Vampire Nightlife

Chapter 145 City Of Nyx (4)

Theodore stared at the two Vardokens, ignoring everything else in that moment. Lost in the own swirling rage of hatred that pounded in his chest.

"Too much?" Theodore scoffed. "Isn't it too little, rather? You two have managed to live your entire lives under the pretense of not being who you guys truly are, escaping from the sins of your family without repercussion–"

"Enough."

Lukas thought that those words came from someone else, but then he realized that Theodore and the rest of the group were looking at him. He was the one who said it.

"We're not going to get anywhere like this." Lukas sighed and crossed his arms. "If you're so insistent on not hiding who they are and escaping from their birthright, then let's just register them as who they really are. Or is there another problem that you're not revealing?"

Theodore narrowed his eyes on Lukas. "... the consequences of everything shall be on your shoulders. We're here for one reason alone, it's to save Lily and I do not wish to have anything prevent that."

"And we're not going to have that problem, right?" Lukas glanced at Stacy.

"Of course not." Stacy frowned. "... despite everything, I intend to help someone who is in danger."

"Swear that to me, and then I won't bother in stopping you two here." Theodore finally said, almost as if accepting things.

"I swear it." Stacy immediately said.

Lukas wished that things didn't have to end up this way for it to be resolved. And yet there was something almost strange in the way that Theodore almost instantly gave up his attempts of hiding the Vardokens.

Was it actually better off for them to hide?

There were risks involved, weren't there?

Alexei's look at him was enough evidence of that, but unfortunately, the open conversation that Lukas imagined Theodore and the Vardokens could have was entirely one-sided.

Even now, Stacy had to agree with his demand to be allowed to do anything.

"His hatred truly is outstanding. What have these Vardokens done to warrant such anger? Is it truly them that he is upset with? One usually does not lash out like this without dissatisfaction within himself."

Drusilla's voice lingered in Lukas' head.

Lukas hesitated and didn't answer the ancient Vampire at once.

She had spoken warmly of the Vardokens so it was apparent to him that there truly was a time where they weren't hated.

'There's something wrong with Theodore, maybe he's just spiteful and as dark as the aura he has, but we have other important matters to take care of.'

"As for you," Lukas' gaze flickered to 'Junia' who remained frozen. "Um… a pleasure to meet you? It's a shame that we met under these circumstances."

Junia Atticus looked at the charming and sheepish grin on Lukas' face and wavered slightly. There was a certain demeanor about him that made the tension disappear.

"A-ah, not a problem. Who are you?"

"My name's Lukas." he introduced. "I'm Chaerin's boyfriend."

"Oh." Junia nodded, then looked at Chaerin in surprise. "Boyfriend?"

Chaerin's gaze was still hostile, even to her supposed cousin, but she nodded. "Yes. If necessary, we can also register him as my legal partner to speed up the process."

Lukas' eyes widened.

If there was anyone who could have dropped a sudden bomb almost as big as this–it was Lily back then who wanted to introduce him to her family.

Back then, Lukas was hesitant about meeting them and as for now…

"I think we made a decision not to lie about anything." Stacy found herself speaking up. Luckily, her expression was more or less tense, but the message was still the same.

"Heh, unless we all register ourselves as some kind of throuple or something." Alexei joked to ease the tension. "But really–we've made a decision now, yeah? Hey you, girl, let's just get things over. We have places to be."

It was at this point that the entire group finally made their way to the building to address their entry passes. Junia led them to a small cubicle where she sat in front of her computer and looked at them with a nervous smile.

"Which one of you would like to go first?" Junia asked.

"Here's my credentials." Theodore slid down his card forward and the Vampire checked.

After registering him into the system, Junia became more relaxed and smiled lightly.

"I'll put you in then next, Chaerin. A Family Visitor's Pass allows you more freedom to stay here far longer than other passes along with additional benefits."

"We're not going to stay long." Chaerin said, but Lukas massaged her shoulders.

Lukas really didn't understand what was so bad with her relatives, because Junia didn't seem that terrible–but for now, he took over.

"And I'm Lukas."

"Last name?" Junia looked up from her monitor.

"I don't have one." Lukas chuckled and scratched the back of his head. "Uh, I came from an orphanage in Lux–never knew my parents. No records either. Do you think we could make this quick and not undergo any tests?"

"Well…" Junia hesitated.

A part of her just wanted to say yes to what Lukas said, but there were still certain protocols that needed to be done. And yet there was something about Lukas that made her just wish to take an easy route–even register him as Chaerin's partner to finish things quickly.

"How about you take our identities first then?" Alexei said. "We have our last names perfectly known."

"Oh, that should be easier." Junia blinked, her earlier urges vanishing, and soon opted to look at the two siblings first. "Your names please?"

"Alexei and Anastasia dis Vardoken."

"Okay, let me get it down–huh." Junia registered it into the system, but then looked at the two siblings again. "Um, pardon me… did I mishear it?"

Lukas glanced at Theodore's reaction, but he had a blank expression on his face.

Alexei and Stacy were a little surprised at the lack of hostility, but repeated their names.

Junia's eyes widened. "That means..."
