying to shake off his disappointment and chose to focus on Kris's safety. He wanted to do something so he wouldn't feel useless even more.

Kris smiled at the worried look on Kevin's handsome face. He then raised his hand to ruffle the scientist's black locks before he said, "I'm not that weak Kev. You have to believe me. Now you better wait here, and I'll be right back before you start missing me."

Damn it! The taller man even had time to tease him at a time like this. The annoyed scientist then punched his lover in the stomach even though he didn't really use his strength when he did it.

"I won't miss you," he renounced his lover's words, but his face looked a little flushed with embarrassment.

Kris no longer argued with Kevin. He just smiled, then brought his face closer to Kevin's face. He gently pressed his lips on Kevin's forehead. It was like his way of saying goodbye to the scientist non-verbally.

The lips grazed the forehead for a few seconds before the owner leaned back and stared at his lover deeply. Kris smiled at his lover before he turned around and walked towards the front door. He was about to open the door, but suddenly he stopped and turned to Kevin, who was still standing beside the sofa.

"Kev, after this war is over, what do you want to do?"

The one who was asked the question frowned in confusion. Even so, the young scientist still replied, "I want to build a permanent house by the beach. A house with a lot of large windows so that I can enjoy the view of the beach. I will bring my goldfish to live there, and I also want to live there with you and my mother."

Kris's chest rippled violently at Kevin's answer, which sounded very sincere and earnest. He didn't expect that Kevin already had such plans for his future. Kevin was a workaholic, but it turned out that after the war ended, he wanted to live away from the crowd with the people he loved. Kevin must be tired of all the drama.

Kris beamed lovingly at Kevin and then said, "I will help you to fulfill your wish. This war will end quickly. I promise."

Without waiting for a response, Kris continued his steps to leave Kevin's residence.

The scientist stared at his lover's departure as he whispered, "I hope you can keep your promise, Kiss."
